  1. HI! after the nVidia RTX-2000 series been on the market for like 2 years now. Like most things the 1st version such as the RTX 2060 has uncharacteristics and many flaws. Automobiles are the same way, example Ford comes out with a new car model, the 1st year generally has many flaws / defects and a huge list of complaints to follow. Much is corrected in the next version - next year model. It is no different with Video Cards. The 1st one out the door generally sucks and does not perform to expectations. There of late 2019 and now half way in 2020 (covid 19) that laptop manufacturers are pushing out numerous units with RTX 2060. OUCH! again! OUCH! what a rip off and scam using the RTX 2060, really it is that bad of a graphics card. It causes low FPS, screen tearing, horizontal splits, artifacts, poor Ray Tracing, and even causes Windows to freeze/ lock up in which you need to reboot your PC. The nVidia RTX 2060 is a problem child to be avoided at all cost. Spend the extra cash for the RTX 2070 or RTX 2080 and again as cannot be stressed or said enough time is avoid the RTX 2060 at all cost and save yourself the grief. Actually, unless you are only playing games at 1080p and not 4k/1440p then best stay with GTX 1070, GTX 1080ti, GTX 1660ti. Otherwise if you want 4k/1440p for playing games and doing Video Editing/ Rendering then go with RTX 2070 or RTX 2080 (avoid the RTX 2060 if you have it get rid of it ASAP).
  2. LOL! some mfr use motherboards that have specific requirements and design for WiFi cards they intend to use. And yes! the mfr through their BIOS will and can prohibit you from upgrading. The Killer AX 201 is suppose to be a replacement for the Intel AC 9560. Before you consider purchasing a new WiFi card, contact the mfr. technical support. However, most times they may not reply or will tell you it is not upgradable. Often following company policy or just the fact your laptop is specified only to work with that WiFi card. If you had your laptop custom built by a company like Origin or Falcon Northwest, good chance you are able to upgrade most components / hardware, except the CPU. Sometimes you can level up one or two on the GPU and also get the screen replaced depending upon motherboard, CPU and GPU compatibility. If possible always go for the highest battery output Wh. or one notch down. Example a 80Wh is the biggest and baddest that will fit but cost way too much then see if a 74.5 Wh will suffice as only applies in getting a custom built.Everything screams for more power. So if you are not wealthy chances are you will not afford to get a nice custom built PC (desktop or laptop). Before giving up. Stay content with what you do have and be patience. Good chance in another year to 18 months saved enough money to buy that better computer which will also have that WiFi 6, Blue Tooth 5 and Dual Band ability. My daughter's 2019 ACER Predator Helios 300 has the Killer AX 1650 and has no issues. So not all stuff made by Killer is crap. "If it ain't broken then don't try to fix it". Just remember for every dollar you spend, 50 cents goes supporting those on welfare and 20 cents to Federal government. Hard to save money when there are so many systems taking. Tax Payer dollars don't go far, then you have Charity asking all the time for donations. Solution: ALWAYS PAY YOURSELF FIRST.
  3. -125mv undervolt is standard, should already be preset from the MSI factory, at -150mv your i7-9750H would be considered fantastic the cream of the crop. For unknown reason, MSI messed up since it should be fully functional at -125mv. Sorry, that you need -120mv for stability also the CPU will run another 2c hotter. I'd contact MSI technical department, if you desire to RMA. However, no guarantee when it'll get fixed or when returned will be better than before since it cost MSI a good penny to replace the CPU. Forget ThrottleStop and XTU don't use them or need them. Go into BIOS and set things to Default. Use AfterBurner to adjust GPU (RTX 2070), or if MSI included an Program that will OC - overclock your GPU automatically. 17 inch laptops generally cost more, the main difference is the layout since the chassis provides more space for cooling. Since it not as congested as a 15.6 inch laptop they are able to add a SD card reader or Optical CD/DVD Drive or another HDD/SSD compartment. You also have a larger screen meaning game play viewing angles are better, you get a bigger picture of your surroundings. Performance wise between 15.6 and 17 is rather minute. However, battery life typically is better since the can install a larger battery. Draw back about 17 inch is they are bit heavier and bulky on your lap, not as portable and if you have a locker at college or high school makes for a tight fit. The i7-9750H base frequency is 2.6GHz and max turbo is 4.5GHz. Most people will never see anything above 4.3GHz, average is about 3.8 to 3.9GHz in turbo because the TDP limit ends at 56W instead of 60W. Most intense video games the CPU temp may reach 88c to 93c or bit higher. Gets near 100c your computer will auto shut down to protect itself. The GPU (GTX 1660ti, RTX 2060/70/80) temps may range from 75c to 85c during gaming but relatively will be 10c less than the CPU.
  4. No need to change your strategy! just concerned about Bottleneck and well it happens with the best CPU and GPU combo. My ASUS Maximus V Gene rig. 2x8GB G.Skill TridentX DDR3 2400MHz (XMP), i7-3770K Turbo @ 3.9GHz, Noctua NH-L12S cpu cooler, AMD R9-280X gpu, Zalman 850 Watt modular PSU., Corsair 100R mid-tower, Thermaltake Riing 120mm High Static Pressure for Front and Rear air flow., Samsung EVO 850 500GB ssd, Windows 10 Pro ver 1903., Linksys AE2500 USB Wireless N Adapter. I am not a gamer. My desktop runs great for practically everyday use. Adobe products work fine, Microsoft Office 2016 Pro., You Tube, Streaming ESPN3 for Sports, web Browsing , once had AutoCAD but best with 32GB of memory and a larger SSD. I've run all kinds of Benchmarks, just no need to prove anything or stress the system anymore. Hey, it's 8 years old and 3rd Gen, I have a newer DIY rig built in 2015 with i7-6700K gives about a 15 percent increase in performance over the i7-3770K. When time to build my next system probably in 2022 it will have an used Intel i9 series and GTX 1080ti or if budget allows RTX 2080 ti. Current pace is to replace your system every 5 to 7 years as I didn't really need to build my 2015 rig therefore 2022 be ideal time for another build. I might try the AMD Threadripper but I've always been an Intel-ligent guy. lol.
  5. Delidding may destroy the CPU if not careful. Also Over Clocking it by huge amount anything greater than 20 percent will in time degrade and shorten the CPU lifespan but keeping the temperature down will provide additional life. Thermal Throttling can be an issue and we all love to hate Bottlenecks between CPU and GPU.
  6. You can get a pair (2x8GB) TridentX DDR3 2400MHz for $70 to $90 on eBay. You need patience and wait. Look/ search every 3 to 5 days as someone will sell in a few months. Play the waiting game on eBay. Truth is, not any difference in performance with 2400 as 2133MHz appears to be the real limit. Regarding Latency 1600MHz is Z best. Newer systems with DDR4 you will then find 2133 is tops unless you go with AMD and run ridiculous 4000. Oh! get ddr4 2666MHz for Laptops as they doubled 1333MHz. If you are a true Gamer get a nice Intel 9th or 10th Gen. CPU matched with a near top end GPU depending on your budget. If your interested in an affordable mid-range gaming Laptop and have $1k to $1500 get the 2019 ACER Predator Helios 300 w 144Hz IPS screen and GTX 1660ti (on sale like $949 if you find one). You can always upgrade the memory, NVMe m.2 and ssd. It's was indicated to be in the Top 3 of all mid to upper range laptops in 2019. My daughter got one but with RTX 2060 for Video Editing, Rendering, Photos and Audio stuff … it's solid quality build and has fantastic performance. The RTX 2060 was a waste of $200 as GTX 1660ti performs maybe 1 to 2 percent less. Lenovo and MSI where the other 2 followed by HP and Eluktronics. Asus fell into a hole. RAZER on the high end and ACER Triton close behind. I have ASUS Maximus V Gene mobo and thought the TridentX 2400MHz be an improvement only to find out not any significant change from 1600Mhz. You have to go into BIOS and turn on the XMP setting. I find I get a better boost in performance with my Samsung EVO 850 500GB ssd than the TridentX. but 16GB proves to be better than 8GB and runs smooth.
  7. My ASUS Maximus V Gene rig. 2x8GB G.Skill TridentX DDR3 2400MHz (XMP), i7-3770K Turbo @ 3.9GHz, Noctua NH-L12S cpu cooler, AMD R9-280X gpu, Zalman 850 Watt modular PSU., Corsair 100R mid-tower, Thermaltake Riing 120mm High Static Pressure for Front and Rear air flow., Samsung EVO 850 500GB ssd, Windows 10 Pro ver 1903., Linksys AE2500 USB Wireless N Adapter. 8. I was given a HP Pro 350 (released in 2012) by my old father in-law here in Nov. 2019. He paid $90 for it in 2017. It had a G645 with 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800U, one Micron 4GB stick and one Samsung 2GB memory stick and it ran at 1333Mhz. It ran super slow with Windows 10 Pro ver. 1903. - snail crawl. Since Windows 10 is a huge memory hog had to upgrade it. The Motherboard : Foxconn 2abf motherboard aka H-CUPERTINO2-H61-uA TX (Cupertino2) version 3.10. As it has been indicated any HP Pro 3500 will accept Intel Gen. 3 cpu's even though HP Specification does not say that. I've upgraded to i7-3770 (non-K) $32 - $45 and Micron DDR3 PC3-12800U 4GB (part number or model 8JTF51264AZ-1G6E1) 2x4GB under $20. Updated Bios v8.14 to v8.19 download application file sp70375 size 3.63MB and it works perfectly and easy to install as just click on the file. What an improvement twice to three times faster. CPU runs at 3.9GHz as if it is in Boost Mode and RAM is now running like XMP mode at 1600MHz timings of 11-11-11-28. Yes! with a 300 Watt Power Supply you could install a GTX 1050-ti as power requirements is so little which is so weird for a more recent GPU. You could try 2x8GB of memory, then for a very outrageous price still for i7-3770K between $120 - $160 only if you wish to try Overclocking which actually means purchasing a Z77 motherboard (LGA 1155) that allows you to use the UEFI Bios Menu. A comparable GPU to the integrated HD 4000 is the GeForce GT 710. For another big upgrade get a 600 Watt, 650 Watt or 750 Watt Power Supply Unit Bronze or 80 Plus non- modular ($40 to $90) and you can install GTX 760, GTX 770 or GTX 970 or R9-280 or 290. Note that the motherboard PCIe connection / lanes may not be capable of delivering the necessary power for the GPU to function properly. Is it really worth spending so much to make a huge upgrade ?? probably NOT but it is always fun to make an obsolete PC capable of becoming an useful PC for the next couple years. I had only invested $32 for i7-3770 cpu and $7 for 1 stick of Micron 4GB as now browsing the web, MS Office 2016, streaming video, watching movies using VideoLan VLC Media Player is nice. CPU temperature stays below 45 c at 3.9GHz. Go wireless using a Linksys/ Cisco AE2500 Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Adapter, Wireless Mouse and USB or Wireless Keyboard. Any 15" to 24" LCD/LED Widescreen Monitor for 1920x1200 Resolution is kool.
  9. I have the HP Pro 3500 with Foxconn 2abf motherboard aka H-CUPERTINO2-H61-uA TX (Cupertino2) as my mobo version is 3.10. It had intel G645 cpu and 6GB of Micron DDR3 pc3-12800U 1600MHz memory. Windows 10 caused it to run very slow due to being a memory hog. It had BIOS v8.14 . I could not find bios 8.17. I upgraded cpu to i7-3770 (non-K) and replace the 2GB with a 4GB Micron memory stick. It accepted all with no problem. Also instead of running at 1333Mhz memory it automatically ran at 1600Mhz. (2x 4GB =8GB) like it went to XMP if able to select it in the BIOS. Note: AMI gave barebones BIOS Instructions and not like the wonderful UEFI Bioses of today. I went to the DEVICE MANAGER and updated all my Drivers to all devices if any were found. There was a new driver update required for the i7-3770's HD 4000 integrated graphics as the old was HD 2000 with the G645. Now my desktop is performing at an overall 40 percent improvement. The Intel i7-3770 cost $33 and one Micron DDR3 PC3-12800U 4GB ( part number or model 8JTF51264AZ-1G6E1) stick for $7. I paid $90 for the used HP Pro 3500 in late 2017. To upgrade this desktop further would require an ATX Power Supply of 500 Watts minimal to 600 Watts maximum if decided to run to Dedicated/ discrete Graphic Card. The most I would consider would be a nVidia GTX 750 or 760 due to nature of motherboard PCIe slot unlikely to handle the electrical current / amperage of a more powerful GPU. (not able to deliver power required for the GPU to work). Stay clear of Fermi Microarchitecture in GPU's for this Intel h61 Foxconn 2abf motherboard is at risk that the graphic card might not run correctly with fermi's. Also you most likely would encounter a Bottleneck with a newer GPU cause the transfer data rate between RAM-CPU-GPU will get into a bind. I decided to install the latest BIOS v8.19 download application file sp70375 size 3.63MB and it works perfectly. I have recently purchased a new ASUS Maximus V Gene motherboard in late 2019 for $128 with S&H and taxes was $148. In April 2012 the new Asus Maximus V Gene MSRP was $200. Yeah $128 pricey but guess can be worth it providing it is not a DOA or has bent pin in LGA 1155 socket. ASUS had lots of Quality Control issues with many motherboards in 2011 through 2014. Just hope this will help others in the near future who have this old Z77 LGA 1155 type motherboard. To use the Maximus V Gene you need a minimal 350 Watt Power Supply to get it off the ground therefore, better off getting that 500 Watt to 600 Watt unit. Doubt I'll buy the intel i7-3770K as very costly in the $140 plus range .. only good for OverClocking anyways which not able to do on the HP Foxconn 2abf. Last the intel i7-3770 will auto boost from 3.5GHz to 3.9GHz on this Foxconn 2abf mobo and your RAM will also be 1600MHz instead of 1333Mhz. All good stuff. -- Enjoy and have fun using an 8 year old desktop in year 2020. As long as you do not need 4K monitor resolution. Nearly forgot.. download HP Support Assistant since it contains useful info , utility tools, updates and minor Troubleshooting fixes to run. A good mid range 500 to 600 Watt PSU from Corsair. EVGA, Thermaltake, with modular connectors may cost $45 to $80 used as it would be required for a decent dedicated Graphics card. You can go an alternate direction and stay with the HP 300 Watt and get a cheap Nvidia Geforce GT 710 with 2GB memory for $20 to $40 which is about a 25 percent increase over the integrated HD 4000. Yes they are comparable but Discrete/ Dedicated always win over integrated graphics.
  10. I enjoy your You Tube tech info. videos. I find them useful and/ or interesting. The clarity (focus, sharpness, color) and audio of your videos are well above average. Had watched your wedding video (April 2011) today and a much belated Congratulations ! nice that you have 3 children. So you're 30 years old - your energy level in your videos makes you appear to be a 23 to 25 year old. I'm just an average guy who has built 2 DIY desktops in 2008 and 2016. My wife of nearly 27 years is technology illiterate and hates computers. Some of my very 1st PC games when I was in my 20's and before I was married: Zork, Bards Tale, Lode Runner, Ultima, Kings Quest, Wizardy and Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy. Then by 2001 was Diablo II / LoD expansion, later came WoW, and eventually Diablo 3 - I stopped playing games in Dec. 2016 except MSN Internet Spades. No, I do not own or have Play Station, Xbox, Nintendo, etc. as they are too difficult for me since I have very poor dexterity or those finger/thumb and eye coordination - reflexes. I'm much better at Pin Ball machines. My 2 daughters both have graduated from High School and they do not play video games however do use laptops. I got into computers while serving in the United States Navy (1978 - 1986). My military occupation was Aviation Electronics Technician. My Uncle introduced me to his Apple II Plus in 1982. He worked in the Media/ Communications department at University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Oh! I have visited Vancouver, BC, Canada once when I was in the U.S. Navy stationed near Seattle, Washington I had taken a drive up there. A very nice place !! When watching your Wedding video automatically knew you were in Greece from the building architectural design. I've been to Athens, Greece. Greeks have very delicious food like lamb, salads, bread and wine and some kind of tradition as it was fun to dance and smash our dinner plates on the floor. Anyways Linus, may you and your family have a wonderful and happy life.
