  1. Update: the card arrived in completely inadequate packaging and bricked. RIP in piece
  2. Well, I won the auction. Having said that, the card might not even be working, I need to test it when it arrives. Thanks for the advice everyone! I'll update this thread with whatever happens.
  3. I currently have an XFX HD7950 card in my pc from 6 or 7 years ago. I've found another on ebay for around £25. Is there anything stopping me from running them in crossfire in this day and age? (mostly just for the hell of it) Like have amd or microsoft stopped supporting it? My motherboard has a crossfire logo on it and enough pcie slots with the right spacing. The card is sold as untested so if I do win the auction I'll test it by itself first as if this goes to plan I'll need a beefier power supply with more 8-pin power, the current one is only a basic corsair 450w. I have a AMD FX8320 cpu in a gigabyte motherboard if that helps. Thanks!
  4. So my brother would like a PC, he's only had a PS4 and slow laptop until now. He's put together a parts list and asked for my thoughts except I'm not up to date on the latest hardware, I built my PC nearly 5 years ago. The parts list is linked below, the budget is as close to £500 as possible not including the OS (will be windows 10). He'll be using it for web browsing and gaming at 1080p. So the 250GB SSD will do for now and I foresee a hard drive being added in later. I've had a look and I know the case for example would be a nice to have upgrade however I think it'll be grand for now. He has recently bought a new monitor, a 27" acer 1080p unit, and it has freesync. I'm wondering would the AMD/Radeon equivalent to the 1050Ti that's currently in the build be able to leverage the monitors freesync and if so would it benefit the gaming experience? Also please let me know if there's anything mistakes I've missed in the parts list like incompatibilities or overspends, or recommended part swaps because I've been out of the loop for a while. 5. Something I noticed straight away was the effect the textured glass has in the original image, if you look at each "strip" of the image the piece of the person you can see has been squished horizontally a little, this is especially apparent looking at the eyes. In your image it looks like you've duplicated the same section outwards a couple of times, whereas if you look at each consecutive strip in the original, the part of the face that's visible in each one is different and there is also overlap between them. Look at how the nose is visible in the center ones and as you move outward, the visible amount of nose decreases. You'll probably need to spend a decent amount of time selection how much of the original image is visible in each strip, at least it's a good way to get better at photoshop. Hope this helps.
  6. Just downloaded and configured, does exactly what I need. Plus theres a contribute file copying option in case I didn't mean to delete something from the usb drive. And it's from microsoft! Thanks, don't think I'd have found this on my own
  7. I had also thought this might be something that could be accomplished using a batch file with windows command prompt but that's about the extent of my knowledge, I wouldn't know how to actually write any of that code.
  8. So I have a 64GB usb drive that I have all my files on for school, others use dropbox or office online but I'd much rather have my stuff at hand and offline. Every day when I'm finished working on whatever school project is current I copy everything that's on the usb drive to a folder on my computer to back it all up as I know many people who've lost their usb drives and subsequently a lot of work, what I'm wondering is if there exists a software tool or a script that say at the click of a button or two will copy and paste the contents of the usb drive in a defined folder on my hard drive. I always just replace existing files when I paste everything, call me lazy but selecting and copying, then navigating to a different folder and pasting is starting to get monotonous, and also... There's just got to be a better way!
  9. Kova, so I can remap all those button to hotkeys for premiere and be like Taran
  10. a samsung 840 evo 250GB and, not pc parts but, a pair of sennheiser HD518
  11. nice colour matching build, and dat name
  12. I laughed at the part in that video when the wolf pack in ghosts was shown, cause I think most players were probably busy trying not to be killed by them to notice the amazing futuristic fur simulations.
  13. The worst part for me is that I think my parents, after watching this would completely believe this guy, like I could literally show my mum watch dogs gameplay footage and all she would care about is its age rating.
  14. It doesn't live under there permanently (I probably should have been more clear about that) it's just so that I can move it out of the way when I need to work on something on the desk in front of me. although I can hit a few keys if needed e.g. play/ pause, I just lift it out when needed.
  15. So ever since I built my pc and got a new monitor I've had the monitor sitting on the PSU box. It was on hand at the time and it's just the right height. However it takes up some of my limited desk space and is kind of an eye sore so I finally decided it was time to make one. My goals: - build it from scrap wood aka for free - make it a shelf that my keyboard can fit under This is what my desk looked like with the PSU box the first step was to measure the box and the wood I'm using and create plans from there, this is what came out of that: The next step was to cut the pieces to size, now I don't know how many of you have tried to make accurate cuts with a crappy circular saw but all I have so say is that I can't wait for the day I can afford a table saw! I used a straight piece of wood as a guide for the saw, it works but it just means having to make extra measurements and more thinking when laying out the cuts, it just a pain is what im saying. The guide piece clamped to the work: My intricate clamping system, as I said I can't wait for a table saw gota mask of the plywood cuts to avoid splitting I didn't take any pictures of this but when cutting the pieces with the saw I purposely cut them slightly oversize so i could go back and finesse the pieces with an electric plane, this fine control of the material removed came in handy when cutting the side pieces which had to both be the same size. Next comes joining the pieces together, I Thought about using screws but gave up hunting through the garage for the right ones and just found some small nails. I also threw a bit of glue in there as well. I scored the wood a bit on the top piece because I was gluing to cross grain so as to give the glue something to really grip to. After fixing the whole thing together I hit it with some sandpaper to knock the edges and corners down (80 and 120 grit i think). Here it is now gracing my battlestation. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. I was considering painting it but now that it's in there I just don't know if I could be bothered. Did I reach my goals? - build it from scrap wood aka for free Check - make it a shelf that my keyboard can fit under She fits like a dream!
