  1. Because the pins are different, they won't be compatible. But, it isn't necessarily true that the incompatibility is due to the refresh rate difference. I upgraded my HP Laptop from a 1080p 60Hz display to a 1080p 120Hz display. There are some websites that I've long since forgotten that have a pretty extensive catalog of all the laptop display panels that are out there. And you can get them at a more affordable price that way too. e.g. $80 vs $350 for a replacement panel.
  2. I was gonna say that an 800w unit should be fine, but I googled that model and it looks like.... REALLY old. Probably won't have to go much higher power, but something more modern (and brand name) wouldn't hurt
  3. That's some pretty weird behavior. Since the only thing you changed is the graphics card, that's the most likely issue. It might not be faulty. You should reset those connections for PCIe and power. And might as well DDU while you're at it.
  4. Don't these cards have a dual bios switch? Give that a try. It could be a problem with the card firmware.
  5. Thanks! That's the idea I was missing. I didn't realize that there was a simple SAS to SATA cable.
  6. I have 4 SAS II drives in a Rosewill Hotswap bay. The backplane has four SATA connections, but the drives are kind of detected by the motherboard SATA ports but only that something is connected, nothing useable. (some sort of Intel S5400 motherboard) I assume I need to use some sort of a SAS controller, but I don't really know what will be compatible with that configuration. Do I use a Sideband connector? Is that widely compatible? I have plenty of PCIe, PCI, and even PCI-X slots for a nice and cheap solution.
  7. There's really no reason to offload your second display to the onboard graphics. The difference in performance will never be noticeable.
  8. That's kinda neat. I don't get what it's for though...
  9. the battery in your laptop is probably getting a little old too. I've replaced (but not upgraded) the battery in my laptop with impressive results
  10. The thermal paste kinda suctions the cooler to the CPU. If you wiggle it a bit and pull decently hard it should come off. assuming you've undone all the screws. don't pull hard enough to bend the board, but decently hard.
  11. If you're hitting your server that hard consistently you might as well upgrade to the 7950x, the 10900k is also getting outdated by comparison.
  12. I haven't done the math, but my vibe is that a 500w would do nicely. I think that 80 plus gold is pretty close to platinum, but can save a decent amount of money if you want. And for a server I'm willing to forgo any modularity as aesthetics aren't really a priority. Maybe this be quiet! 500w unit
  13. I would recommend going with a CPU that has integrated graphics to make setup and troubleshooting a lot easier. You might want to go for even more RAM if you can swing it. 650w is more than you need IMO, but that's not a problem. I'm a little concerned about PCIe lane allocation since you're planning on using all available slots and the M.2 slot.
  14. Just as long as it's making contact with both metal bits in the connector. It is a likely suspect. I would start with cleaning everything and reassembling it to make sure everything is plugged in solidly.
  15. You'll probably be able to get default drivers to work regardless. and that'll be enough to get you to a proper driver download. Might be a good idea to uninstall any drivers you don't need before migrating though.
  16. Probably not. But since it is a prebuilt you might be able to get support from wherever you bought it. An bad overclock wouldn't really exhibit that kind of behavior.
  17. you could try bios flashback or recover something
  18. There are no boot or post LEDs or codes on the motherboard?
  19. is it a GTX 1070 or an RTX 2070 that you have? If you're on a budget buy none of the cards you mentioned. maybe wait for a 4070 or 4060. or buy 3060 or 3070 Do you even need an upgrade? What're you trying to play and at what resolution? Also since you're upgrading a prebuilt be cautious of PSU constraints and what power connectors you have for the GPU. are AMD GPUs an option for you?
  20. are there regular boot LEDs doing anything?
  21. What problems did you mention in your first post? Did you open it up and maybe mess up some of the cooling? Overheating maybe? yeah maybe
  22. turn it off and on again? otherwise sounds like it's broken.
