  1. Here we are. It is 2021 and hardware prices have gone through the roof. Try and squeeze more time and life out of an older purchase? Or simply wait for better times? My daughter has a Lenovo Yoga 730 2-in-1 with an i7 8550U (4 cores, 8 threads) and 16GB ram. It came with the gtx1050 option. It has TB3 as well. It's still a decent laptop for her creative uses but she's just beginning to become more interested in gaming. Light gaming to be clear. A fairly bad time for this to happen as we all know. But there is some good news to this. I do have an RTX 2060 KO Ultra doing absolutely nothing. I also have a cheapo 1080p 144Hz TN panel that is also doing nothing. I'm wondering if picking up something like a Razer Core X for less than $400CAD would be a decent way of both giving her the means to play some light gaming with her friends while keeping the money spent to a minimum until things are somewhat back to normal. She's more interested in a new desktop than me getting her another laptop, just so you know. And I agree with her. But not now. I've seen other threads here with this processor paired with 1070 based eGPU's. Those threads are old though and rules are rules. So a new thread it is. I would expect the 2060 to probably perform about the same? I think?? I hope? I don't expect to get the full performance out of the 2060 but if anyone has any experience with a similar processor and a 2060 or even 10 series over TB3, your shared experiences or other insights would be greatly appreciated.. I don't want to throw money away and would rather wait if this config is even remotely terrible. Cheers!
  2. Sounds like a really neat extra! On the other hand, I now have enough LTT stickers to cover a bus. Haha While reading this thread, I can't help but think of...
  3. Not sure where this quote came from. Rohith_Kumar_Sp said something similar but it was "had to come to US from Africa as the doctors just don't know how to cure his disease" == quite different. Since you asked--It isn't perfectly accurate by any means but a quick look on socialblade shows a possible current top income of a little less than 100k. Divvy that up between him and the two of his team along with operating costs, etc. That leaves very little to support a family. Let alone medical costs for a condition with an unknown treatment as yet. The channel is still in its early growth. So, last year would have been even less. All of this is easily found via search. It all looks pretty fair to me. Medical care in the US can be brutally expensive at times from what I hear. I'm Canadian, so I'm no expert on what potential costs are down there. Anyway, you asked. I answered as best I can. Cheers!
  4. I can't quite remember the exact details but there was a time not long ago where LTT was sponsoring ads for LTTStore.com on other channels (if I recall correctly) as a joke of sorts. UFD ran with it and did so quite hilariously. I'm fairly certain that the domain registration and redirect had something to do with that bit of fun. Not much of anything nefarious. UFDStore.com was the domain that was brought up in the last WAN Show. Again, my memory is a bit fuzzy on this one and I haven't searched it out but this is the gist of what I recall. Perhaps someone here with a better memory can confirm.
  5. Epilepsy can't be cured as yet. Some forms can be treated and sometimes it can decrease or just go away. Brett's son seems to have a rare form where most of the known treatments aren't really helping so far. As he mentioned in the video, his son can have up to 100 seizures in just a day. =(
  6. To help spread the news, posting here in case any of you might end up missing this. Another devastating blow to UFD Tech surrounding circumstances ranging from national policies to the pandemic just a year after coming to the USA in the hopes of better care for Brett's son. Sadly, Reece and Catlin will be heading back to South Africa very soon. Brett says they'll be working remotely. The format and future goals of the channel are yet to be figured out. Let's all show them the love they deserve and spread the word so we can all say goodbye to the UFD crew in style. Their 'last' live stream (together, I presume. Hopefully not the last stream, period) will be Oct 30 on Twitch. Link in the video description. I wish you guys all the best and a hopeful future!
  7. Supporting them other than through the usual LTT routes is a good question. Perhaps after a while when they feel their audience has grown enough, some merch would be nice. ? I'm personally waiting for Carpool Critics popcorn buckets but a t-shirt or hoodie would suffice. ? Cheers!
  8. Typo. You're right. Took me a moment to figure out what you were saying. Cheers!
  9. Ah I see. I'm actually considering both of these exact coolers for a 3900X system I started buying parts for. For me, whichever I can get for a better price and availability in my area. The NH-D15 chromax black consistently comes in at being more expensive in my area so... Either will be a good choice.
  10. After considering your ram clearance that I think you've answered, according to the specs, you should have about 5mm of space left over with the NH-D15S (160mm) and an H500 (165mm total max) case. According to various posts on reddit (and here), the Dark Rock Pro 4 (163mm) does actually fit in an H500 (165mm total max) with a bit tighter of a fit at 2mm left to spare. Not sure about ram without searching more. They included pics of it installed in their case: Imgur Photos of Dark Rock Pro 4 in H500 case
  11. Depending on what your motherboard came with, generally, yes, the quality is better. Better DACs, higher bit rates, better control over gain, routing input to external devices and back, phantom power etc. Some come with midi too. If you plan on just recording your voice (not singing, just spoken) then an external audio interface might be overkill. But if you are recording singing, drums, bass/guitar or anything that requires detailed dynamics then yes, an interface is a good choice. It also offers more flexibility as far as the rest of your equipment goes toward integrating analogue and digital to your computer and DAW or whatever software you plan to use. I currently use a Steinburg UR-22 as it basically covers all my own needs for my current setup. Cheers!
  12. I was going to point out Jayztwocents but it's already been done. NH-D15 kept up and surpassed a 360mm AIO in average temps. It only came second during spikes due to heat soak but even then, well within acceptable means. At this point, the only true advantage an AIO would have over the NH-D15(s) is space available for ram and PCIe on some boards. Along with height clearance as it will not fit in some cases. I want to use the NH-D15 with my next 3900X build but won't be able to use the Lian-Li O11 AIR which is disappointing. The XL variant would work though or I can just go with an AIO but they are generally louder and my build will be used primarily for audio production. So it all depends. As well, these days as far as AIO's go, worrying about water is not a real concern anymore. But I understand all the same. Good luck!
  13. Majority of LMG's audience is also located in the USA and as has been explained in many videos (WAN show mainly), the store doesn't allow them to display multiple currencies. Perhaps in the future but no promises or expectations. If you use a chromium based browser, there are many currency converter extensions to choose from. Not ideal and pose other concerns but it works. Possibly available for other browsers but don't know any offhand. Until then, us Canadians and other non US viewers are left to use a little more math than the others. ? I think we can manage, right? Cheers!
  14. @RILEYISMYNAME, @James, and David! (Not sure what David's username is if he's here) Firstly, really enjoy the show. I do enjoy other shows as well but hearing from people that I'm somewhat familiar with adds a little more to the critique and perspective. The personalities are key and between the three of you, the spectrum just works. In my mind, James and David are opposite ends of the spectrum while Riley sits in between. Happy that CC isn't just focused on new releases etc and was pleasantly surprised with the coverage of Parasite. That was good and you didn't let me down as during the whole cast I was thinking to myself, "what about the title? Why aren't you commenting on the title?" and right at the end, it was brought up. Cool. As classics go and somewhat of a possible theme to use as part of series or some such is to choose a prominent or recognizable film maker and while mentioning some of their more recent and popular works, go back and feature their first full length film. For instance, David Lynch as an example. Eraserhead Which could open the door for other like films such as Pi Of course it need not be film noir or body horror genre films. I just used those as an example. You can do this with any myriad of film makers. It could be a fun rabbit hole for you gents and us listeners to go down together and shed some light on films that many might not even be aware that their favourite film makers had worked on. Glad you guys are back on Floatplane! Cheers!
  15. He said he wasn't actually retiring. He had been thinking about it and has decided to change his mindset about the work and prioritize his family. He's been going hard for so many years, he's trying to let us know that he'd like to ease off the pedal a little and giving us a heads up before we start to wonder. He isn't actually leaving as he said in his stream.
