  1. I've managed to get my hands on a Koolance CPU-380A block for an AMD Socket G34 but it's a dual socket system and I need 2 of these. The blocks are EOL and nobody seems to sell them and I got the LAST one on eBay. Anyone have any leads on where I could get one more?
  2. I've read that Fold@Home has a VMWare client but it lists vCenter as a requirement. Is there anything out there if I just have a standalone ESXI host?
  3. Downgrading to the initial ESXi 6.7 release fixed this issue.
  4. Okay this is a weird one. I am reconfiguring my ESXi 6.7.0 Update 2 (Build 13006603) host to run the OS on a small flash drive instead of a SATA hard drive so I can keep it separate from my datastore. All of my VMs are migrated and stored on a new hard drive. I then plug in a 64GB USB 3.0 drive and am able to install ESXi on it. The problem is now that when I reboot the system, ESXi seems to reset to factory settings. All of my settings go away including my VMWare license key, my created users, my VM registrations, and my management network settings. It reverts from Static to DHCP and resets the hostname and DNS configuration. This problem never occurred when ESXi was installed on a SATA drive (which was running 6.7 [not Update 2]) but has consistently reverted all of these settings on reboot since migrating to the flash drive. Anyone else ever experience this? Am I better off using a smaller SATA drive to store ESXi on if it avoids this problem or is this an indication of something else?
  5. Lately in my work environment, we've been seeing a ton of disk usage due to Windows 10 updates stalling. Check out your Windows Updates in Settings and see if there's a ton of stuff trying to install and either failing or just sitting idle while saying "Pending Install". If this is the case, open Services and stop the Windows Update and Update Orchestrator services. Then you can open C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and delete all the contents. Then you can run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and it should restart these services and go look for updates again. If it worked, then disk usage should be substantially lower or at least not constantly at 95-100%.
  6. I recently took my Late 2012 Mac Mini containing a Crucial 240gb SSD and a WD Slim 1tb HDD and formatted them both as one Fusion drive. I then reinstalled macOS Sierra (10.12.6), then downloaded and ran the Mojave upgrade (10.14.2). I've been told that Mojave is the first OS to support fusion drives on APFS. The upgrade completed but I am noticing some MAJOR problems. There are times where Finder will lock up on startup for about 20 minutes. Deleting the com.apple.Finder.plist file in /Library/Preferences and rebooting seems to have fixed that. Keyboard input is also erratic and will ignore some keystrokes entirely (using a Logitech K750), something that NEVER happened on 10.12. There were several occasions when Logic Pro X would crash and then macOS would throw an error upon trying to open it again saying "This application is not compatible with your computer". The same thing happens with Firefox and Safari, a native macOS app! Rebooting fixes these issues temporarily. I'm aware Mojave does not support 32-bit apps but none of these applications are. This past evening, when leaving the machine idle, upon returning home, I find that it has auto-rebooted and launched the drive selection screen, without anybody present to hold down the Option key. I have yet to run hardware diagnostics or boot into Safe Mode. I can post those results when I have them. Do any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone and is there really anything I can do given my hardware (specs posted below)? I would really like to keep this fusion drive setup for the storage and ease of use but I don't know if sticking with Mojave (and by extension, APFS) is worth it. My data is backed up and I have no issues reformatting the drive with HFS+ and reinstalling 10.12 if that's the best thing to do. Does anybody have any insight into the advantages of APFS on fusion drives and whether or not I should even TRY making this work? Mac Mini (Late 2012) 2.5 GHz i5 16 GB 1600MHz DDR3 Fusion Drive (240GB Crucial SSD + 1TB WD HDD)
  7. I ran the Ubuntu 18.04 VM with 6.5 compatibility instead of 6.7 and it is behaving normally.
  8. I have not tried "Linux 64bit other" I used Ubuntu 64 bit for the Ubuntu VM and CentOS 75 x64 for CentOS. I will try using the other option.
  9. I also use the Dell S2417DG and it is a great choice for a monitor. I wouldn't say that you won't EVER have issues with tearing but that depends on which GPU you get. That being said, I use an 8GB GTX 1080 in my rig and I'm very happy with the results (I run two 1080p monitors in addition to the 1440p one). I would say if you are looking at a 1070 Ti, spring for the 1080 (I was able to get mine for $370 on Amazon) or a 1080 Ti if you can find one in your budget. You can squeeze more performance out of it for not that much more money (depending on where you shop). And with cryptocurrency mining starting to fall out of fashion, cards are starting to get cheaper! Streaming and video editing are going to depend both on your CPU and your GPU. The GPU will help encode actual video but your CPU is doing most of the actual number crunching. The 6 cores on your Ryzen 5 ought to do a good enough job.
  10. So I have assembled a machine that I am using as a VMWare ESXI (v 6.7) host. I have successfully installed a Windows 10 VM on said host and it powers on and runs as one would expect. I then attempted a Ubuntu VM (18.04) and it successfully installs but after about a minute of uptime after the initial installation, the VM suddenly powers off and any attempts to power it on again result in this error: "The operation is not allowed in the current state". The current state is Powered Off. My Windows 10 VM still works just fine. I've tried Ubuntu 18.04 as well as CentOS 7.5 and get the same result after creating VMs using both. Any ideas here?
  11. I'm currently debating whether or not to get a smart watch, specifically an Apple one, as I am an iPhone user. I'm aware of the basic features such as receiving notifications, health monitoring, GPS, etc but my phone can do all of these things regardless. Does anyone that owns a smart watch (not just the Apple variety) find that it has significantly improved your productivity by saving you precious seconds normally spent pulling your phone out of your pocket? I know I sound like I've made up my mind but I'm mainly curious about a largely enthusiast community's opinion on watches. And are there any cheaper options that get the job done that interface well with iOS?
