@Densetsu They go for around $350.00 right now.
-
K702 is basically the K7XX
-
@Densetsu The factory change was a while ago. I don’t know why the price has hiked recently.
-
@Max_Settings Supply and demand issues?
-
@Max_Settings You talking to me?
Because i'm loving them.
-
And to be fair the K702 is the old model. The K702 anniversary is the new model and is what the K7XX is a rebrand of.

Over twice the price...
I'm good.
-
@Cinnabar SonarIf the 702 anniversary sounds the same as the K7XX, they 702 anniversary is the most overpriced headphones ever.
-
@Max_Settings I like the k702s but not THAT much.
Unless they put something amazing in them, I don't see any reason to pick them up over other headphones in that price range.
-
@Cinnabar Sonar I can also say that the K7XX is massively outclassed by the HD6XX/HD650 and the HE-4XX
-
@Max_Settings The K702 excels over the HD650 in terms of soundstage.
Bass decay is also faster, in fact the K702s are faster in general, at least compared to the relatively laid back HD 650s.
The K702s are on the bright side though, and can get fatiguing for some. Not sure if I will find them fatiguing after a while.
The HD 650s are a bit better when it comes to imaging, especially in the midrange and lower.
I would argue that the HD 650s will sound more pleasing to most, but when it comes to stuff like heavy metal (and other "fast" music) and gaming (soundstage > everything else for me when it comes to gaming) I think I will prefer the K702.
Edit: keep in mind, I just got these today. I need more time to make a definite conclusion.
-
@Cinnabar Sonar I can't speak for the K702s, but K7XXs vs HD650sI will say that the two have a similar sound signature. The K7XX sounds like a muddier HD650 with a bit more bass, sound stage, and treble. But the treble and vocals are fairly grainy in comparison to the HD650.
-
@Max_Settings I just A Bd a relatively "grainy" song. It seems like if there is "grain" already in the song the K702 will emphasize it, probably because it's quite bright.
But what you mentioned sounds nothing like the K702s.
They are bright and crisp, a bit lacking in bass, with a pretty large soundstage.
-
@Max_Settings I just tried to EQ some bass into the headphones, and they ended up sounding exactly like what you described.
I wonder if AKG tired to tune some bass into the newer models since that was the biggest complaint with the K702/701?
-
@Cinnabar Sonar Yes on the anniversary edition they added a 3db bump to the low end.
-
@Max_Settings I'm going to try a 3db increase then.
-
The K701s are probably more expensive because major retailers are out of stock on them - since the 702 launched and all. So low availability -> inflated price
-
Tried a 3db bump up to 110 Hz, that made it a bit more muddy and boomy.
Increased it all the way to 220 Hz and it got worse.
These headphones don't EQ that well.
@Max_Settings That may be the issue.
Also, some more A B tests show that the HD 650s midrange is more pronounced.
It makes the HD 650s sound a lot more "full".
-
@Energycore So not because anime?
-
Ok then I don't think that the K702 sounds like the K7XX. My review should be out late tonight and you can read what I think then.
-
All I know is that im just sitting here sad as $190ish dollars were spent like spare cash

@silentprototipe On what?
If it makes you feel any better, electric was $450 this month.
-
@Cinnabar Sonar Wow, Does that 1920X really consume that much power?
-
@silentprototipe Temperature is still below zero at night.
And central heating is broken.
