  1. thanks =) I used flat black and flat white Krylon spray paint for plastic, and then i clear coated with a satin Krylon coat as well, here's the post i made on reddit, the imgur album has some more pictures, i remember seeing small cracks in the stems of my keycaps when i took them off , hopefully it will last. good luck man if u plan to do this
  2. I absolutely love what you did to your G710+. I have the same keyboard and I've got to say I would have spent $20 more if it looked like that out of the box. I was wondering if you could tell me what spray paint you used and how you did it exactly?

  3. Spray painted G710+ with MX Brown switches!

  5. Just a quick update on how things are going: i downloaded some templates from mnpctech.com Taped the rear 120mm fan and front 2x120mm fan templates to the case and cut it all by hand with a dremel. Here's a 120mm fan test fit, ill be using the fan grill from my broken psu for the rear 120mm Finished results of dremeling! I also got the 2nd piece of aluminum cut and bent for the front and sides however i messed up on some measurements making it too long and not having a flap on one side, hopefully ill get this fixed tomorrow and i should look nice. I am planning on finishing up and sand blasting the case on thursday & friday at my school's shop and then it will be winter break so i won't be able to go to the shop anymore, no pressure . Im still not sure if ill be keeping the dull sand blasted look, i have some matte black automotive paint im considering on using), im also considering trying to brush the aluminum VERY CAREFULLY with sandpaper attached to a right angle wood block to keep it straight. I'll hopefully get my computer inside this case probably on saturday/sunday. Stay Tuned!
  6. I was considering buying another nf-r8 and replacing the fans like this lol but when I did the test fit there was almost no room
  7. Hi all! Please understand that this build isn't anything high end but i sure is special, at least to me it is. Please excuse the terrible image quality, i promise i will take the final build log pictures with a DSLR, not a nexus 4 PROLOGUE: It started after the summer of 2012 when i was 13 years old and i finally got sick of my crappy laptop, i got interested in computers thanks to linus, I built a Hackintosh for my father and in exchange he gave me his 2008 rig Original Specs: Asus P5Q Pro Motherboard Intel q9550 quad core @ 2.83Ghz 4Gb ddr2 ram AMD 3450 GPU 512Mb Vram Disc drive, 640Gb Seagate Barracuda, 1tb WD Black. Coolermaster Elite Case + PSU combo Anyways i immediately bought 2 LED 120mm silverstone fans and started pimping my brand new rig i noticed my rig was rather loud compared to my laptop. I started by cutting up my case fans and ghetto rigging a switch to the front of my case allowing me to turn the fans on when gaming or off when browsing. The next step i took was buying a GPU to take advantage of this new customization that comes with being part of the #PcMasterRace After about a year of research and watching LTT the Nvidia Geforce 600 series was about to be released and i saw a MSI GTX 560ti Hawk Edition GPU on sale for $130 on NCIX With my recent birthday money and powers of persuasion i convinced my father to get me that Graphics Card, it arrived and i played games like Skyrim & Far Cry 3 and enjoyed this great experience. however... This gpu was SO LOUD! it literally sounded like someone turned on the hair dryer, you could easily hear it from outside my room even with a closed door. I decided that the next thing i need is a cpu cooler to at least reduce that noise since there wasn't much i could do about the gpu noise (except for that time i attempted to put ghetto noise dampening foam in my case) half a year later i bought a Hyper 212 Evo (later OCing my cpu to 3.4Ghz) and as i was installing it my top mounted psu i had to unscrew fell right onto my graphics card ._. when i booted up my pc i began producing artifacts, i thought i was a bright idea to take the card out and just carefully press it together in hopes of getting the connections the way they are supposed to be. it somewhat fixed the problem and my gpu would function relatively normally until i turned on a graphically intensive game, then it would artifact and eventually freeze windows. a few weeks earlier my mother was going to recycle my gpu box but i stopped her because i liked how fancy the box was. i took the box out and saw it had my order info on it and a 3 year warranty! i decided to try and RMA the gpu since my only other option would be to try and bake it in hopes of regaining broken connections. i mentioned nothing about the PSU incident (shhhh) and after going through their nice customer service and paying 20 dollars for shipping they nicely sent me a 660ti Power Edition because they had not 560ti's in stock. the first gpu they sent as a replacement did not work either for some reason, it wasn't my computer because the 3450 still worked fine. after a somewhat awkward process of explaining i have to rma my rma they were nice and paid for express shipping and i got a working 660ti PE the next day. this card was noticeably quieter than the hawk i had, i could barely tell the difference between idle and load sound. I continued with my goal of a silent pc by modding the cooler master 550 watt psu that came with my case, i replaced the loud stock fan with a noctua nf-p12, this was a great investment and my pc was almost completely silent except for the hard drives. i bought some ram from a shady facebook used electronics page, the hippy (probably was selling it to buy the marijuanas) i got it from claimed it was 2x8Gb sticks of ddr2 ram "run all of your call of duty's on max bro"-hippy, the sticker on the side of the ram said 2x4gb (he claimed it meant there was 4Gb on each side of the ram stick), whatever, i got 8Gb of ddr2 ram for 40 dollars, i didn't really argue (i probably should have now that i think of it), at least it's better than my previous 4Gb total. I started modding my case by spray painting some bits, removing the hard drive bays and even cutting a windows later on. I spray painted the psu wires black, all of this was done with a can of matte black automotive spray paint, this was a terrible idea as the smell of the paint stayed for weeks and my dad considered this so unhealthy that he just threw out the case when it was getting some air outside under the sundeck. a while later my psu started smell terrible and even begin to smoke whenever it turned on. this had to be scrapped as well, i did manage to recover that noctua at least. I had to run my pc externally on top of my home made subwoofer box (can't get more ghetto than this). my father brought in old cases and PSUs from his work and i used those, this first case was not wide enough for the hyper 212 evo, had a proprietary mobo mounting system, and a weak psu that had proprietary mounting points. i got a bit creative and bypassed the last problem but the side panel not going on and me unable to use my fancy gpu was not good. I borrowed a friend's 7450 and used rubber bands to attach an old nf-r8 and overclocked it to the max. my father brought in a cooler master 460 watt psu and an old custom workstation pc with a MASSIVE case made of solid steel, this thing was big and ugly but it served its purpose for about a year. The in late summer this year we moved into a new house and this inspired me to refresh my pc's look and do some more modding after a year of not touching my pc. Unfortunately i do not have any pictures of the most recent case. OBJECTIVE: My goal with this project was to make a unique case for my pc from scratch using resources at my school's auto mechanics shop. I wanted this case to be very space efficient and silence oriented. I got inspired to build a case after taking drafting and design this semester, i knew the potential of the mechanics class as i took it in grade nine. my drafting teacher was also the mechanics teacher and i showed him my plans and he gave me permission to use his shop. I bought all of the 20 gauge aluminum for my case from him for 12 dollars which i feel is a great deal. he got me to set up the plasma cutter and cut the 1st sheet i need, i have never used a plasma cutter in my life and my line was very jagged, this ended up with him facepalming and finishing the 1st cut for me. i got home, measured the cut and bend points i needed to make i spent every lunch time that week in the mechanics shop cutting the mobo tray from my old case and bending that sheet aluminum into a box shape, it was difficult because my sheet of metal was longer than the metal bending device, in the end i managed to fit it in by making some more cuts and using brute force. this made some dents & imperfections on my box however i believe i can file and hammer them down enough that when i finally finish the case with a sandblast it should look alright. I used a dremel to make the PSU cutout Here is a test fit I'm currently working on refining the box and getting all of the IO i need cut out, i still need to cut out a rear 120 or 140mm fan and 2 front 140 or 120 mm fan mounts I also took apart my GPU and cleaned the fans, heatsink, and replaced the thermal compound with Arctic Silver 5, i decided not to include those 5 or so pictures as i have already posted a a lot, tell me if you would like to see the GPU pictures! In case anyone asks how my front and side panels will work its kind of difficult for me to explain but pretty much they will be a single sheet of aluminum bent to go around the sides and front and screw in at the back, there will be a .75" gap at the front on the bottom and top for the front intake, kind of like on the NZXT S340.
  8. i have a gtx 660ti power edition from msi linus review here: the cooler is getting old and loud now and i would like to make it quiet again, maybe even get some better performance out of it my budget is >70 dollars and my first priority is silence, then cost, then performance. i looked around and it seems like i have 4 options 1. disassemble the fans and clean them thoroughly, probably will still be pretty loud and will end up buying sound dampening foam or something 2. replace those fans by finding 2 80mm fans and ghetto mounting them onto the cooler 3. buying this cooler http://www.arctic.ac/worldwide_en/accelero-mono-plus.html 4. buying this cooler http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=46&lng=en or some other cooler and making a ghetto mounting plate to fit the gpu mounting holes i'de like to have almost identical or better performance, i'm curious which option would yield the best performance sorry for all the text feel free to add any ideas and thoughts thanks.
  9. i remember discovering LTT when i wanted to learn to build a computer, and i did. thanks for everything, you guys deserve this 1 million sub milestone
  10. my favorite things about the g550jk are its great looks, quality of material(aluminium), screen(1080p ips), and hardware to back it up with power to do all sorts of things
  11. My favorite thing about the g3 is the great physical and software design!
  12. i don't even know how to describe this...
  13. desirably > $120 in price but im open to higher prices
  14. im looking for a small, sturdy and quiet computer case that still supports a full atx mobo. something like this: http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-a55/ any other good ones to take a look at? has to have clearance for a hyper 212 evo and enough cooling for a msi 660ti power edition and room for preferably 2 hdds but i can survive with one 2.5" ssd if nessesary. Thanks in advanced for any suggestions desirably > $120 in price but im open to higher prices
  15. In 5th grade me and a friend were trick or treating. And we went to this house that a girl from our school lived in. So we rang the doorbell and there was no answer, we looked and saw them watching TV through the window. I tried the door and it opened and there was a bag of doritos just sitting there. My friend ran away and I looked and grabbed the dorito bag and ran across the lawn to him. He tripped and fell faceplant mode. I laughed at him and didn't notice the small wire fence dividing the lawn and i also fell and sprawled onto the ground. After all of our noise and our candy flying everywhere and my pants getting ripped on the wire we could just see them looking out the windows at us like the retards we were. I awkwardly avoided that girl at school thinking that she didn't notice it was me but she later tolde that we were the only derps that would do that so non-gracefully. Good times lol
