Upgrade EVGA 2080TI FTW 3 to MSI Ventus 3080?
CADGuy23 replied to StealthArsenal's topic in Graphics Cards
I would buy it as long it's a reasonable price. I bought my EVGA 3080 FTW3 soon after launch and sold my 2080TI to a friend for $400. (they were selling around $500 at the time.) You can probably make most of you money back if you sell the 2080TI. -
It may be as simple as cleaning hair or debris in front of the laser. Use a Q-tip with alcohol. Try a second mouse if you can before you start messing with windows, drivers, ect.

If you are using an NVME boot drive, it usually requires your mobo to run with CSM on depending on format. If you do have CSM enabled it will not let you turn on resizeable bar.
-
Myself and 3 of my friends got our 3080's and we were in queue day 1 and 2. I got mine about 6 weeks after launch, theirs were a week or two after mine.

Found the problem. It needs both pins connected.

There is a lot of variables in play on this and is tough to diagnose imo. The only constant here is Rainbow 6, is there another way to test your system to rule out the game being the culprit here? There are several recent bios updates for your board, that may be something you want to try. Are you running with PBO enabled on your bios? That will help with keeping a higher FPS.

Will my power supply be able to handle the 3080
CADGuy23 replied to SquiddyButler's topic in New Builds and Planning
I have the same PSU with a 3080 and 5950x. It will run stock fine and some light overclocking, although it is recommended to have a more powerful PSU. I have not had any issues. -
5 years is average and 10 years would be a long life.
-
I wasn't aware of that Issue, I've had a 7700k since launch. That's pretty awful if it doesn't even last 3-4 years.

That sounds incredibly hot for 4.5Ghz. Can you check if the heatsink mount screws are tightened up? It may not be making good contact.

Cyberpunk2077: Low fps. RTX3070 utilization only at 50%.
CADGuy23 replied to irfankamil's topic in PC Gaming
I'm running a 7700k @5ghz with a 3080. The CPU usage is pegged at 100% while the GPU around 60%. I average around 70fps. Have you tried overclocking your cpu? If you haven't done the config file edit, It will help with the frame drops. -
Thanks for the assistance.

I recently purchased an ASUS Prime X-570 Pro with the intent on buying a 5900X when they are available. At the time they were advertised as "AMD 5000 series ready" and I did not know know they required a bios flash to work. I did not see a bios version listed on the board, I know I need version 2606 from 8/17 or newer. I am a little confused on how this works because some boards are capable of flashing bios without the CPU. Is this board capable of doing this? What would you guys recommend as solutions so that when I do get the CPU I will be able to use it? https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-X570-PRO/specifications/

Make sure you put them in slot 2 and 4 if it covers the first slot so it will run in dual channel. I'm not sure about the difference in dies, I don't think it will make a noticeable difference.

RAM in Mhz and Cpu in GHZ
CADGuy23 replied to RockSolid1106's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I'm just taking a guess here but it would be a bit long winded to say certain speeds like 1866 mhz as 1.866 Ghz or 3866 as 3.866 ect. -
Can two different sized RAM run in dual channel?
CADGuy23 replied to Ariando's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
It can work but you also run the risk of having issues. I've run 8gb and 4gb sticks and similarly 512mb and 1gb stick together with no issues. If it's a new build, you should try and return the chip and buy the 2x8 set. -
stuck between on-board wifi or wifi card
CADGuy23 replied to Dragamesh's topic in New Builds and Planning
I would go with the wifi card if I absolutely had to. Wifi 6 (ax) will have a very short range and at that distance i'd rather just hook up directly. I don't know your situation, but I would do everything in my power to run an ethernet cable and avoid wifi altogether. -
What Ryzen 5000 CPU are you getting?
CADGuy23 replied to Thinkfreely's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I'm sure there are some issues, but not widespread enough for me to distrust this board. I looked into the TUF and it is definitely a better value. The prime looks better overall, has an extra phase of power for memory overclocking. I want good VRM's and Asus seems to do very well in the X570 lineup across the board. -
What Ryzen 5000 CPU are you getting?
CADGuy23 replied to Thinkfreely's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I am getting the 5900X, upgrading from a 7700k. I wasn't sure if I was going to get an 8 or 12 core, since the 12 core is only $100 more I might as well pony up now. Still deciding on what board I want, X570 Asus prime pro is what I am leaning towards. -
can i use 2 of the same ram kits
CADGuy23 replied to Smackaroy's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
They do work generally, put them in and give it a shot. Worst case it doesn't post and you know for sure lol. -

If that's the case, upgrading to a 3080 would be unnecessary for a 1080p monitor. I think your processor is fine, it would be a pretty expensive upgrade for minor improvements in performance. You might want to get a 2k monitor and either a set of RAM or new ssd with the leftover budget. The 2080 is plenty capable at 2k. Ram is pretty cheap right now you can get a decent 16gb set for under $100.

Can you run your game on full screen window mode? That way you don't completely miss out on the game.
