I have 2 760s evga 2 gigs, I tried to run them in sli, but in the nvida control panel it does not give me the option to. I know that they aren not running in sli becuase the evga scanner says that sli is disabled. Please help

I just got a new system and I cant get it to post, i have an msi z97 g-45 and an i5 4690k with an evga supernova 750b. I plugged evertying in and tried to power it on by shorting out the power switch. the powersupply fan started spinning and crackling and then it started to smoke and shut off. I tried again, it powered on for like 2 seconds and then turned off. The mobo lights turn on and the cpu fan starts spinning. What do i do?

I am trying to get together a parts list for my first build my budget is around 1100 but if necessary i could go up to 1300 usd. The computer will be used primarily for gaming but also to dabble in video editing. I will be running graphically intense games and use adobe premier for video editing. My monitor is a 1920 x 1080 Acer H236HLbid i don't intend to be adding any more monitors. Peripherals are listed, and i am upgrading from a mac book air my school issued me so pretty self explanatory why I need a new computer. My router and modum are in a room that it acrros the house, and my room where I keep my computer xbox and other things are expreiencing little to no internet conneciton. What should I buy in order to fix my problem.
