    with it i would just move up to the x99 platform.

    Nvidia had a problem with the x79 platform. Where the motherboards only ran 2.0 but there is this http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3135/~/geforce-gen3-support-on-x79-platform . It doesn't have the 980 listed so i don't know if it will work for you but it did work on mine with the 780 ti.

    I always wanted to try an mineral oil build. In fact i was looking at puget systems a little before the patent trolls happen. There kits seemed to be pretty nice. Its just sucks that patent trolls did this.
