Something farcical just happened.

A couple of weeks ago my wife was contacted by a media outlet (not sure if I should name them or not), and they wanted her to do a TV interview about the American border wall and how it could practically be build.

Now, she's an engineer, but she pretty much only design bridges and skyscrapers. Not walls. She even explained that to them during the initial phone call, but they insisted that she come any way.

Today was the day of the interview, and they were somehow surprised by the fact that she doesn't design walls and that she could only give theoretical comments. This surprise lead them to cancel the interview.

My guess would be that this was a left-leaning media outlet. Am I correct?

    Not really.

If it was they would probably have let her stay, considering that she would have given them the answers they wanted.

Well it sounds like they didn't want the theoretical answers she would have given them.

But I was more intrigued by them seeking out a female engineer despite her insistence that she was not the kind of engineer they were looking for. My immediate suspicion/guess was that the booker for the media outlet was more interested in platforming a female engineer to fight a gender stereotype than getting an engineer with the correct speciality/area of expertise.

That's obviously just a guess though.

Maybe they were just entirely incompetent and couldn't comprehend the issues as your wife explained them. That's also possible.

Well, she works at one the biggest engineering/architect firms in Scandinavia, and she's the only one there that works specifically on large engineering projects.

The outlet probably just looked at her employers website and picked the one engineer that might have known something about massive walls.

They strangely enough didn't even make it to the interview.
Once she showed up to the interview, someone referred to her as a wall specialist, which she corrected them on. They then said that would be a problem, since they needed someone who knew stuff about building walls.

Honestly, it just seems like whoever are running the project hadn't been communicating properly.

Although, my wife does have brightly colored purple hair, so you might be on to something.
