  1. Bitfenix seems to be the king of slim ATX cases. A quick bit of research has led me to finding that the Shadow, Neos and Outlaw are 190mm, 185mm and 180mm wide respectively. Can't find anything narrower than 190mm in other brands for full ATX cases.
  2. Why wouldn't it be? I mean I doubt the R9 370 will be a 290X beater, but each relative 'replacement' should be better than the last. Otherwise AMD would be shooting themselves in the foot, especially given the simultaneous gains in performance and efficiency Nvidia have made with their latest GTX 900-series cards.
  3. None of the ones you linked - this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125684&cm_re=gigabyte_g1_970-_-14-125-684-_-Product The G1 Gaming by Gigabyte. Runs coolest, looks coolest in my opinion from the new cards, has one of the best binning rates and best clockspeeds and overclocks as far as I am aware. Also comes with a super-sexy backplate (unlike the other Gigabyte version in your links) which also is functional (helps prevent sagging - we're not all superficial you know). However it is one of the longest cards out there - sadly I won't be able to get one if I upgrade to a 970 because it won't fit in my 250D :'(
  4. I just meant he has the 5K. I know they've been 1440p, I had one.
  5. Work. I have a MacBook Pro that I use for schoolwork, and it's great for that. Before getting my gaming pc my home pc was an iMac (2011 version) and I hardly used OSX because I wasn't doing anything OSX specific but did to some Windows specific stuff like gaming (parents insisted on the iMac, I'll leave it at that). I can't imagine Linus "using" a Mac at home but the office would be a great experiment.
  6. Should be fine, I don't know how good it is for overclocking but I don't see anything wrong with it. My brother's rig has the H97 gaming version of it.
  7. A 24" or 27" 1080p IPS monitor. LG make good ones at reasonable prices. Pick one you fancy and ask back here if it's a good choice (too busy to look myself right now).
  8. Having posted my humorous answer, I would say to a child: "An internet cookie is something that a website stores on your computer to let it remember who you are and any information about you that is useful for that website, so it's like swiping an ID card when you enter the website. This means that you can be logged in to a website automatically, if the website is a flash game it can remember where you were up to in the game, and stuff like that." Of course the description varies a bit depending on how old the child is. Like I think most 6-10 year olds could probably understand that if they're mildly computer literate, but if you're talking about a 3-5 year old they may not... IDK.
  9. Personally PS3 because I prefer the Playstation controller and I love the Ratchet and Clank games.
  10. BTW Just gonna say right now be prepared for a rant on the WAN show tomorrow haha
  11. nah more like the vast underground wells of natural gas that they've breached
  12. Well I'm glad this is making mainstream news (at least in Australia): http://www.news.com.au/technology/gadgets/iphone-and-ipad-get-first-serious-virus/story-fn6vihic-1227114728358 Hopefully this will shut up the "Apple products can't get virus" group. Still less susceptible to viruses, yes, but not immune. I finally got rid of the super-annoying Sophos antivirus (that my school put on my MacBook...) and am replacing it with Avast so I'll be interested to see if it picks anything up.
  13. Gigabyte G1 Gaming. Make sure you get the G1 gaming version for higher binning and the backplate which looks sweet and prevents sagging. Asus Strix is also a good option.
  14. Oh and also that build is slightly outdated already as there are no R9 285s available at PC Case Gear. So my suggestion is spend a little less and get an R9 280 or GTX 760, and use the left over money to upgrade to an i3 which won't be overclockable but actually is still slightly better than the G3258 all around because it has hyperthreading. Alternatively spend a bit more on the R9 280X or GTX 770 but I'm not sure if that's worth it with the G3258.
  15. I don't think you'll have any problems because the RAM should automatically underclock itself to 1333MHz. In fact even with 1600MHz RAM-supporting CPUs you have to go and enable that in the BIOS because 1333MHz is the stock speed. In saying this because the CPU is unlocked and overclockable I'm pretty sure you'd still be able to run at 1600MHz anyway.
  16. this isn't correct Translate means to move, so translating by (-3,0) means moving each point -3 units horizontally (i.e. 3 units left). Do this after doubling the size of the shape as @laxer said in the first part of his response.
  17. I know but that's the problem. Plus game devs are making games that are being locked at 30fps or, in some less extreme cases, 60fps on PC supposedly because they will break if they aren't. Which I doubt wouldn't be a problem if the consoles were capable of playing these games at higher frame rates...
  18. Just gonna say, you may wish to simply upgrade your fan to a quieter one (e.g. Noctua or Be Quiet). Less cost involved
  19. Avast is the personal favourite of myself and many others on the forum. AVG is popular too.
  20. Well I was hoping they'd use the die shrink to make them more powerful rather than cheaper. I mean they're already pretty cheap (relatively speaking) and making them more powerful would a) be a great marketing tool and b) help push devs back towards 1080p/60fps so that they can actually support the PC version properly
  21. Maybe the inventor of the Liquid Crystal Display - George Heilmeier (won't lie had to Google that one) Also worth noting he isn't the "sole inventor", more the main contributor. Although this goes for a lot of more modern inventions I think, people don't tend to work alone on this stuff anymore.
  22. 60fps for gameplay, but for LTT 4K is better. Remember, the reason why the 30/24fps "is more cinematic" argument is flawed for games is because graphics cards can't render motion blur properly. For things recorded with actual cameras, 30fps or even 24fps is usually completely fine.
