  1. Hello everybody I have a Macbook Pro 2017, 15 '' with two graphics cards, latest version of High Sierra. Now I want to investigate a problem that I have had from the beginning ... but I feel it has appeared more often lately. Every day I have several graphic glitches: For a fraction of a second, I see a glitch on the screen. Both with the intel GPU and with the AMD GPU. Both on the Macbook screen and with an external screen. Here are examples of the last two hours (you have to look closely): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1TiR-nH1pgBoAJu44QvGrXyxViOXbD4rm Do you have the feeling that this is a software bug and can be fixed with a cleaninstall or is that a damaged GPU? There are no problems with benchmark testing and under load. The glitches appear random but relatively often. Thanks for your tips. Cheers
  2. Thanks for your reply. Keeping the machince up to date is definitely not the easiest way to enjoy the machine – the internet is filled with exaples of issues cause by Windows Updates. While a user who only uses internet, word and simple software might not notice a difference (except the machine getting slower over time) – someone who works in a professional environment knows the struggle: an update (especially the bigger ones) can mess up your workflow and adds features you wouldn't even need. So while I appreciate the detailed information you shared, it sadly doesn't provide the option I'm looking for (except I misunderstood something).
  3. I have Windows 10 Pro. Yes I can delay it, but only up to 30 days...what I'm looking for is an option where I can decide when I want to update...which is the way it should be anyway.
  4. Hi there Windows Auto Update is one of the most drastic implementations in Windows 10. Especially in a professional environment of video editing. Having the PC completly offline is sadly not an option for me. There are literally tons of tutorials out there of how you could disable the auto update, everybody takes a different approach – some work some others don't. My IT-Skills are limited and I don't want to damage anything. So I am looking for first hand experience and the EASIEST method possible. Also, should I decide to update on my own will, I would like to revert is easily. Would appreciate if you could share a tutorials with an easy but working method, if that exists. Thanks for the Help!
  5. Hi there, As suprised as I was: I cant find a 4-bay hard disk / ssd enclosure that provides USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10GBs). I found some expensive solutions with TB3...but maybe it's my google skills. Does anybody know a good solution? Hardware RAID possibilities are great to have but no necessary - I'b be fine with a software RAID. I intend to use it with 4 SSDs. Thanks for the tips. Cheers
  6. Reset the OC...still have the problem. Could it be the cable?
  7. No, no extended stability testing...but it worked well with the old GPU (at least for two weeks). It also doesn't happen when under load; pretty much randomly..
  8. Hi there, Since about half a year I have a Nvidia GTX 1080 (Gigabyte G1) in my PC. The PC is overclock to 4.3 GHz. For the last couple of month I had issues with random screen blackouts that needed a reboot. Though is is very different than when I my overclock didn't work (when I was @4.4/4.5) then I got the blue screen with the and the PC shut down for reboot. Now the PC keeps running, I still got a picture on my Editing monitor (connected to a Decklink Mini Monitor 4K from BMD) and if music is playing, it keeps playing... This makes me think it has someting to do with the GPU (which is not OC'd). Anybody has come across similar issues? Can it be solved or does the GPU needs replacement? Any possibility the OC of the CPU is causing this (though I also have to state, that it also happens on very low CPU usage). Thanks for the help. Cheers
  9. Hi there, Is it possible to configure a software RAID 0 with an SSD cache? My 4 x 3 TB RAID 0 is fast, but no with small files (like the ones I have with the cinema DNG codec for videography). Maybe a SSD cache would solve this problem? If this is possible - is additional software needed? Thanks and cheers
  10. Thanks you for the thorough answer. Yes I know about the NAS..but they're quite pricey as well. Also, neither do I have TB, 10Gig or USB-C...I don't want to upgrade my PC just because of that. Another question: is it possible to create a software RAID 0 (non-os) with an SSD cache? What is the areca card you own? Maybe I could buy it used.
  11. Hi there, I have several questions regarding RAID and I'm looking for some help here from experts: Status quo: I have a 4 x 3 TB (WD RED) motherboard RAID 0 setup in my system (since 3 years) I work with RAW video files a need disk speed. SSDs are too expensive for the size I need The RAID has worked great so far but has behaved weird lately. I will back it up and delete it to check every single One of the biggest problems: I work with cinema DNG (singel still frames instead of a container); so a lot of rather small files (1 to 6 MB / frame -> depending on resolution). One of the downsides of RAID seems to be those small files and it suffers in performance RAID 0 is set to 128kb I'm aware of the risks of RAID 0 and have backups. I'm not looking into RAID 5 or 6. Questions: there are a lot RAID cards out there but rarely do I read Windows 10 compatibility. Is compatibility an issue? Because of the drivers? Am I likely to see performance gains with a decent RAID card compared to the motherboard or software RAID? Can anybody recommend a good RAID card which performs well with RAID 0 and windows 10? I've seen options with SSD caches: Are the files first written to the SSD before they go onto the HDD RAID? Would this solve the issue with performance loss with small sized files? Ideally I would look into a card (maybe also used) that doesn't cost more than 300$ if this is realistic. Again: I just need RAID 0 (and maybe that SSD cache) for 4-6 drives, no fancy other stuff. Thanks for you help. Much appreciated. Cheers
  12. Thanks for the replies. When I rebooted, the speed got faster but still: with a 16 GB benchfile file, i decreased constantly...and then it suddendly speeds up again. Very weird behaviour. I don't wanna use SSDs cause I need at least 4 TB...that gets expensive quickly. So: 1. Theare are a lot of used RAID Cards but a lot are also not compatible with W10. Any suggestions for a RAID 0? 2. Is it possible to tranfer a MB RAID to a software RAID without loosing the data? I would like to test the difference. Cheers
  13. Hi there, I've had a RAID 0 over my motherboard for 2 1/2 years without a problem (of course everything is backuped). As a video editor I need the space and speed (12 TB SSD would be way more expensive). In the beginning I got around 400 MB read / write. Now I checked again with AJA and Blackmagic disk tools. There seems to be an anomaly: It starts pretty fast but then constantly keeps dropping. When I benched with my OS and Scratch SSD that was not the case; the speeds remained +- constant over the 4 & 16 GB Benchfiles. With the RAID 0 write ends up aroun 200, read under 100 MB (sometimes as low as 60 MB!) which seems very slow even if theres data on the RAID (4 x 3 TB WD RED, non pro) Questions: - does this mean one of drives starts to die? - can I check every singel drive without deleting the RAID 0? - should I switch to software RAID? - would a hardware controller give me increased speeds? I thought about the Adaptec 6405 with 512 MB cache and 4 ports. I don't need anything other than RAID 0 Thanks for the help. Cheers PS: I just overclocked my 4930k to 4.4 Ghz with offset (voltages up to 1.38), but I guess that isn't the issue.
  14. Ended up with VCORE Offset Voltage of 0.065: very low voltage and power consumption at idle, around 1.36 to 1.38 V at load. Temps around 50 under load. Seems pretty good to me.
