  1. What is the advantage of running one of these instead of something like the BKHD Intel N5105 NAS Motherboard? It's an Intel CPU, so you can run Windows on it if you're a hard core windows user and if not, it'll run almost any version of Linux you can throw at it instead of a specific version for ARM cpus.
  2. I think my biggest issue with Windows 11 at this point is the extra clicks I need to jump through to perform tasks that I don't need to do on Windows 10. For instance, the context menu, yes I know you can get to the old context menu quickly, but it's 1 extra click that I otherwise wouldn't need to do. Just because Microsoft wants to make the UI friendlier for people who don't have a technical background. I also know I can get my old, more functional context menu back with a fairly simple registry edit, but I don't feel like I should be forced into editing the registry to accomplish that. The ribbon being removed from the default explorer window is another annoyance that necessitates several more clicks to perform the same functions again, like the context menu issue. And once again I can get that back with another registry edit but here we are again. Then we have those "value added" features that are designed for fucking who knows. Sports, photos weather etc. No one actually uses any of that shit but it takes up a huge part of the crappier, less useful Start Menu. You just know that this shit was added by some fucking focus group who think their main audience is the kind of people you only see in advertisements. None of those people actually fucking exist. You know the kind, the ones in the commercials who are hiking up the side of a cliff, wiping their heads drinking from a water bottle while some god awful trendy music plays in the background. Then it shows them scheduling their busy lifestyles using the ToDo list in the Start Menu. It's like the people from fucking Apple commercials, they only exist in the eyes of marketing execs, yet Windows 11's UI is designed around them. Which really sucks because there's some parts of the UI that I genuinely like. I also know there's tools you can get to restore a lot of the features, but once again, I shouldn't have to download a 3rd party tool to restore functionality to my operating system and I certainly shouldn't have to tool around in the registry either.
  3. Update, an old ax210 driver that still had 6ghz capability, specifically 2.45.1.1 works. I just had to disable Windows automatic driver update to get it to work. I am now fully connected to my 6ghz network. No thanks, once again to Microsoft. So to anyone in the same situation, this is the solution. The telemetry is a very big issue, but not the only thing I dislike. The "dumbing down" of the interface is another. I know that it can be worked around but I hate to have to do that. Especially when my settings will be unilaterally reverted every update. I'm sure I'll eventually have to "upgrade" but I'm going to put it off as long as I can.
  4. Listen to yourself man, Microsoft makes the operating system. Win10 isn't EOL yet, instead of, oh I don't know, adding that feature which some random guy on the Internet was able to do with his replacement driver, they decided to instead ignore it and force people on to their much shitter win11. You yourself admit that WIn11 sucks, so how exactly am I not allowed to blame Microsoft? In reality I'm not interested in your opinion on whom I'm allowed to blame for the issue, I was wondering if anyone had any other working solutions, if you don't have one then fine.
  5. Incorrect. It WAS supported, Microsoft pulled it from Win10 and made it a win11 exclusive feature. I will 100% blame Microsoft for this. https://kb.netgear.com/000064669/I-m-having-problems-connecting-my-Intel-AX210-WiFi-6E-adapter-to-my-WiFi-6E-router-or-access-point-What-can-I-do
  6. I got all my sexy new equipment in place to finally enjoy some high bandwidth 6e fun on my main rig only to be hit in the face with the shovel that is Microsoft, not "allowing" me to use my own friggin hardware on Windows 10. Last night I finally got my new Wifi 6E router, I set it up only to fight with it, struggling to connect to my 6ghz network. After some research I found that Microsoft, in their money grubbing wisdom decided that if you want to enjoy 6e speeds, you have to shell out for their new, horrible version of Windows. There's some hacks that purport to enable 6ghz support in Windows 10 via a registry edit but they don't work. Please someone tell me there's another way other than downgrading to Windows 11.
  7. I've heard some nasty things about vultr and Digital Ocean which kept me from really giving them a second look. I've been on Linode for 11 years also, but at this point I'll start looking again.
  8. Summary Akamai acquired Linode on February 15 2022. Today they've sent out the following email to all Linode users, hiking prices by 20% or more. Quotes My thoughts Everyone saw this coming when the buyout was announced last year it doesn't make it feel any better to get smacked with a 20% extra bill for the same old tired excuses as "tough financial climate and growing costs". As to why this is relevant to this particular crowd, Linode (Akamai), have been a large sponsor for tech channels in the past. I don't know if they've been a LTT Sponsor or not but I know they've sponsored L1Techs and a few other smaller tech channels. 9. What PCIE Wifi 6e cards are everyone using? I'm having an issue with my TP-Link AC1300, it has issues reconnecting to my router, it'll randomly choose which servers to respond to, and I'll start getting random DNS errors, or it'll load everything but images or I'll have to load a site twice as it'll error out with err_connection_failed. Then it'll decide it won't connect to my 5ghz network but it'll connect to the 2ghz network, or visa versa. Every other system in the house is having no issues so I have to assume it's my system that's at fault. Drivers are up to date, it's just being a general piece of crap. So I'm looking to upgrade, and I might as well go 6e while I'm at it. No my router isn't 6e, but that'll be the next upgrade anyway. Looking at Amazon/Newegg/what-have-you I see a bunch of no-name brands that look like fly-by-night chinese brands that'll be gone tomorrow. All of them probably using the same chip. So I thought I would ask if anyone has any affinity for a particular brand?
  10. Update: Well not only did my cleaning job not work but while testing the card, it managed to kill my system along with it. Stops at postcode 45 now even with the card removed even my backup card doesn't operate in it anymore. That's what I get for trying to repair my dead 980. Scratch that, the error indicated a memory issue. I pulled my ram, reseated it and finally got it to boot to the bios. I have successfully repaired the 980. But then I was unable to boot, it took me longer than I'd like to admit that I couldn't understand why I couldn't boot until finally realizing that resetting the bios, switched it out of AHCI mode. So yay, success! EDIT3: Pictures from the procedure including it running. ... Ignore dust.
  11. Oh, I see how it is. Scientists shoot lasers at airplanes giving them an internet connection is just fine but when I shoot lasers at airplanes I get arrested
  12. I am a professional web dev, I operate various websites for a local college. Your project is actually something that's somewhat close to something I'm working on. It's a secure way for a satellite office to share data with people at the main campus. Though it's not designed to require user accounts, and is designed to encrypt everything. I'd say this is a HUGE undertaking for someone with no practical programming experience, you may want to start with something smaller. If you're dead set on it though, I'd suggest looking into docker + laraval. You can set up a local development environment and go from there.
  13. Thank all of you for your comments, I'll update this thread with my success or failure.
  14. He turned the computer off immediately and pulled it from the system, that's the only thing that gives me hope that it might make it.
  15. I voted for the 10850k simply because right now it can be snagged for a song if you look hard enough. I bought mine for $320 a month ago after my i7 5820k died. The 5800 and the 10850k are neck and neck for a lot of benchmarks and trade blows in others. the 5800 is easier to cool and generally the motherboards are cheaper. I'd suggest getting whichever combination cpu/mobo is cheaper.
