  1. Ah, a Mac fanboy spotted. I don't know man, I get the same amount of work done on Windows, Linux and OS X... I'm not. Just being sarcastic. BSOD is a kernel panic and is just a term used for Windows. I have never got BSOD on Windows 8 and don't know anyone who has mostly because no one uses Win 8. So what now, Win is as stable OS X. No way... wait OS X is based on open source FreeBSD and just have a bunch of open source stuff preinstalled. Can't install custom window manager, stuck with graphic drivers provided by Apple, can't uninstall iTunes and a lot of other garbage and so on. It's as locked as Windows. Edit: almost forgot - it's hardware locked. Yes, there are Hackitoshs but it's still runs on limited set of hardware. I can say the same about Finder, "I can only avoid it entirely by adding another piece of software to an already relatively unstable platform to circumvent a "feature"" and it would cost me 50$. Shell is as efficient as on any Linux - there is no difference running bash on OS X or Ubuntu. Anyway I prefer ZSH. Yeah, and you can install Open/Libre office on Windows for as low price as on any other supported OS. MS Office is the best suite out there. And it is available on OSX. One of the most powerful Windows ecosystem features is Windows domain and there is no real alternatives for this as far as I know. And I think this is why businesses prefer Windows. P.S. OS wars FTW
  2. No, no, no. OSX must go down in that list. OSX has so many annoying stuff number one being Finder. It's my daily OS for about 2 years now but all I am using there is shell and whatever application I need. And it is crashing as hell, lots of not responding stuff. I suspect it's because of going from Lion to MT and then to Mavericks. I have had more BSOD than can remember having with XP. Anyway gaming on Windows, Linux for home server, Android on phone. Working on OSX, running web stuff mostly RHEL for servers. In the end choosing the best OS for the job is the way to go.
  3. I don't think this is really worth for home use. The power consumption must be huge compared to off the shelf solutions. To tinker with as always nice but running 24/7 router from old PC not that good idea. Basically spending bit more on better off the shelf router would be more cost efficient in long run or buying special hardware like those Alix boards. Just something to think about.
  4. This was great deal - bought this for 13,19€. Just one more turn... and there's 20 hours spent already on it
  5. For web developers this is one of the most used
  6. Doesn't this give you an old version of plex server? There was something wrong with their repos and by looking at the screenshots in second link it looks like that's an old version as the web UI has changed. This is how I do this on my Ubuntu server box, get the link from https://plex.tv/downloads and then ssh to server: wget http://downloads.plexapp.com/plex-media-server/0.9.9.12.504-3e7f93c/plexmediaserver_0.9.9.12.504-3e7f93c_amd64.debsudo dpkg -i plexmediaserver_0.9.9.12.504-3e7f93c_amd64.deb
  7. If this is just a fun project then building/using own server is ok but if it's more serious then I would think about using VPS.

  9. This just again proves that courts have no idea how internet works and this is basically opening door for censorship. I read somewhere that in first day there was 12k applications for this. The real information owners does not have any responsibility but Google have? This is just wrong. Of course it's so much easier to go after Google. Interesting why google couldn't just add some kind of time stamp, that "info updated 1999" or something along those lines in search results.
  10. As the sticker in picture say - World's 1st. IMHO it's all about marketing here.
  11. Not on Windows at the moment but Winamp has auto taging. It can download album arts but don't remember if auto taging did this automatically. But basically it's "Select all -> Send to > Auto-Tag" Anyway don't do this on entire library - you can mess things up pretty badly
  12. Russia is putting pressure on free internet lately. They got rid of Vkontakte founder and CEO Pavel Durov so now it looks like there is no one stopping the company to share data with government. http://globalvoicesonline.org/2014/04/21/so-long-mr-durov-and-thanks-for-all-the-fish Total control of media is getting back in business there.
  13. If this bill gets approved which most likely will then every blogger with 3k readers will have to register with Roskomnadzor. Also bloggers must reveal their surname, initials, and email address. As a response Yandex already have decided to discontinue its ranking system for bloggers. http://globalvoicesonline.org/2014/04/19/bad-news-worse-news-for-russian-internet-users/
  14. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2014/04/wild-heart-were-intelligence-agencies-using-heartbleed-november-2013 I bet Intelligence Agencies was getting their hands on this. Maybe there's even bigger conspiracy behind this as the bad code was commited in New Years eve so no one notices... lol
  15. I guess you have tried reseting bios... If that doesn't help, I have seen that something like broken HDD detection freezes bios, so try unplugging stuff one by one.
  16. Are you sure? After quick googling it seems the that windows should detect the raid setup after reinstall. Never used it so don't know but it then sounds just pointless.
  17. This is just crazy - home made freon cooling
  18. Maybe it's bind to old routers MAC address?
  19. Referendum in Crimea is such BS, Russian citizens are allowed to vote there... not even talking that it's illegal in the first place.
