When i first got into PCs, i was using windows, and an OSX macbook (i was forced to use it okay... don't ask). Then i delved a little into Android, and consequently Linux.
At the moment, i've got an Ubuntu 15.04 (gnome 3.16) vm, and Windows 10 on both PC and macbook.
Here's why:
- Mouse profiles: I'm using a Logitech G502, and i've got a profile for a bunch of apps, and all my games. Each profile has different bindings for the mouse buttons, and usually different DPI settings.
- Mouse acceleration. Maybe it's just me, but despite spending ages trying to fix this, gaming in linux always felt a little weird (due to the mouse)
But also due to - drivers - Yes, every other device in a PC just works, linux is great with drivers. But GPU drivers? It's rather terrible, especially
- Google Chrome - I'm heavily invested in the Google ecosystem, and chrome is part of that. But odd display issues occur a lot. Upon opening the window will flicker black. Resizing it causes the same flickering. At one point the top toolbar in the chrome window was black.
- Microsoft Word - Libreoffice just doesn't seem to cut it. Maybe i should give it a chance
- app compatibility
- backup - okay this is me being a noob. Is there a good alternative similar to syncbackfree. Which is an awesome backup app for windows
- Monitors - due to. reasons... I have to have one monitor connected (HDMI) to the integrated graphics, and the other two (DVI) to the GPU (AMX r9 280x). Although i haven't tried recently, previously it's been impossible to get the monitors setup. One of the dvi monitors is portrait, and whenever i try to set this, the middle display bugs out (odd corruption all over the screen is how i'd describe it.
I want to switch to Linux, with windows in the background for games. But the fact is, unless i can fix all of the above, i can't
But thank you for this post. I'm about to install ubuntu 15.10 in a dualboot, as we speak. I'll give it another go, and look for solutions.
EDIT: Getting a black screen on my install (after installing fglrx-updates). We're off to a good start!
