  1. Thank you for your reply. I will certainly check them out. I have not really experienced 144Hz, so I was interested in seeing what it is all about. However, 60FPS is smooth enough, for sure, and I am a sucker for pretty graphics.
  2. Hello, I just finished rebuilding my PC. I have a Ryzen 5 2600/RTX 2080 SUPER/16GB RAM/ 500GB SSD. I am looking for a monitor now, but I am unsure what I could/should get for my set up. There are (the ones I am looking at, anyway) 1080p@144/60FPS or 1440p@144/60FPS. I don't know which one is better suited for my specs. And, then there are brands and models. I am at a stand still. If it helps, I play games like Red Dead, Assassin's Creed, The Witcher 3, Total War series, Far Cry, GTA...ETC. The only real multiplayer game that I play is CoD Warzone. Here are a few I am looking at (my budget is $500 USD), but I am totally open to suggestions and advice! HP X27i 27” 2k Gaming Monitor with AMD FreeSync, 1440p 144Hz, QHD, IPS, Ambient Lighting, Height Adjustable, Narrow Bezel (8AG16AA) MSI Full HD RGB Gaming LED Non-Glare Super Narrow Bezel 1ms 2560 x 1440 144Hz Refresh Rate SteelSeries GameSense FreeSync 27” Curved Gaming Monitor (Optix MPG27CQ) Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz 27" WQHD (2560x1440) NVIDIA G-SYNC IPS Monitor, (Display Port & HDMI Port, 144Hz), Black Thank you in advance for any and all responses and help. I could surely use it.
  3. Thanks! Yeah, I don't plan on overclocking. I just want to play some games, really. I don't plan on using the Adobe products extensively, just enough for school (last semester, BTW). I will probably still freelance light web design, like just using HTML and CSS, but I probably won't be using Premiere and After Effects too much longer I would love to wait, but I need to build something like today lol. Any word on when it is releasing? And, if I have an understanding of what I have read, will the new Ryzens are compatible with the 2600 socket?
  4. I hope this isn't the right spot. If not, please accept my apologies and direct me where I can move it. Thank you. I am on a budget, so it is either go with the Ryzen and have cash left over for whatever, or go for the i7 8700 (which, I need to buy a CPU cooler for, as well) and be totally spent. I know I could probably get away with an RTX 2060, because right now I am at 1080@60. However, I want the 2070, and I plan to upgrade my monitor in the near future. Is the 2600 and 2070 a good combo? It will be mostly gaming, but will also use it for day to day stuff, as well as some school projects that will include Photoshop, Dreamweaver and light Premiere/After Effects work (these last two programs will not be heavy use, so I don't know if it should be a deciding factor). Also, if I go with the Ryzen, is the stock heatsink good enough or will I have to invest in an aftermarket cooler? Thank you in advance for your help, suggestions and responses.
  5. Thanks for replying. I can live without raytracing. If I understand it correctly, is still in its infancy and really puts out a big performance hit when enabled. Is that correct?
  6. Thank you for your reply. Would you happen to know how it fairs up to the new 1660ti and the 20xx series?
  7. Hello. I have an opportunity to to purchase a brand new, still in the wrapper MSI GTX 1070 8GB Gaming graphics card for $260. I was wondering a few things: Is this a good deal for this card? Is it good enough to push 1080@60 for a while? Should I hold off and save some cash for a newer RTX 2060/2070? I think that is about it. I may upgrade my monitor, but for now it is 1080@60. The rest of my rig is capable, so the last thing I need is a GPU. Thank you in advance for your help and responses!
  8. Yes. HDR is disabled. Yeah, I have a Nvidia card, so FreeSync is a no-go, but I bought it with the Xbox One X in mind originally. I swear I have tried just about everything and I find it really weird.
  9. I am hoping some of you knowledgeable folks around here can help me out with an issue, or perhaps I should label it a challenge, that I am facing. Let me state this here: The rig I built has an i7 8700/16GB DDR4 RAM/EVGA SSC GTX 1070 8GB/26GB SSD/1TB Western Digital Black 7200rpm HDD. So, I purchased an LG 27UK600 4K HDR FreeSync monitor. I bought primarily for the Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro, as my gaming PC cannot run games in 4K. However, I decided to fire up a few games to see how 1080p@60 would look on the LG's display. I tested out Assassin's Creed Origins, GTA V, The Witcher 3, Homefront: The Revolution, Just Cause 3, some games from the Total War series...etc. I cannot run any of those games without running into some kind of lag, stuttering and/or choppiness on the LG. I tried every setting tweak I can find, multiple configs and used HDMI and display port cables. I have tried tweaking the Nvidia Control Panel settings. I have enabled and disabled FreeSync. I think that I have messed with ever possible way to improve performance, but they just will not run well, at all. I finally decided to hook up my PC to a 32" Panasonic Viera tc-32lew56 1080p LCD TV, and low and behold all of the games (especially AC: Origins) ran smooth and flawlessly, most on Ultra/Custom settings. Would anyone have any experience dealing with this or may know why this would happen? At this point, I was thinking about purchasing a 32" computer monitor, since I will probably have to give this TV back to my daughter soon lol. Thank you in advance for all help, advice and suggestions.
  10. Hello. I will start off with the monitors I using: They are both PC monitors. One is an (4K) LG 27" 27UK600 HDR FreeSync and the other (1080p) is an ASUS 23.8" PB238Q I have some issues playing 1080@60 gaming on a 4K display. I tested games like Assassin's Creed Origins, GTA V, Homefront: The Revolution...etc, on my 4K display. I was getting crazy lag, frame drops and spikes. I set my Nvidia CP to 1080@60 and set my game at 1080@60. I received the same results. The settings I tested we're from Ultra to Medium with custom settings, as well. So, I decided to switch to my 1080p 60Hz monitor. I fired it up and tested Assassin's Creed Origins first...on Ultra settings. I got a very stable 60fps with no lag, drops or stutters. I tested a few other games mentioned and had the same results. Is there any reason for this? I am disappointed that I cannot play a stable game on the 4K display, but I will surely take a stable frame rate any day. Does having FreeSync have anything to do with it? Thank you in advance for your help and responses!
  11. I wanted to give you a little update. I took it the card and reseated it. Uninstalled MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner and FRAPS, set the default to the Nvidia Control Panel, then set Vsync on and Max Pre-Render Frames to 1 in the Nvidia Control Panel and went into my mobo's BIOS and disabled Virtualization and VT-D. I am still on my HDD. I am getting a very smooth frame rate at 1080p@60 with no stutters, lag it hiccups and I have a mix of settings from medium (shadows and AA) to very high. I don't know what thing in particular happen to make it smooth, but hell, I will take it. Thank you for your help.
  12. On a whim, went into my mobo's BIOS and disable virtualization and VT-D and went into the Nvidia Control Panel and turned V-Sync on and Max Pre-Rendered frames to 1 and it seems pretty smooth now. Just an occasional jump instead of every other step/second. No too bad...if I can just the occasional to stop, I will be a happy camper.
  13. It is really jarring. I don't know what it could be. I am going to do what you suggested, but man, it is just like a little skip, if you will, every other step or every second.
