  1. those are good options but the t480 has weak graphics and the x380 has no graphics. the cpus are great though
  2. I currently have a lenovo w530 for school. It is still pretty powerful but I need a smaller laptop. Something that can pull its weight in running VMs, compiling code and 3d CAD. I would also like it to handle gaming decently. I have looked at the stealths and alienware 13 r3s but they are expensive and am trying to find if anything else exists. Requirements: CPU: 4 physical cores minimum (I am ok to go back to the 3000 gen for intel | does amd even have any offerings?) GPU: 970m+ (would prefer 980m, 1050ti, 1060) RAM: 16gb (or expandability to 16) Display: 1080p (would love high refresh rate but probably not realistic and only worth with better GPUs) Size: 13 inch (14inch if it hits all the reqs but def not going to 15inch)
  3. I just got a EVGA sr-2 off ebay for 630USD with 2 x5690 and waterblocks (In shipping currently). I am not building this because it will be the best pc ever. I am building it because it is going to look cool and have the ability to stream and play simultaneously. It also is a fun project to work with older highest end hardware and see what it can do. Plus later down the line it will crush CAD. some things to consider is the formfactor of the sr-2. Its a weird one: HPTX. not that many cases out there but they do exist. Edit: I originally looked up the case you had picked and it was called an ATX case so I thought it was not going to work but I jsut read the description and it does support HPTX. Just ignore the last 2 sentences
  4. I heard AMD was getting better yields because of their process. they are making a bunch of 2 or 4core cpus and sticking them together. like the 1700-1800x is actually more than one cpu stuck together. and then they can just keep putting more and more together without a theoretical limit. thats how they are able to get a 32c64t part out at all obviously the yield on a 4 core cpu is going to be much better than a 22 core
  5. Sorry. I heard somewhere that intel was sitting around like 60% yield. After doing some research I have found that there is no information out there on Yield at all. 80% for AMD is also just a made up number. but I have heard it before
  6. I started my current job about 4 months ago in IT. I enjoy it a lot here and have not had to do any overtime. That being said I believe that my positive experience has a lot more to do with the culture here. Everyone is friendly, the CEO is always around and you can just go have a conversation with him, the work environment is not stressful, unlike other places I have seen. Everyone is just relaxed all the time but still gets work done. I would strongly suggest you stay away from a company that has a lot of stressed employees. It usually has something to say about management. And you don't want to be fighting management just to do your job. I have no certs and joined as a junior IT. I just have been learning as I go.
  7. AMD has better cpu yeilds because of their process, so they can offer a better product for less money than intel but still be making as much profit per unit (if that makes sense). 128 threads is a bit ridiculous though (dual socket system)
  8. that is a much better 5.5lb And yes I am willing to forgo the gpu
  9. https://www.amazon.com/Precision-M4700-15-6-LED-Notebook/dp/B00BF7PM64 so this one would work great? I have an ssd already to replace the drive. I would also put windows 10 on anything I get to (hopefully) mitigate any compatibility issues with school programs
  10. there is something to be said about owning something that is new. Warranty, not worrying about what the previous owner did to it,etc then there is the whole being told you totally need 2tb storage and 16+GB ram,
  11. ok ill switch it around I think used audis are a good bit cheaper than a brand new civic. they will be more comfortable, faster, better looking
  12. If a 1k 2000 honda civic will get you from point A to point B just as reliably as a brand new Audi S8 why would anyone spend over 100k on a car? pretty much the same reason
  13. That's what I kind of want to do, but when are they coming? And how many Canadian Pesos will I have to spend? I am pretty sure I will go with an older business model if I can find one at a good price.
