  1. TL;DR looks like it is Adrenalin 24.1.1 at fault. Because I had a gift card for Amazon, I decided to upgrade my boot drive and the exact same thing happened again after installing Adrenalin 24.1.1. Installed 10 fresh, worked perfectly fine on whatever basic default VGA drivers Windows has, then after installing 24.1.1 the exact same thing happened all over again. I managed to DDU it again and then install 23.12.1 (not the most intuitive way to find old drivers) and that seems to work just fine now. On the AMD subreddit's tech support pinned thread, I found at least one other person reporting the same thing.
  2. I was able to load into safe mode by holding shift and clicking restart on the screen before login and then I was able to run DDU, but after it auto restarted when it was done, now I can't even open Brave anymore. Now I can open file explorer (it takes a minute between clicking on the icon and when the window pops up), but that's about all I can do now.
  3. Cannot do anything in Windows anymore as once I'm logged in, the PC practically immediately stops responding to inputs. The only thing that happens is that a window appears for ASRock Polychrome Sync starting. Occasionally, Win + R can bring up the run window, but I haven't found anything that I can get to start using it, the window closes and no program starts. I've restarted multiple times and sometimes Win + R does come up, other times it does nothing. One weird exception is if I immediately click on Brave from the task bar, it will restore my last session and the last tab I had open on each window open and actually seem to work fine, but if I try to navigate to other tabs on that window or try to open a new tab/window, they don't work. Before this, it was working fine, and then I updated AMD graphics drivers and it prompted me to restart, and after that is when it started. I've tried leaving it running, waiting to see if anything ever starts up or if I'm able to launch anything, but the only thing that ever happens is the Polychrome startup window does eventually go away. My boot SSD is an ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro, and is coming up on 5 years old, so I'm kinda wondering if that's what's failing on me Specs: Windows 10 Pro, unsure of exact version number but it's up to date Ryzen 7 5700G ASRock Fatal1ty X470 Gaming K4 Radeon RX6900XT G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4 4x8GB 3200MHz CL16 ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 512GB Corsair RM1000X Custom loop cooling
  4. Never got that drive to work. Returned to store.
  5. Fooling around, I figured out I can get into BIOS with the drive in the SATA M.2 slot, but the drive doesn't show up while I'm in BIOS.
  6. This is my parents' office PC, but it's also running my Plex server. I built it out of some of my old components after upgrading and then buying a couple of other components to upgrade them from their old Dell Optiplex (was a 1st gen Intel Core i3, I forget exactly which one). It's been running fine for about 2-3 years now, aside from the drive. The PC also has a 1TB HDD that's storing pretty much anything on the PC (pics, music, docs), and a 6TB HDD for my Plex server, but I've disconnected those to make sure they weren't causing any issues, plus I like having only the drive I intend to put windows on connected to the PC so I don't accidentally format or try to put Windows onto the wrong drive The SSD that I'm replacing is an Adata SU800 256 GB 2.5" SSD, but when the board was in my system I used it with an Adata XPG SX6000 128GB M.2 Gen 3x2, so I know that Ultra M.2 slot worked back then, I just didn't feel like paying NVME prices back then.
  7. CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X Mobo: ASRock AB350 Pro4 GPU: PNY GTX 1060 3GB PSU: PowerSpec 500W (Micro Center house brand) RAM: G.SKill 2x8GB 3200 MHz CL16 SSD: Inland TN450 500GB (PCIE gen 4x4) System was mostly working fine, though CrystalDiskMark identified my boot drive as failing. I went to Micro Center to get a new SSD and this was the best deal, and they had no PCIE gen 3 NVME drives there anyway. I bought it figuring it would be fine but run at PCIE gen 3 speeds. My motherboard has 2 M.2 drive slots, one marked "Ultra M.2" and is rated for PCIE Gen 3 speeds, the other unmarked but rated for SATA 3 speeds. Plugged into the Ultra M.2 slot, upon boot it will show ASRock in the middle of the screen with the keyboard shortcuts in the bottom right and never progress past that, and pressing any of the keys does nothing either. If I take the drive out, the shortcuts work again and if I press nothing it goes right into BIOS after a few seconds. Put the SSD back in and it goes back to stuck at ASRock.
  8. I made my own office chair mat out of a sheet of 3/8" plywood, 1x2 pine for the border, and peel and stick vinyl tiles. My desk's legs are spaced 3' 3.5" apart, so the 3 square tiles plus the boarder fits perfectly between them. Since I had the material, I made it 6' long to give me slightly more room to roll back, as well as to go all the way to the wall. Only thing I would do differently would be using higher quality plywood than what Home Depot sells. (Plywood there was grade C, and I can sometimes feel voids inside it when I roll over them) My costs were roughly $60 USD, which is what I paid for my 3'x4' polycarbonate mat ($24 for plywood, $30 for tiles, $6 for three 1x2s, but tax might put it slightly over that)
  9. I've been using a cushion for the last few years. Problem is finding the right cushion in the right size. Like I said, I'm a 3XL size and every time I try a new cushion, it's too small I've been using a Sharper Image gel cushion that I loved, but it lasts roughly 2 years and even if I wanted to replace it, it's discontinued. I originally got it 4 years ago at Sam's Club, that one broke down enough that it wasn't supportive anymore and found there were a few left on Amazon, but they're out there now, too. They also have an issue where the texture on the bottom wears out fairly quickly, and I remedy that by putting grip tape on the bottom in its place, but that seems to wear out, too. I've tried the "egg sitter" style of honeycomb gel cushions that seem to be the new hotness, but I did not find them comfortable long-term.
  10. This is the foam available at Joanne Fabrics. https://www.joann.com/airtex-3in-x-24in-high-density-foam-sheet/2162279.html
  11. This is the chair I have currently https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IIFW2L4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  12. I've been contemplating replacing the cushion in my office chair. I really like the Amazon basics chair I already have, aside from the lack of cushion in the seat. I've looked around and haven't found any chair I actually like that fits within my budget, whether at Sam's Club, Costco, Office Max/Depot, or the used office supply store near me. I'm aiming to keep it under $100. Craigslist and FB market are severely lacking in my area, haven't found anything there. I'm a 3XL kinda guy, and nothing I've found actually has appealed to me yet. Everything is either not cushioned enough or it's too narrow. I'm also not a fan of leather, I prefer fabric or mesh. I'm not really sure what kind of foam to get, or where to get it. I've looked on Amazon and from the little I know I can tell its selection is terrible. Cushion dimensions are approximately 20"x20", and thickness with the base is 2.5-3" Locally, I don't have many craft stores that actually seem to carry upholstery foam. Hobby Lobby and Michael's either don't have anything, or if they do it's online not in store near me. JoAnn Fabrics does carry foam, but they only have 1 type (green high density polyurethane) with varying sizes available. (No locally owned craft stores near me that actually carry this kind of merchandise, everything that shows up are glorified custom vinyl cutting shops) I really haven't found many people doing the same, and the ones I have found aren't great on the details. I've posted in r/DIY and the only response I got was to try r/upholstery instead, which got nothing. I've done some looking and have questions about what type of foam to use. Stuff listed on Amazon is lacking in the details, and
  13. I'm just getting started with virtualization for running 32-bit XP for retro gaming, so please forgive me if I get anything wrong or miss anything obvious. I'm using Windows's Hyper-V, I have the XP ISO loaded and I cannot get audio out. Because I need 32-bit OS, I chose Generation 1 in the settings, and everything I can google relating to troubleshooting relates to either Generation 2 VMs or non-virtual XP. I've been through the settings and figured out how to pass through my DVD drive, but didn't see anything related to audio there.
  14. Honestly feel like this is the wrong move. This story is blowing up, and your response is buried in the forums or in other private communications? Honestly, how many eyes is a forum post going to be in front of versus a "mea culpa" segment on WAN show? Either make a dedicated video or put it up as a main topic on WAN show. Call up Steve and invite him on for a discussion. Or maybe even the Billet Labs guys to make this right.
  15. I realized the problem, and it wasn't the graphics card. It was the monitor settings. I updated MSI's control software and the profile that it chose had the sharpness set to 3 out of 5 and now everything looks better after changing it to 0.
  16. Recently upgraded from a GTX 1080 to an RX 6900XT, and ever since there have been a few things that don't look just right. Most obviously, text looks terrible, mostly in Chrome and mostly in dark mode, but is evident in some light mode sites and in iTunes as well. Looks fine in file explorer, WordPad, and Foxit PDF reader. I was able to make it look a little better by changing fonts in the Chrome settings page, but not everything looks better. I did run DDU after installing the card to purge my boot drive of Nvidia's software and installed Adrenalin. I have played around with Microsoft's ClearType and got it to look a little bit better. This is my first experience with AMD GPUs, I've been using Nvidia since my first build 5 years ago. I don't know if there's some setting in Adrenalin that I'm missing, or some other setting elsewhere I haven't had to think about in the last 5 years Windows 10 22H2 Ryzen 7 5700G Asrock X470 Gaming K4 Fatal1ty 4x8GB 3200MHz Trident Z RGB DDR4 Radeon RX 6900 XT MSI MAG271CQR 27" 1440p 144Hz gaming monitor
  17. Never did resolve the issue. Tried updating Armoury Crate again but still wouldn't recognize GPU. Problem is no more after upgrading to a reference RX 6900 XT.
  18. Still haven't resolved. But that's on me. I've kinda put this on the backburner since posting. Probably should just contact Asus customer support at some point but I've been busy working on setting up a Plex server
  19. Testing the "wrong" hard drives for gaming PCs. Normal hard drives vs Performance vs NAS vs Surveillance vs Enterprise. Not sure if this is a Tech Quickie or enough for a full LTT vid
  20. GTX 1080 Strix, and Armory Crate will not detect my GPU any longer. Windows 10 22H2, with everything up to date. I've had it for 3, maybe 3.5 years now. Prior to this week, I didn't have any issues. I've uninstalled the program both through Windows and using Asus's uninstaller tool and reinstalled it, and it still tells me "no devices available." It's not even finding my Trident Z RGB memory like it used to, but Polychrome does detect those and I have them turned off that way. Tried both the full and the lite programs, but the full program makes you select your Asus device during setup and had no option for GPUs Other than Armory Crate, I have Asrock Polychrome Sync for my motherboard and Razer Synapse for my mouse and keyboard, but I've had those installed the whole time and haven't had problems with that before.
  21. I really like the design and colors of the LTT water bottles, but I really prefer using a Yeti clone tumbler instead. Ever since they started releasing the clones, I used the 30 oz size up until late last year I started using 40 oz ones.
  22. TL;DR Would you rather have 32 GB at slower speed or 16 GB at 3200MHz Relevant Specs: Ryzen 7 2700X Asrock X470 Gaming K4 G.Skill Trident Z RGB 2/4 x 8 GB 3200 MHz CL16 (16-18-18-38) My PC as it sits has 2x8GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB. Wanted to upgrade to 32 GB for Chrome reasons. Went on sale for Black Friday for $65.69 and my mom put it away for me for Christmas, so I didn't get around to installing them until after Christmas, but Newegg's return policy allows for returns through January 31st for items bought from Newegg and not 3rd party sellers. For Christmas this year, I got a matching kit to bump it up to 32 GB, but when I booted it up it started blue screening as soon as I loaded into Windows. Cleared CMOS to clear the XMP settings and it boots fine at stock speed. Reenabled XMP (ASRock UEFI specifically refers to it as XMP settings) and BSOD returned. Posted to a facebook group and some people said the issue could be mismatched DRAM chips, but as far as I can tell they're all Samsung B-dies. Looked closer at the motherboard manual and the max it "officially" supports is 2667 single channel or 2133 dual channel in four slots. I've successfully run dual channel (slots A2/B2) at 3200 MHz so by that logic I would guess I could maybe run memory in 4 slots at 2667. I haven't tried messing with it in a week, but maybe hopefully I could get it to get it to run at 3000 MHz, but I recognize that might not work. I've also gotten some recommendations to try overvolting the memory, but I've never messed with manually overclocking RAM, just clicking the XMP profile.
  23. For Christmas this year, I got (at least what I think is) an identical memory kit to the one I've got in my PC already and it's not working great. G.Skill Trident Z RGB, 2x8GB, 3200 MHz, 16-18-18-38 Only difference as far as I can see myself is my original kit was manufactured September 2020 and the new kit was November 2020. When I went to plug in the new kit, it runs OK before enabling XMP/DOCP or manually setting the speed to 3200. As soon as I enable XMP or try to set to advertised speed, at best it will boot into Windows before BSOD, or it will start to boot loop and I'll have to clear CMOS to reset the speed to stock. I've tested the new kit by itself and it works perfectly fine.(Slots A2/B2 for dual channel per manual) I've tried both running the old kit in slots A2/B2 and new in A1/B1, I've tried new in A1/A2 and old in B1/B2 and vice versa. I have a feeling my CPU might just not let me run 4x8GB at at that speed. Digging into my mobo manual says max it supports for Summit Ridge is 2667 single channel, 2667 for dual channel 2 slot, 1866-2133 for dual channel 4 slot. Assuming I can OC to 2667 (+/- 600 MHz over "max supported") would you rather run 16GB at 3200 or 32GB at 2667? Just for gaming, but wanted more capacity for Chrome reasons.
