The company I work for have in the last month, migrated their on-premise email to 365 email services.Relatively small company with just over 100 employees.
For desktop and laptops, we have an internal domain, which is used for device authentication and vpn.Every 90 days our AD policy requires users to reset their password.
For pc and laptop users, both local and remote, because their kit has been added to our domain, the password change isn't too much of a problem.
However for mobile users, on android and iOS devices, using a mix of outlook app and built in email app, changing password becomes quite a manual fair, especially since some have multiple mobile devices (iPad, iPhone etc)
The password change date causes frequent account lockouts because the 365 domain controller also replicates with our internal domain controller, and when users for example change their password on their desktop pc, account locks quickly happened when they haven't manually changed their mobile device password!
Would products like Microsoft Intune MDM be the logical solution for the above? What kind of pricing would we be looking at if so?
One caveat is that we dont currently have the option / service to allow users to reset their password via the web / 365

Any recommendations on apps / processes for quickly setting up a windows 10 box as a webdav file server?
Would prefer an app, but am open to suggestions

When COVID lockdown first hit, the company I work for was in the same situation... in that we needed machines which could quickly remote into office based PC's
We snagged a ton of Chromebook's which were perfect for remote access

I've been both an Android and iPhone user for some time now and when I'm out and about, switch between my S21 ultra and iPhone 12 pro max
However when it comes to making contactless payments, the iPhone wins hands down!
When I say "wins" am talking about general reliability of the NFC payment
So for example, when I make a contactless payment with my iPhone, its gets within about an inch from the payment scanner and boom force feedback indicates the payment has been made!
Now with androids in general, you almost have to mush the phone right on top of the payment scanner and do an awkward rub up and down until it scans and takes payment
Anyone else noticed this discrepancy between iPhone and android contactless payments in general?
A question as well, is do apple pay contactless payments use a different type of technology to android or is it all NFC chip based?

Picked up an Apple Thunderbolt Display 27" earlier today for a steal of a price
Anyone got any recommended adapters to output to it from my MacBook Air M1
Would presume I need to snag a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt adapter, however I know from past experience that display adapters are a minefield
Any recommendations peeps?

How are these systems managed? You can push down group policy to do this over ad or azure ad.
Id learn power shell, it seems to be where microsoft is moving things.
Everyone authenticates to domain via pc's and laptops already joined to the domain, and connect via MERAKI vpn
Normally we can do most stuff from the msc snap ins, however some users have these blocked via software firewalland yeah GPO updates are a possibility but prefer more granular tweaks.

I know you can use powershell to instigate remote windows firewall changes, however was wondering if anyone know of a GUI tool to perform this task.
As most of our users are working remotely nowadays, there is the odd occasion where we need to change remote machines local firewall entries.
Again I know this can be done in POWERSHELL however its too fiddly and was wondering whether there was a GUI tool?

Purchased several domain names from 123-reg.co.uk
and want to point one to my home Synology NAS.
I will admit am completely n00b when it comes to domain management and need some assistance
Whats confusing me is the myriad of options / prerequisites available which kinda relate to re-diverting domain name traffic.
On the 123-reg domain management page there is everything from Domain mapping, manage dns (A, MX, CNAME), change namer severs (DNS)
and that's just on the settings on the company I purchased the domains from,
Once I've figured out how to re-point my domain to my NAS (have a fixed IP address) then need to figure out how to allow the domain traffic to be accepted by the NAS.
Can anyone give me some step by step guidance please?
EDIT. - This guide is pretty much what Im trying to achieve, however most of it is a tad vague
https://myrandomthoughts.co.uk/2014/12/access-your-synology-with-your-own-domain-name/
SECOND EDIT - Updated the A, and CNAME records to my fixed ISP address and sorted

Had this Seagate external 8tb drive for just over 4 years plugged into the USB port of my NAS to extend the storage
Model Number: STDT8000200
It started making a clicking noise the other day, so inserted into the HD caddy and same problem.
Anyone got any out of the box thinking tips to bring this back to life so I can get data off it?
I read a post of someone stating to put it in the freezer with the intention to free up the head with the cold...

I don't understand the setup.
You have an Azure VM which has configuration for a Meraki client VPN. Correct? So on that VM you can enable/disable a VPN connection to some Meraki network.
When the Azure VM has the VPN turned off, you can RDP to it. When you turn the VPN on, you can not RDP to it. Correct?
Are you exposing RDP to the Internet on that VM? That's a really bad idea in general.
Correct in your translation of the setup. The reason I want to RDP to the VM when its connected to the VPN is more convenience. Previously the company I work for had a gateway server setup, so to RDP into a physical machine within the company, you just had to add the gateway address into the RDP connection on the client pc.
However the licence for such aint cheap, hence my post looking for workarounds.

I think this is intended. I myself have to use the company vpn to rdp into servers, since they're always connected to the vpn
Yeah I realise this, however is there a workaround, for example using an RDP gateway?

As the title am looking for a solution to rdp to a remote windows machine when vpn is connected
The setup is as follows...
Have a Microsoft Azure VM which has been setup to connect to a company meraki vpn using the built in windows vpn protocols
With the VPN on the azure vm off, can connect to the VM using RDP, however as soon as the vpn is connected on the VM it looses RDP access unless the client pc also connects to the same vpn
A workaround was to install google chrome Remote Desktop on the VM which allows remote connection regardless whether the VM vpn is connected or not.
Am thinking some kind of RDP gateway, but this is where my knowledge gets a tad hazy
Anyone got any tips / suggestions?

remote software installation could be a possibility, as could role it out via GPO.
Im wondering if an automated gpo dxdiag solution is feasible
Funny you should mention GLPI as we already have it in place in a vanilla state

As the title, am looking into an automated method of obtaining PC specs (memory, processor, disk space etc) over the network
To further complicate things, all of our users are working remotely and connect to the company network via meraki vpn
I was considering doing an all user email to have them run DxDiag tool and email the txt report back but my boss said no!
I realise there are tools like spice works inventory scanner out there, however these rely on a direct network connection to work properly.
Any suggestions of apps / tools is most appreciated

You don't mention what version of windows 10 you used to re-install? Presume it was the latest iso at version 2004?
Regardless, if this was my machine, I would have done the following...
1) Removed bootcamp by running bootcamp again and using the restore option
2) Download the very latest 64bit ISO from here...
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10ISO
3) Re-test by installing the latest ISO using bootcamp

Wanting to purchase a Microsoft Surface Go laptop for a work colleague. However, several years ago in the Windows 7 era, one was purchased and my predecessor had resolution problems in connecting the Surface laptop to a HDMI 1080p monitor with blurred graphics and what not.My question is simple, will the latest Microsoft Surface Go 10 Inch play nice with a 1080p monitor over either USB-C to HDMI or USB-C to Displayport (the monitor has both inputs)

As the title am looking for a simple database located it asset management tool.
Work for a company with a smidgin less than 100 employees so doesn't need to be too extensive in its functionality.
Am looking for a simple browser based tool for manual entry of IT kit and don't require any automation.
Anyone got any suggestions? Google is a minefield of options, hence the post :-)

Perhaps I need to ask a different question, as I have spent too much time scouring Meraki logs and browser developer output which am struggle to make sense of! Think have been casting a too wider net!
To analyse where the problem lays, my thinking would be to get some kind of tool be-it a piece of monitoring software or browser plugin, which can effectively illustrate what's happening when you click a link.
So for example such an app / plugin would clearly list
* ip or dns name of what connection(s) are taking place when a login link is clicked
* Any ports requested again when a login link is clicked
Is there such a tool / plugin?
The browser devtools in Chrome for example spit out a lot of information, but making sense of it is another discipline entirely!

Work for a company who have their corporate website hosted with Amazons AWS product.
www.holloway.co.uk
Recently we had a suspected breach of security and our external team locked down the Meraki firewall. However after the firewall config was restored to previous configuration we have a strange issue, in that we are unable to login to our AWS hosted site from within the company LAN
We can see the login page, however as soon as the correct login details are entered, the page flashes and then stays at the pre-login site.
What makes me think its a meraki issue is that we can login to the website externally to the LAN for example from a home internet connection
Have tried whitelisting the site to no avail
Any ideas peeps?

Asus RT-AX86U Firmware
in Networking
Posted
I have the ASUS RT-AX88U and a day or so ago, upgraded to...
Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.22525
as with all firmware upgrades, its difficult to observe any good or bad issues, unless its been running for several weeks, and patterns stat to emerge .
I digress, Im seeing overall wifi instability especially on WIFI6 devices. Instability in that whilst the connection doesn't drop, there will be no throughput of data etc and devices start reporting a dropout in internet connection.
Seems to recover shortly after.
Also, general connection speeds seem a tad lower, or take time to build up to the maximum speed when looking at the reported client TX rates.
I get that WIFI conditions are variable at the best of times, and maybe it's the placebo effect in the firmware update.... be that as it may, anyone else observed general instability with this release?
Have gone back to the early Jan release of 3.0.0.4.388.22237 for the time being.
Oh and Im on Virgin Media also with the Superhub4 on 1gb connection
