  1. I've never been aware of that but maybe I'm just oblivious to it (I don't live in America last I checked). Throttling is only part of the problem it the ISPs could have it their way, we could see them providing 'internet packages' similar to tv packages on cable tv where you would have to pay extra to get access to services like Facebook, youtube or amazon. I think you can agree, it would be pretty crap if we had to pay more for a social media package along with our gaming and shopping packages or heaven forbid the business 'unlimited access package'!
  2. Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-trending-40494909?ocid=socialflow_facebook&ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbcnews&ns_source=facebook Just a heads up to those in the USA (I assume this will only happen in the USA...) who may see certain services 'slow down' in a bid to keep net neutrality. This will be in protest to the FCC reverting the net neutrality regulations made in 2015. I really wouldn't want this to happen and I think the majority of you think the same. Let's just hope we don't lose net neutrality, I can imagine Floatplane Media and LMG getting effected by this among meany others.
  3. If only it were that simple. As far as I can tell there is no where near enough to build your own version of windows. I guess we can always dream though . Ah right, I wonder if they will be taken to the USA to be charged. They have already been charged in the UK under the Computer Misuse Act. I'm not a lawyer, I wouldn't know .
  4. This report is from Thursday, they managed to report the arrest was before they reported the leak I would guess they are related, only time will tell.
  5. I am only quoting the article:- I am well aware that Linux is open source, but statistically those more likely to expose themselves to vulnerabilities are windows users. Malicious hackers tend to target the less tech-savy, and the efforts to find exploits in linux yield far less that that of windows or even OSX these days.
  6. I use both OSX and Windows. Although it may not effect your own computer, exploits with found in windows could be critical in society, need I remind you of wannacry... The source found is allegedly related to hardware. Quote from article: "The leaked code is Microsoft's Shared Source Kit: according to people who have seen its contents, it includes the source to the base Windows 10 hardware drivers plus Redmond's PnP code, its USB and Wi-Fi stacks, its storage drivers, and ARM-specific OneCore kernel code."
  7. Source : https://www.theregister.co.uk/AMP/2017/06/23/windows_10_leak/ So 32TBs of data has 'reportedly' been leaked online, including internal builds of windows 10 would have never been publicly released. Obviously this causes concern as it poses a threat to user security, as now malicious hackers have intricate resources to aid in finding harmful exploits. Since it first appeared on BetaArchive.com, administrators have removed / are in the process of removing the none public code, but I'm sure like many things, 'once it gets on the internet, it's never coming off'.
  8. I like the budget external GPU idea (I remember you showing a Chinese GPU adapter in a previous mailbox video). It wouldn't be practical but I would definitely be interested none the less. How about a video showing some of the worst performing *new* games. Batman Arkham Knight was awful on release, I'm sure there are other games out there that are terribly built (Train Sim World is my personal pet peeve ).
  9. A timed challenge is a little concerning because I'm dyslexic so reading/interpreting a brief could easily eat into my coding time. I would hate to be penalised because of it.
  10. You're absolutely correct, you can access the majority of a phones features via plugins, however, from my experience working on a past Cordova project, it felt like we spent more of the time fiddling with the accelerometer plugin than, the actual project itself. To be fair that was back in 2013/14 and I expect Cordova has improved significantly since. As I said, that's more my personal preference, I'd just rather build native myself.
  11. My First topic on the LTT forum, so please be kind Some of you may at some point in time have come across the insanely DLC heavy game known as 'Train Simulator' by DoveTail Games (DTG). It has over $4000 worth of DLC, some of which cost as much as a newly released title. However this is not my point of topic so I will move on. DTG have recently released the successor named "Train Sim World" developed in Unreal's UE4 engine. I expected this would end the abysmal performance of its predecessor which used a 7 year old in house game engine but boy was I wrong! Upon release the steam store page was flooded with enraged users, exclaiming about the extremely poor performance of the game with some of the top end gaming rigs achieving a measly 25-35fps. To be fair, DTG have since somewhat addressed the issue and have made efforts to scale some of its calculations across multiple threads. I will also add that the aesthetics of the game are great, but doesn't help when playing a stop motion game. I'm interested to hear other peoples thoughts on this, even experience on it if you own the game? Have you ever seen a game with poor performance like this before? From what I can tell it seems to be more of a CPU bottle neck rather than a GPU as with my Nvidia 970 it seems changing from low to high graphic presets in the game had little effect on the overall frame rate.
  12. Personally not a fan of cross platform app dev. It's alright for basic apps but when you need to use more of the low level components of the os it gets a little messy. Games are a bit of an exception here, with game engines like Unity3D being very versatile. For iOS the common practice is Swift with apples Xcode IDE and For Android Java in Android Studio or Eclipse (Eclipse being not so common these days). If you were looking at developing basic mobile apps that don't use features like camera/storage/accelerometer etc then you could use cross platforms like Cordova or PhoneGap to quickly whip up an app using HTML/CSS/JS. Note: Development of a backend would be required if you intend to persist/process data online (food for thought). I hope I haven't overwhelmed you with too much info, it's not as scary as it sounds and the majority of tools out there have grate support communities to assist you.
  13. Quite common on z270 itx boards to have ac wifi. I guess it's an SFF thing, because theres no room for a wifi expansion card if you have a GPU. Fits my description very well. I noticed you have the R5 1600, I've considered it with regards to price. But not sure if I want to, with the R71700/x 8C16T having that edge when running multiple processes. What are your thoughts, are you happy with a 6C12T?
  14. Interesting. TBH I've not heard good things on BIOSTAR, would also like some built in wifi Would rather Asus, GB or MSi. Definitely good news none the less!
