    Hello all,

my good ol' 780 died on me a few days ago, so I need a new GPU.

My system consists of a 3570k@4.3ghz, on a 1080P monitor running 120hz. I've got plenty (mostly 2nd hand) options, such as 980ti, 1070, 1070ti, 1060 6GB... Should I pick whatevers most bang for the buck, or does it makse sense to pick one card over the other?

Best bang for the buck in my opinion.

    thx

    Model?

So... globaly set this in Nvidia Control Panel:
    G-sync ON
    V-sync ON

    In-game settings - V-sync off.

    Will that work fine? ?
I've got my game set at low settings except for draw distance and 1080p resolution.
I'm still concerned why people limit their FPS to 237 for example. Why would they download third party software to do it, if V-sync can simply keep the game at max refresh rate and G-sync takes care of stuttering below that? ?

As @Shimejii said because V-sync is garbage. It's outdated.

With those setting everything should be fine, mostly. However you should still do a test-run with V-sync globally OFF and ON.

If there is 0 differences it's much better to run games with V-sync OFF. If there is a massive tearing you could just limit you max fps to your refresh rate.

Hello, I'm deciding which monitor to buy right now and I've read that if your PC goes above monitor's refresh rate, G-sync is disabled and V-sync replaces it momentarily.
When you play below your monitor's refresh rate, G-sync activates.

Is that true? What are the drawbacks of V-sync replacing G-sync above max. refresh rate?

Also I've seen people also use RTSS rivatuner to limit their fps below max refresh rate => V-sync is probably bad?

My PC can handle about 120-280 fps in Fortnite, so I'm hoping that G-sync will make my game smoother even if there are fps drops.

Well, V-sync is bad mainly because some games don't work well while using V-sync. Also the G-sync ON V-sync ON is mainly to get rid of tearing if you go past the refresh rate of your display.

So you think I should flash BIOS to old version? And try then to boot?

How can I check voltage/timings? And SATA mode?

Nah, you just go to your BIOS with F12 or DELETE or whatever the board uses.

In the BIOS you go to settings -> advanced -> integrated peripherals. There you should find SATA mode. If you didn't overclock your previous CPU you don't need to check the voltages.

If you still cannot get into windows try clearing the CMOS, it should reset all BIOS settings. IF nothing helps you could try to revert back to older BIOS.

Sorry for these super long wait times.

I just bought a i7 4790k and want to run it on my MSI Z87 G43.

To make this possible I updated my BIOS and ME. The BIOS and ME update was successfull, but now I get Windows Error Messages at booting.

Before that even the MSI loading screen stuck or got black screen but after the update I only get Windows Error Messages which differ from each other but Windows is not booted at all.

    Hello again :D

"when you flash the BIOS it returns to default settings. It's also possible for the default settings to change values from the old BIOS . if you set anything yourself in the old BIOS put the settings back the way you had them. Check that your memory timings/voltages are right. Also check your SATA mode for the harddrives. Windows won't boot if its been switched fro AHCI to IDE or vice versa. "

Also you could try to clear CMOS.

    Uh... It's an EVGA board

From what I hear the EVGA board is very good. Tha being said, I think ASRock is a little more established in the motherboard parts, and is most likely the better overall choice. $30 though on similarly optioned motherboards is a bit hard to justify. For such similar power delivery, the OC results you get will depend more on how well you fare in the silicon lottery. So it's more up to you I think lol do you want to spend the extra cash?

Yea :D i was reading another thread with MSI board so it stuck with me.

I updated and it said I have the latest version now.

I put in the new cpu and the computer is not booting correctly.

It stuck at loading screen and says repair is starting. And then it restarte and after the loading screen I only get a black screen.

Maybe because it doesn't use onboard gpu?

Hmm, your best bet atm is to use the old CPU to access your computer and try to reinstall the BIOS with an USB drive.

This is a common problem so you have nothing to worry yet. Also sorry for these long waiting periods since i can't always access my computer.
