  1. From my experience the 4790k is pretty happy running up to around 95 degrees although I would never recommend running it at that temperature, mine sits in the 30s at idle, 50s while gaming and low 70s when under a stress test. The thing to remember is that air coolers can sink significantly more heat as the temperature difference between the air and cpu increases, if you want to push it higher just go up slowly and I rekon you could see 4.6-4.8 on that cooler considering its 200w TDP
  2. this certainly seems to show 1.3 at 4.7 which is close enough considering the silicon lottery, thanks for bringing it to my attention. yeah ive heard a few people saying dont go above 1.4-1.5 range its sitting at 1.3 dead right now, the motherboard is an Asrock H81M-G, it was released after the H81 overclocking unlock and its pretty much only redeeming feature is beefy power delivery and caps

Hey, Havent been active on here for a while but I recently upgraded to an i7 4790k in a good deal, in overclocking I have it stable at 4.6GHz and 1.3v, I can push it up to 4.7GHz at 1.4v and 4.8 at 1.55v. This seems rather high to me, and 1.4v is the upper limit of my cooling, despite a custom water loop (rather bad CPU block which needs upgrading, I also have suspicions that the IHS needs lapping). Are there any tips for overclocking the 4790k that I might be missing? Because the voltages seem rather high for the respective clock speeds.
  4. I have 4 Arctic p12 PWM fans on a 240mm rad and it cools both my gpu and cpu, gpu at 40 degrees running unigine heaven and the cpu at 70 degrees running p95 small fft stress test after 10 minutes.
  5. there isnt a whole lot you can do for blower style coolers, 80 degrees is acceptable, a basic 2 fan design will hover at 60-70 and with water cooling its at about 40, but replacing the thermal interface material and making sure there is no dust in the heatsink cant to any harm. also i believe the meshify c has a bottom fan mount, potentially putting another 120mm fan (£7 arctic f12 or somthing cheap) in that space could help push cold air to the fan.
  6. sorry for the late reply, just bought the normal pwm ones and they work much better, about 50 degrees celcius on the cpu and gpu while gaming on a 240mm radiator
  7. if i remember properly, you can get raid cards for PCI slots, buy one and two cheap 120GB SSDs and then make a raid 0 array for mad boot times (even though it will probably be no better than a sata 3 ssd because pci has a bandwidth of a kiwi fruit
  8. hello all, i have 2 arctic p12 silent fans on my radiator and I saw that they have 1/4 of the static pressure and 1/2 of the airflow spec of the non silent counterparts. this is because the silent ones run at 1050 rpm max and the non silent ones run at 1800 rpm max, i was wondering if there is a way to remove the limitation on the silent fans. thanks for your help. edit: im pretty sure it is due to increased wire resistance so would replacing the wires help?
  9. if it is new you wont want to break the warranty seal but if you are ok with it then you could try a thermal compound replacement
  10. i use a gtx 1070ti with a 4790 and it works great in nearly all games, with only a slight bottleneck in csgo which is a cpu based game

  12. hello, im currently building a pc that i intend to sell on, the issue is that the r9 270 gpu is currently not working in the top pcie slot however when i use a 1x to 16x riser in the 16x slot it does work fine. but when i use a 16x to 16x riser it doesnt work again. likewise when i use the 1x riser on the 1x pcie slot it works and when i use the lower 16x slot it works again. spec: core i3 2120 8gb ddr3 1333 r9 270 2gb 500w psu 500gb hdd mobo: dell optiplex 790 bios: a22 uefi mode any help is appreciated.
  13. i can vouch for the performance of a gtx 1070ti but for the pricing i would personally go for the vega 56, and spend the extra money on something else. they are all reasonably equal in performance with the 1070ti at the top by no more than 15% and the rtx 2060 clapping at its heels if not beating it sometimes.
  14. are you sure that is in the front panel connector area, i think you may have plugged it into hd audio or usb 2, i think the yellow mobo connecors say front panel beside them edit: sorry ignore me didnt see where they were plugged in
