  1. Honestly, I wouldn’t take that chance. If it is a defected fan in the long run things might bottom out real fast. Even if temps are normal now, a flawed fan is still a flawed fan and I would absolutely RMA it. Having good solid working fans for a non watercooled GPU are vital. I know having to rma is a pain but you don’t want to be stuck with a defected rattling GPU. Find out if it’s a fan problem first then go from there. Good luck
  2. Hey everyone. So I’ve been getting that upgrade itch again, and I’m really struggling with the decision to bite the bullet and do it or don’t. Right now I have an i7 2600k OC’d to 4.4ghz. It’s been a real champ of a chip and is still solid but I feel it’s definitely getting up there in age. I was wondering if upgrading to an 8700k would be worth it. It would cost about $750 ish dollars on Newegg after new mobo, ram and obviously the cpu. I play games and do not do any content creation, streaming or editing. I’m just really stumped because it’s a nice chunk of money and I’m not sure if it’s entirely worth it. Any opinions and help would be (as always) appreciated. You all are really helpful and I value the advice given here. Thanks also GPU is a GTX 1080 and I game at 1440p.
  3. What I am curious about is with Ampere coming in the very near future, how will that affect production for Pascal? Since supply certainly doesn’t meet demand at this moment, with the new architecture coming will they still be producing 10 series, especially if these cards get flooded on eBay for extremely discounted prices? Obviously it will slow down, but I hope not too much where it’s still impossible to purchase a 10 series unless second hand.
  4. I agree. You might make enough money after electricity bill to fill up a half a tank of gas, but aside from that it’s really not worth it IMO.
  5. If you can find a 980ti from a trusted reliable source for a good price, possibly go with that option. Especially with the upcoming release of the gtx 20 cards, maybe wait it out? If you’re die hard AMD and know this card will last you a while, go for it. If you don’t care if it’s amd or nvidia, maybe buy a 980ti (or if you game at 1080p a 970.) I had a 970 and let me tell you that card was really solid. either way, it’s your money and you do whatever will make you happy. Good luck
  6. I have a i7 2600k OC to 4.4GHz paired with a GTX 1080 and so far it’s been fine with no issues. Don’t underestimate this warrior of a CPU, although definitely starting to show its age is still solid. I do know that I’m only going to get maybe two more years out of it if I’m very lucky but the price it would cost to upgrade right now (ram, mobo and obviously cpu) isn’t worth it in my opinion at this moment. Hopefully he can hold out just a bit longer
  7. No. Not at all. I went from a 970 to a 1080 and while the 1080 is obviously better by comparison, I will say my 970 was one strong little ninja. If you can hold out (hopefully not too much longer) then I’d say just be patient. It’s weird because my Microcenter (Brooklyn) has GTX 1080s in stock as I type this for $700. The g1 gaming editions. If you’re in the tristate area maybe go check them out? You can chose the route of getting a pre built and there’s some okay bundle deals going on but either buy a used 970 to hold you over or just wait it out. I just can’t recommend ever going to console after experiencing PC gaming, even if it’s significantly cheaper and readily available.
  8. Thank you very much everyone. My gut is telling me 1440p and so I’m going to say final answer to that one. I’d love to get the best of both worlds but unfortunately since I don’t have a money tree growing in the back I am limited to what I can comfortably spend. Also, I really wanted an IPS panel so that makes my decision even more solid.
  9. I know this question exists but I feel for my own personal needs and what I do play I felt it warranted me asking this question but I do apologize. I have a GTX 1080 FTW and what I have now is a standard 1080p 60hz monitor. My question is what would you all recommend for me personally? It’s between 1080p 144hz or 1440p 60hz. Yes I know I can get 1440p 144hz but between the two I did mention, what do you suggest? I don’t play FPS games. I play mostly survival/horror games like The Forest, 7 days to die, Subsistence, the long dark, neo scavenger, this war of mine, don’t starve, stranded deep, project zomboid, state of decay 2, dead rising, dark wood, path of exile, Skyrim modded occasionally and various Horror games. It’s pretty much all single player as well and I don’t play any VR. As for price range, I can’t really shell out a kidney so something reasonably priced would be ideal. Based on the games I like any input for monitors would be a tremendous help. Thanks in advance
