  1. Yeah.... the article is in french... but it's happening in Quebec, so what did you expect?.. Basically, the Quebec Superior Court authorized a class action against Apple. The people who started the procedure evoked (among other things) planned obsolescence and unfair warranty service, which is expensive and has no benefits over the base legal warranty in Quebec. Google translate actually did a pretty got job in making it readable in English, so you can give it a try: https://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/1226174/cour-superieure-quebec-autorise-action-collective-apple?fbclid=IwAR2nfP3YoDULxddJfsPmzzwjo31kKmexGnmpLyMQqeTxyCCe6ZwTt05t4Ug Radio-Canada is the name of the news network affiliated to CBC in Quebec. CBC is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Canada's national public broadcaster. EDIT : English translation here: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1083743-quebec-superior-court-authorizes-class-action-against-apple/?tab=comments#comment-12730172 Thanks to @wkdpaul for providing a translation of the article.
  2. seems like a reasonable workload for that hardware. You can first check your in-game resolution, set it lower than your screen resolution (something like 720p is perfect for the purpose of this test). If you see an increase of FPS, your system is bottlenecked by your GPU. Otherwise, you might be bottlenecked by your CPU.
  3. What are your specs (CPU, GPU and Resolution) and what games are you trying to play? Were they playing properly before?
  4. But if you had one, would you use it, that's one of the reasons for the second option "Maybe want to use, depends on what I can find"
  5. I just have a Bluray drive, since it can read and write DVDs as well, I gave my DVD drive to my brother.
  6. I am starting considering building a smaller PC with my Bluray Drive for my lounge and using the 5.25' drive bay for my all-in-one 5.25 module to keep my card reader and internals monitor. It looks like smaller cases tend to have more 5.25 drive bays. now I just need to find a case with a single 5.25 bay that is no too ugly
  7. I'm having a hard time finding an enclosure like this loll
  8. I'm having a hard time with "removing the picture" from the quote too XD
  9. the "voted no" option wasn't there before, so some of the people that voted no voted for "other" probably
  10. Unfortunately, 75 voters are far from being representative of the overall computer case customer base, but I think the tendency is rather interesting... If we take into account that some people skip over the topic, at least 75 people did care about the topic and about giving their opinion and/or thoughts. I don't know the number of people browsing the forum daily, but if the number is around 1500 daily users, that means about 5% of the active forum members did care enough to vote. My estimation might be way over or way under estimating, so... well more or less 50% estimation is ok I guess... ?
  11. Yeah, I know, I'll probably be saving money for the actual monitor though hahaha
  12. I'll admit I didn't think about a second monitor. Up until recently, all my computer related stuff was cramped on/around my desk (pc on the floor next to my feet, printer on the desk, monitor stand with my monitor and some storage below) so I never had enough place for a second monitor... Might be about to change as I now have a house and a dedicated office for my computer.
  13. I get your points, but I'd like to bring some nuances : To me, the point of having an internal stats monitor on the front of my case is exactly so that I don't need software and close my game or minimize it when I want to see the stats, they are just there, waiting to be read. (Along with the fact I am a gadget nerd and I love the look of a well-designed monitor of that kind on a case) I personally don't like dongles, so if I need a card reader, I'd prefer it to be integrated into my case: it avoids having a messy desktop with all the dongles I would need for the cards I use and if I ever move my pc, I don't forget anything, it just follows. The same argument would apply to my Bluray drive. I watch BluRays rather regularly as it is my only BluRay reader (less expensive and I can then copy the movie to my raspberry pi in the lounge if I want to watch the movie somewhere else) As for the rest, I agree, the other options are sufficient to me, but I can imagine some use cases requiring more USB ports on the front of the computer or controlling the fan manually instead of having to change the profile in software for the fans or the lighting of the case.
  14. Cool, I read stuff I didn't know was available for the 5.25 bay!
  15. Interesting results so far! Please share this poll with your friends, the more data it get, the more relevant its results are.
  16. I'll try to edit the poll, you're right. EDIT : well... that was easy...
  17. Good point, I'll admit I don't use those since larger devices mean they can pack more stuff in it, but I can see people using 3.5 drive bays or adapters. ... that said... I just remembered I am using my 3.5 bay as a dual SSD drive bay (I DIYed an old floppy disk drive and repurposed the case to fit 2 SSDs)
  18. didn't see that coming hahaha. Maybe I'll start a poll later on the 3.5 floppy drive bay
  19. Since a while now, we see fewer and fewer case manufacturers include 5.25 External drive bays in their cases. And a lot of PC users don't seem to want those bays anymore, but there seems to still be some customers for 5.25 devices. I actually use two (a bluray drive and an all in one [temperature monitor - memory card reader - fan controller - external sata port - additional USB 3 ports]), but I was wondering if I was alone, so out of pure curiosity, I am starting a poll on that subject and hope to start a discussion on what you think the future of the 5.25 bay is.
  20. I just updated my review. Turns out I forgot to talk about the magnet capabilities to hold their grip at an angle.
  21. well... I mean, you can try yourself, - worst case scenario : you can give us your feed back - best case scenario : You have a new monitor for your rig.
  22. I have the feeling the experience would be similar to Linus's in his last video : the monitor might have dead pixels already and the product basically would be pretty bad, but since it's on the cheap, you don't feel so bad...
  23. https://free-buy-home.myshopify.com/products/xsq My brother asked me about this site and honestly, I don't know what to think about it. It looks too much of a good "deal" to be true. I never heard of the monitor manufacturer, never heard of the website and the deal goes from 239$ to only 49$.... What are your thoughts? I just want to start a discussion here, so I will keep my suspicions for now.
  24. The concept of the product is probably a well know one within this community but basically, they sell phone charging cables where the connector tip and the cable are separated and connect together with magnets. I could test first hand these awesome cables along with different options I could find on massdrop (v3 plugies) and amazon (First2savvv) and here's my personal thoughts about those products. Before I go with my review of the 3 options, note that all 3 support bidirectional plugging and data transfer and boast to support fast-charging, like most magnet cables on the market. First, the cheapest option : First2savvv is a company based in china that sells pretty much a knockoff version of Volta's cables. The magnet connector is similar (basically the same as I can use them interchangeably) and the options are the same as Volta's. The cables support fast-charge when the LED faces the same way as the screen, they are braided as well and have pretty much the same feel than Volta albeit being slightly more flimsy. The difference with this one is that sweet sweet price tag : 20.98$ CAD for a pair of cable and connector. The connection can easily disconnected if the cable tilts, so you can barely lift your phone and I would recommend to lie the phone on a flat surface or have a kickstand to be able to give a bit of a vertical angle to strengthen the magnet's connection. The cables were sent in a thick felt envelope with an elastic band to close it. It didn't feel cheap nor premium, but it was a nice touch to have a good reception experience. My only issue with this company is that the right angled cable do not fit the plugs for the straight cables making this company actually two options at a time... You either get a straight cable or a right angled one, but both are hardly compatible. The magnets are also on the fragile side. I dropped my phone from a foot high and managed to break the connector. Their return policy is acceptable and they have a limited warranty of 18 months. Now comes the middle range. I bought the v3 plugies on Massdrop for 31.88$ USD (41.71$ CAD at the time of purchase) with an additional cable. The cable supports bidirectional connection with it's 5 pin cable and 5 pin connector tip configuration. The connector is kind of ugly looking on a device though since the connection part is sort of a notch sticking out of the magnet by about 1mm. The connection with the magnets is strong enough when the cable still lies on a surface, but if the edge of the surface, the weight of the cable may sometimes disconnect the cable from the connector. The cables are braided and solid and have a beautiful and shiny silver color if you're into it. I could select between micro-usb / usb type c / lightning connectors and like I said, there was an option to add a cable. On the website, there is an option for a right angled cable which seems to be totally compatible with their straight version, but I can't test them. I could find no warranty information whatsoever either on the massdrop page nor on the website, so I would assume their offer is either similar to first2savvv or inexistant in that matter for now. I didn't like them much compared to the First2savvv cables, so I gave them to my mother and she is using on her tablet and she does like the product. Their main strong point compared to the other ones though is that it have a really good grip even if the cable dangles with an angle. Finally comes the main attraction : Volta. Those cable cost 23.00$ USD (31.02$ CAD) for a single cable with 2 connector tips with an option to add a cable for 16$ USD (for a total of 52.59$ CAD). That price tag is justified by their lifetime warranty where you only pay for shipping fees (other conditions apply, but most of the time, you pay for shipping each first time you replace something). the rest is basically the same as First2Savvv, but a little better: Bidirectional 5 pin cables on a 10 pin magnet connector tip, same 3 connector options, braided cables, fast charge support, interchangeability between the connector tips and both the right angled cable and straight cable. They also have a super nice customer service since they have an actual web site unlike first2savvv which will communicate through amazon. My only complain is that it had pretty much the same issue than First2savvv's cable : the magnet has a hard time holding its grip when the force applied to the cable is not absolutely straight inline with the connector. The connection is stronger than First2savvv's, but the cable still disconnects if it does not lie on a flat surface or if it doesn't have a vertical angle. Bottom line, Are the Volta cable a scam compared to other options? I'd say no. You pay a bigger price for a bigger user experience. Buying from first2savvv will save you a buck, but with their shorter warranty and slightly lower product quality for their connector, you may end up buying more cables rather than cheaply replacing your faulty parts, which may result in a higher amount of many spent. I also broke 2 connectors from my First2savvv set and when I came to buy the tips, I HAD to buy the cables as well, so there is no replacement options here. Volta has a better customer service and more flexibility for your orders and you pay for both the product and the customer experience. For the Plugies, I didn't like them but my mother did, so basically it depends on your personal taste, but don't rely on the computer generated pictures where the connector is flat, the connection part is not and you can see actual pictures of the connector on the product page. first2savvv : amazon canada amazon US (I could only find the straight cable on the US site and there seem to only have a USB type C connector option. Maybe wil will have more time or luck than me to check) Plugies : Massdrop official plugies website Volta : Volta official website Note : All prices above include taxes and shipping fees if applicable (shown price is actual price I paid) I will update this review in a while, I just got my fast-charging block and I could not test the fast-charge support for the cables yet.
