  1. My older brother had a cheap Acer laptop back in 2009 and that one served him a solid 4 years. If acer isn;t the option, is an i7-7500u Dell for $600 a better buy than the same Dell but with an i5-7200u at $510? On the topic of Linux, I have a second hand-me-down desktop that I installed Linux on for all my Linux needs.
  2. That laptop looks like a really good buy! However I don't believe I need that extra horsepower since I won't do gaming on it. I need something on the lighter side that can get me a full days work w/ a single charge and also have moderate power. Any other recommendations?
  3. Hey guys! So I just sold my old HP Folio 13-2000 because it was acting a little slow now and I find it clumsy for multitasking and programming. So now, I'm looking for a decent budget laptop around 600 or less. I already have a custom built desktop that has an RX 470 so I know that I won't need any gaming laptops as the integrated intel graphics will probably suit my needs. My main question is i5-7200u vs i7-7500u. I'm looking at around $500 for the i5 and $600 for the i7 (buying refurb products here). Should I be going for the i7? Or will the i5 be good enough for my multitasking and programming needs (Mostly heavy web browsing). A couple laptops I found: Acer Swift 3 i5-7200u (link) from Newegg Dell Inspiron 13-5378 i7-7500u (link) from Newegg If anyone has any other laptop suggestions, please post below. Thanks!
  4. It make me kinda wonder now.. the used 750Ti I own is the single fan edition and even at high GPU usages, I can't hear a peep from the GPU. My hard drive is another story though, that thing sounds like chicken fight even on idle.
  5. Exactly the one I saw. Isn't $20 less than most of the competitors worth the bad noise levels?
  6. Yea i'm reading a lot of low rated reviews on Newegg and Amazon for both Gigabyte and Powercolor GPUs. Although I did find an ASUS 480 OC on Newegg after rebate at $150. I've bough ASUS laptops in the past but never their GPUs. Are they any good?
  7. I think I am pretty much going to buy the Rx 480 4gb since I don't mod very often, a little bit in GTA V. Should I just buy the cheapest 480 4gb I can find? or Should I pick/avoid specific brands? Also I read an article about the Rx 570 and 580 being announced on April 18th. Should I wait til then to get better deals on the 470/480?
  8. An 8gb Rx480 sounds interesting! Although i see a lot of peeps on the internet say its for future-proofing and really doesn't give you a noticeable performance boost. What's your reason behind it?
  9. The 1050 Ti looks like a really nice card! But with the age of my 300W psu and computer, im slowly looking to replace the outdated components with parts that can accompany GPUs around $200. With that being said, I got my eyes on a CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W 80 PLUS BRONZE going for $40, thoughts on that? And I also would really like to get the most out of the $200 GPU budget I mentioned earlier. If I was limited to that $140-160 range though, I would definitely consider the 1050 Ti, unless you have a better reason to get it.
  10. Hello all, So i received a 2012 HP Pro 3500 Microtower PC from my dad's company for free after they were upgrading their office PCs, and it crossed my mind to turn it into a budget-minded 1080p gaming rig. I want to upgrade it to a good 1080p rig since I can only run modern games at playable fps on 720p mid to high settings. Current Specs: CPU: i5-3470 3.2GHz Motherboard: (Can't find anywhere on any HP site) RAM: x2 4gb DDR3 Storage: x2 500GB 7200 rpm HDD Power Supply: 300W active PFC GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti (Bought a couple years ago when i found a used one for sale) Case: HP Pro 3400 Microtower case I was browsing through the web and came across 3 GPU upgrade possibilities, an Rx 470 4gb, Rx 480 4gb, or a GTX 1060 3gb all around my budget of $200. Some of the bottleneck calculator sites also say that the Rx 480 and GTX 1060 will bottleneck my CPU... Any comments on that? Looking to upgrade: Power Supply (Looking at a EVGA 500W W1 80+) Case (Just purchased a Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 5) Storage (looking to get a M.2 ssd installed soon) If anyone has any recommendations or confusion regarding GPUs or any other part of my PC build, I would gladly appreciate seeing them Thank you! P.S. I hope I am posting in the correct section, please tell me which if not for future references thanks!
