  1. While I appreciate that you, or others may not want to do this to a vintage computer, I would like to. My question was aimed towards helping better understand the different challenges that need to be overcome incl. converting my digital signal, physically connecting to the display, etc. This is in the hopes of developing a roadmap for this project. My end goal is to find a non-destructive method to achieve this. In particular, I am looking to achieve the goals of my project using this machine with this display, as its the one I own and use frequently. Otherwise, I would've amended "or should I buy an external monitor?" to the end of the post. Thanks for taking the time to reply, and if you can provide any more relevant information, please do
  2. Hello all, I have a perfectly functioning 1986 Macintosh SE Model: M5010, and I'd like to find a way to use the CRT display as an external display. Is such a thing even possible? Pics:
  3. IKR LOL I was definitely worried about it, but its running. No crashes but definitely some throttling, on top of performance issues from the 2950X single core. Not a fun time. 5950X is cheaper than a 12900K, I just want to make sure I get one that I am not going to regret in a year or two. I'm split between the 12900K and 5950X; can anyone weigh in?
  4. Yeah, this was the issue I ran into. I wasn't too worried about it at the time, but this chip hasn't aged well in my usage. 12900K is a worthy competitor, though I am curious as to how well it performs in production workloads. I'd like an option that suits both worlds. I also wonder if the performance and efficiency cores have any effect. The PCIE lanes are nice, I used 8 of the gazillion USB's that are included with my motherboard; and will be adding more in the near future. That said, I struggle finding single-core IPC numbers. What kind of difference would I be looking at with the 12900K and the 5900X vs. my 2950X? Will that make a significant improvement in the AAA games I play? I should have specified, I have 4x8GB DIMM's. The USB's are nice, and I do use a lot of them, I would like a motherboard comparable to mine currently, but I have to weigh AMD vs. Intel before I can make the decision. The USB's ports are nice to have, and I use a lot of them. I would prefer to have it and not need it, but the recommendation is much appreciated.
  5. My current system is experiencing lackluster performance in Windows 11, and I suspect the CPU may be the issue. I get a finicky 80-90FPS at 1440P and 1080P in CODMW (w/DLSS at balanced) and Apex Legends at high-ish settings. Doom Eternal can push 165-180 at high native 2k. AMD Threadripper 2950X RTX 3090TI 32GB's of DDR4 3200 ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme Alpha X399 750W Corsair PSU For upgrade recommendations, I'd like to use my current RAM in the new build. I am not opposed to team blue or red, but I would like to stay 12-16 cores as this is also a video/audio editing machine and something that can handle a 3080ti
  6. The rule of "have two copies locally, and one offsite" guides me to doing cloud storage. I'd like to use something similar to Backblaze or similar.
  7. Gotcha. What kind of network speeds could realistically make use of SSD's? 2.5GB/s? I noticed this unit lists two Gigabit ethernet connectors, would this unit be able to take advantage of upgraded network speeds? Also, how would the NAS work with an external file backup? (I have no experience with these kinds of devices, pardon the noob)
  8. I'm not sure what bitrate it runs at, the program in question is Ableton Live. Its not "streaming" in a traditional sense where files are loaded into RAM, instead the files are played back in real-time at original quality as a project moves along. My router acts as my switch, with my PC and the NAS hardwired. Gigabit ethernet ports. I'd love to stay under 500$ if possible. Synology DS420+ looks like a good option; however, how would I go about using SATA SSD's is there a reputable adapter that works well in the drive bays?
  9. I'm looking for a NAS solution for me and my fiance, who both do music/audio and video production and editing for work. I need something that fits the following criteria: Multiple-simultaneous lossless streaming of audio from disk. (I am okay with solid state, it needs to be fast enough) Something with the capability of incremental upgrades. Repair friendly, without any subscriptions or anti-consumer nonsense. Something that would work well with an offsite backup service, like Backblaze. Price isn't a huge concern, but cheaper options are welcome. For context, the software we use are: Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Adobe Premiere Pro, as well as sampler instruments that load large (several gigabyte) libraries from disk into RAM.
  10. I just tried running Ryzen Master and am met with a "VBS" error, which seems to be a common and unsolved problem amongst many of its users. I cannot outright disable virtualization (I run a lot of emulators,) do you know of any way to disable VBS?
  11. Hey all, I recently through together a new build, specs being: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950x cooled by an Aorus Liquid Cooler 360 ROG Zenith Extreme Alpha x399 32 GB's of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 @ 32000 MHz Gigabyte Aorus RTX 2080 Corsair RM 750x PSU The problem I am encountering is that my temps are being reported wildly different across the board, with the built-in screen on the motherboard reading 44°C, the cooler's OLED screen reading 71°C, and Speccy reading at a whopping 119°C. After a few hours of Doom Eternal and about an hour to cool off, those would be the stable temp reads. Any ideas as to why this is happening? I know Gigabyte has some of the worst software in the game, but such inconsistencies deter me from pushing this thing to 5GHZ.
  12. You have a new notification sinfulfartzilla commented on Good PC can't stream? I use Streamlabs OBS, and here's a picture.
  13. Hello all! I've been trying to set up streaming for a while and have been dealing with SEVERE frame drops in game when doing so. Here's some system info: Corsair CX650M 650 Watt Power Supply Asus Z-170A Motherboard Intel i770K CPU EVGA GTX 1070 Superclocked 8 GB's of GSkill HyperX DDR4 2133 MHZ My upload is about 8-9 mbps and I'm hardwired to the router. The games I want to stream are mainly Rainbow Six Seige and PUBG, but I usually drop from 110 FPS to an EXTREMELY shaky and unstable 60 FPS. I've tried outputting at 1080p and 720p, as well as 30 and 60 FPS. No dice on either of those. I'm at a loss here. Any ideas?
