  1. As it says in the title. I got a new 4TB NVME drive on Black Friday (this one, specifically: Predator GM7000 M.2 up to 2TB storage and 7400 MB/s read speed (predatorstorage.com)), and the first benchmark was in line with my 970 EVO. After getting my OS and files migrated and using it for about a week, performance dropped off a cliff. Here's the before and after in Samsung Magician: Is there anything I should know/try before returning this drive and getting a replacement? Am I misunderstanding SSDs, is this just a sucky one? I thought I did my research, and I made sure to get a drive with a DRAM cache (this one has 4 GB). I know it's TLC, but I thought that impacted lifespan way more than immediate performance, and I got a really really good deal so I wasn't worried if it only lasted several years instead of 5+.
  2. I can definitely do that, but what would I be looking for? It looks perfect from the outside in the pictures. Are you saying ask them if I can open it up?
  3. I found an Odessey G9 on Marketplace for $200 US. Apparently, it got bumped in moving, and it will no longer turn on. No obvious damage to the panel or the chassis. I'm wondering if it would be worth a try to repair it.
  4. Unfortunately, I was experiencing the same issue with the internet before installing the LAN card. Good shout on the USB card though, I'll try unplugging that and see if the ports on the motherboard start working again. I suspected a power problem at one point, and upgraded to a 1000 watt PSU. Should have the juice.
  5. Hello all! My computer recently started losing internet connection (kind of) intermittently. I say kind of, because windows still thinks it has internet, and any page that I'm already on doesn't stop working, it just stops loading new pages. At first, I thought it was my built in ethernet port on my motherboard, since I also have issues with some of the usb ports on it, and I think the USB controller on the MB might be going bad because plugging in one device sometimes causes the others to stop working. Since then, I purchased a PCIe ethernet card and the problem is still present. My PC: ASRock x370 Killer SLI/ac Ryzen 1700x NVidia 3080 Founders edition Realtek 2.5g lite PCIe LAN card PCIe USB 3.0 card Windows 10 pro, up to date, recent fresh install Also probably relevant, I use Edge for web browsing. I've tried wiping the cache, doesn't seem to help. Any ideas are appreciated, I'm about to lose my mind and wipe the drive again :D
  6. Nevermind, dummy, I can see through my case. It's 100% daisy-chained.
  7. This seems to be the right track, boosting the power limit in geforce to 115% for the 3080 leads to more instability, and dropping it to 90% seems to be pretty solid running prime95 and Furmark. Excellent question. I think it's daisy chained now that you mention it. I've got some new hardware coming tomorrow (16gb of RAM wasn't cutting it anymore) so when she's on the operating table I'll check to make sure. I assume by your emphasis that I should be using 2 separate cables?
  8. Hello, My computer is crashing whenever there is a load on both my CPU and my GPU, but both are stable on their own. This makes me suspect the PSU, but I wanted to ask for some more eyes before I went ahead and bought a new one.I would love to post dump files, but it's not creating them "due to error during dump creation". The actual crash is Event ID 41, source is Kernel-Power; the dump file error is ID 161 source is volmgr. Any help would be appreciated, and I'm happy to supply any info I can get. Specs: GPU: RTX 3080 CPU: Ryzen 7 1700x MB: ASRock x370 Killer RAM: 16gb Corsair Vengeance DDR4 PSU: Corsair RM 750x
  9. I was afraid of that. Oh well, guess I'll have to shuffle some things around. Any recommendation for a white AiO by chance? Don't want to mess with my theme
  10. Is there some sort of adapter bracket that would work? I know I used an AM4 bracket to mount the AiO for my Ryzen system.
  11. I have a Zotac Amp Edition 1080ti that I want to use the g12 bracket with. I know it's compatible with the card, but the DeepCool Captain 240ex (which I already own) isn't listed as a compatible AIO. Any reason it wouldn't work anyway? Does anyone have experience with this bracket?
  12. I’m getting a good headset soon, and I already have a decent one, I’m looking to use these more for watching movies and YouTube. Don’t want to wear a headset all the time, you know? So, any recommendations for AV receivers? Space is a bit of a concern, so smaller would be better.
  13. Hi friends; While cleaning out the garage I stumbled across this set of Sony speakers. They look like they are in perfect condition, and I’m not even sure they have ever been used. My question is this: what options do I have for connecting them to my pc? Is there some sort of usb amp/dac that would do the job? I’m kind of an audio noob, so any relevant links would be appreciated too. Also: does anyone know what these are? Are they decent quality? I haven’t looked up the serial number yet, but I will.
  14. Did you get yours after market, or did it come with the gpu?
  15. I'm in the planning stages of a new build, and I'm not sure which 1080ti to buy. I'm looking at the MSI seahawk x, which is water cooled, and an evga open air cooled model. The price is slightly higher for the water-cooled card (obviously) around $50 US more. My question is, is it worth it?
  16. Another option for 1440p 144hz: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/mNBrxr/aoc-ag271qx-270-2560x1440-144hz-monitor-ag271qx Same price as the above dell, and virtually the same specs. Another consideration is do you need G-Sync? Depending on which titles you play, my own research suggests that the 1070 might not be able to push enough frames at 1440p for a smooth (tear free) experience without it, but I could be wrong, and it is an extra ~$170. Edit: As far as the move from 75hz to 144hz is concerned, you do get diminishing returns higher than ~75 from my own experience and what I've read from others. It's like upgrading from an HDD to an SSD. You don't notice until you have to go back and use the old tech how much better the new stuff is.
  17. After more research, it seems like the 1700 and the 1700x perform within 5% of each other in benchmarking, for both gaming and rendering, making the 1700 a much better price/performance. If anyone has more knowledge to share on that subject, I'd love to hear it.
  18. Keeping in mind that Windows will cost far less than listed, here is a more finalized parts list: PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YWbKD8 Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YWbKD8/by_merchant/ CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 1700X 3.4GHz 8-Core Processor ($347.76 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Thermaltake - Water 3.0 Extreme S 99.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($84.33 @ OutletPC) Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver - 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste ($4.75 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: ASRock - AB350 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard ($87.89 @ OutletPC) Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($112.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Western Digital - Blue 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($83.89 @ OutletPC) Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($66.89 @ OutletPC) Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Gaming OC 11G Video Card ($683.99 @ SuperBiiz) Case: Phanteks - ECLIPSE P400S TEMPERED GLASS ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($79.99 @ Newegg) Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit ($132.89 @ OutletPC) Monitor: AOC - Q2778VQE 27.0" 2560x1440 60Hz Monitor ($249.99 @ Amazon) Keyboard: Razer - BlackWidow Chroma Wired Gaming Keyboard ($133.99 @ B&H) Total: $2149.34 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-06-12 19:03 EDT-0400 With good shopping over the next month, I should be able to build it for less than $2000, which was my goal. I made a mistake in the original list and selected the Ryzen 7 1700 instead of the 1700x, which comes at a higher clock speed as well as having XFR. I know I could get a less expensive keyboard, but it matches my mouse. I'm still not sure about the monitor, but we'll see. More suggestions are always welcomed. EDIT: Also, the build flags the watercooler for possibly needing a mount adapter to fit on the motherboard. Anyone know if that is the case?
  19. Any input on the monitor? It looks good on paper, but it seems cheap for what you're getting.
  20. If I can keep it under $100, I should be able to do it.
  21. Yeah, I was planning on buying windows 3rd party, just wanted to include it in the price estimate. As far as the case goes, any suggestions? I'd like to keep it a mid tower for size, but if a full would be better for thermals then I could move up as long as the price is right. The only real requirement is it needs to have a front usb 3.0. Is the extra $100 for a third party 1080 TI really worth it? I haven't found any thermal benchmarks to confirm or deny.
  22. I'm in the planning stages of a new build, and I'm looking for some help keeping it under budget. I can afford around $2,000 US including peripherals. I already have a mouse, headset, and Microphone. The PC will be used for both gaming and editing/rendering. I have a basic idea, but suggestions and changes are welcomed.
