  1. Hi there, I'm running something similar (fx 8150, 970 ex3) and a top down cooler is definitely better for your situation. I had the 212 as well and had to sell it for the same reason. I currently have a 120mm fan angled towards the vrms running at 50% and it is enough to keep them cool. After looking at your board, it doesn't seem to have vrm heatsinks, also, the NH-L12 is capable of 95W tdp, the FX-8350 is 125W so best not to use it, try and find a different top down cooler. P.S. I can't remember if you can do this with the 212 but you may want to try clipping the rear fan lower on the heatsink. This will bring it closer to the vrms and cool them better.... Goodluck
  2. Still on an HD 5770. Its about time i upgraded....
  3. You sure youre reading the cpu temp? Im using coretemp to read my cpu temp, speed fan reads a mobo temp sensor. Currently my board is at 60 degC but CPU at 46, this is with 970 extreme3 and fx8150. That might be your problem because your board has the 4+1 phase vrm, shit gets hot. And amd bulldozer max core temp is 65 deg C. mine throttles itself at 70.
  4. Does anyone know where to buy the Xperia Z5 in Canada? Specifically the Vancouver area. I saw some sales on Ebay but i want to avoid that if possible. Thanks.
  5. Just curious whether the firmware has been updated on the Benq XL2730z to version "V002" if i purchase it from NCIX in vancouver. The sources i read all say the recall has been in EU only so far. Don't want to buy the monitor and end up having to ship it in to do the firmware upgrade.
  6. http://imgur.com/a/B1uP7 It works but its not ideal. And I've also thought of the water circulation problem. The bin has two holes drilled in it with fittings at the top and bottom left. This allows for cross flow and you have full circulation.
  7. no exposed copper pipes but quite a long section of flexible plastic tubing. The box lid isn't 100% sealed though and there's is evaporation still occurring. The lid of the box is clipped on but some air (albeit very little) can still go in and out. can't really give you time from 20 C to 30 C as the box is still warm to the touch the next morning. I'm giving rough numbers here but I've had to refill the bin after about 2 months use. About 2-4 cm water height loss. Also I still cannot stability test my cpu with prime 95 even though it is undervolted. It's just everything I do with it daily doesn't push it all that hard.
  8. Just looked up a similar looking container, dimension are about ~ 28 " L x 21" W x 18 " H Idle temps are around 25-30C. Container is sealed with a snapping top lid. System on-off every day used throughout the whole day. The 80-90C is hit with prime95 and with old clock speeds and most importantly, an extremely subpar ebay block (15$ ebay, fin thickness 1mm, no jet plate). Also, i have used a smaller container before to test the feasibility of this build. about the same size as the one im using now but half the height. I thought going to a larger size with double the water capacity and more surface area would help. But temps are identical. So you hit some point where the temps equalize and heat given off from the surface of the tank will = heat being added to the system. Edit: forgot to add, coolant is tap water with detergent in it. Been running it since the start of the build. Seems good with no bacterial growth. Only problem is, the EK block has very thin fins and dust gets into the container whenever i open the lid etc. and the block needs to be cleaned out like once a year maybe....(havent cleaned it yet flow hasn't decreased)
  9. My 2 cents. My computer has been running passively with a large plastic bin as the res with both CPU and GPU in loop for close to 2 years now. CPU: FX 8150 GPU: HD 5770 The plastic bin is the large kind from canadian tire with a lid on it. Temps are not so great. Water heats up to about 30C+ over time. GPU stays quite cool though, around 50-60C. CPU temps are quite high, prime95 will knock it out at 80 - 90C, albeit the cpu block is an ebay block. GPU block is EK universal. So my fx 8150 is underclocked and everything is fine and dandy. Let me know if you need any more details, because this method is completely feasible. If youre using a glass aquarium as well, heat transfer will be better than the thick plastic bin.
  10. Might want to check that your loop has no air pockets in it. might have an air pocket in your upper rad. Edit: also check the TIM spread on the gpu block, make sure its spread evenly.
  11. Hi I've got a problem with my ram timings changing in only 2 slots on my mobo. Spec: FX-8150 Asrock 970 extreme 3 Patriot 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 2x4Gb kit Radeon HD 5770 slot order cpu >>A1 > A2 > B1 > B2 It's recommended to run the dual channel kit in slots A1 and B1 or A2 and B2, but the problem is when in slots A2 and B2, only 4 gigs of 8 are recognized in windows task manager and in A1 and B1, all 8 gigs are available. On the timing issue, I tried each stick individually in each slot and in slots A1 and A2, both sticks ran at 1600 mhz and 9-9-9-24 mhz which is correct, but in slots B1 and B2, both sticks ran at 1600 mhz 4-5-5-15. I've tried manually setting ram timings and it would still run at these timings. Ive tried clearing cmos, upping dram voltage slightly and nothing allows me to run at 9-9-9-24 in slots B1 and B2. Also both stick have been tested in memtest for 5+ passes. Really weird problems leading me to think my mobo is causing the issue.
