  1. Hello all, I recently started a new job and my first project is redesigning a website aimed at getting people to move to the region, specifically tech oriented professionals. I'm not exactly part of the demographic(I'm a tech person, but I've lived here all my life and never really considered moving). I want to survey people on the important things they'd like to know when considering moving to a new region for a tech related job, but I don't know how to do that, or if it's even possible, so I thought I'd put the question out and see if any of you know a good way for me. Thanks in advance for any help! :)

  3. I guess I gotta get my 40 core server up and running to do some folding
  4. Thank you all for the suggestions, I'll take a look at all of these and see what I like!
  5. Thank you all for the replies, I'll take a look at these and see what I like
  6. I like all kinds of stuff, so something funny, or informative, or something like that. Or if you just have one that you like I'd love to hear what it is
  7. Hello everyone, I have a job where I do a lot of driving and it has been getting pretty dull lately. I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations of interesting podcasts to listen to while driving
  8. To answer the question "What are mechanical keyboards all about?" I'd say that it's about having a variety in your keyboard experience. There's a huge amount of variety in the switches that are available, each with their own feel, advantages, and/or disadvantages. It's about finding the keyboard that fits what you personally like, for whatever reason you like it. At least, that's what it's about for me.
  9. I'd argue that reds feel notably different than membranes in that they feel very solid when they bottom out, while membranes are squishy at the bottom. Reds are linear so they require relatively consistent force to actuate and eventually bottom out, where tactile and clicky switches have a spike in the force required to actuate them. These spikes in the actuation force required to get past the tactile bump generally makes them "slower" when it comes to gaming, in a purely technical sense. Also, membranes do generally have a tactile feedback coming from overcoming the force required to overcome the rubber dome, but this varies greatly by keyboard. Most MX reds also actuate in the center of their travel distance, and don't have to reset a tactile bump, so they're quicker to reset making them better for rapid fire. Lastly, reds and other linear switches, like most mechanical keyboards, have much greater durability than membranes as well. So there are many reasons why someone would go with a red or other linear switch over a membrane keyboard. It has a lot to do with what you're comfortable with and what your use case is. I personally use a keyboard with Cherry MX Reds and I enjoy not having any tactile feedback until my key bottoms out, and it bottoms out with a strong and satisfying clack as opposed to a squish on a membrane.
  10. Exactly, so I believe that the hype comes from a good, relatively inexpensive, and available competitor to Finalmouse from a well known and liked company
  11. I have plenty of people ask me about my opinions on Final Mouse, as until the Model O comes out, is the "best" option for an extremely light mouse. But Final Mouse doesn't put any effort into their supply, and when they do come in stock, there's no quantity limit on how many can be purchased, so they're always out of stock. Then if that's what you want, you have to buy it aftermarket for a ridiculous markup, and it all just feels anti-consumer to me. Glorious Gaming seems to be a good brand as far as what people online say, so if anyone was interested in a Final Mouse, I'd direct them here instead.
  12. Just an update on this issue: The latest BIOS update from HP on this laptop reduces the allocated VRAM from 2GB to 1GB which is a significant improvement and helps greatly when I'm working in photoshop, illustrator, and have chrome open. Just wanted to update this thread in case anybody wanted to get this laptop but was put off by the vram issue
  13. Thank you for the reply, those are likely what I'll go with
  14. Hello all! I currently have a relatively inexpensive set of computer speakers, but I'm looking to upgrade to a set of studio monitors. As the title suggests, I'm looking to stay below $500. I was wondering if any of you excellent and knowledgeable have any recommendations for me. Thanks in advance!
  15. I looked into it, the RAM on this device is non removable, so HP really kind of screwed me over on that. However, I got an extremely good deal on the computer through my place of employment, so I can't complain too much
  16. I don't think I can actually change the RAM, last time I opened it, it up, I don't believe there are sodimm slots, I think they're soldered in place. I'll double check though since I'm not adverse to upgrading my RAM
  17. I appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately, HP doesn't have this option in the BIOS. I was hoping there may be some other way, but it looks like there probably isn't.
  18. I have an HP Envy 13 with a Ryzen 7 2700u. My laptop has 8GB of ram but 2GB is set to be dedicated to the GPU. As a result, I only have 6GB available to windows and I sometimes max this out when I'm doing work on this machine. I don't need 2GB of vram for how I use this laptop, an extra gigabyte of ram would be much more valuable to me. Is there a way I can change this. I haven't been able to find anything yet, but I'm hoping someone here knows something that I don't.
  19. Currently working on a $100 gaming pc project for fun. Will post more about it when it's done

  20. I have a GeForce 2 MX somewhere, I'll post pics when I find it
