If you are that set on cooling the card, why not get a full block?
It's pretty hard to get a full block 780 Ti cooler atm. Plus I'll be upgrading it within the year, so think I'll just wait it out.

Cool thanks.
What's the overall opinion on universal waterblocks? Obviously they aren't as aesthetically pleasing, but other than that?

A PSU that will be aging and close to failing. GPU is ancient if it's as old as the CPU and that's probably the reason why their PC is doing crap at rendering, not the CPU. In fact, a GTX 1060 pairs very nicely with the FX 8350 without much bottleneck (4% bottleneck according to thebottlenecker) therefore emphasising how the user's problem lies with the GPU, not the CPU as if there were problems with the CPU's speed it would not pair well with a MODERN GPU.
A decent PSU could last a lifetime, mine is running over 6 years at this point, touch wood.
We don't know what GPU they have, they've only asked about upgrading CPU and related components.
Also, you keep arguing that this CPU will hold up fine but everything else just has to be trash because it was bought a long time ago, what's that about.

Will RAM heatsinks cut it?

Just nabbed some cable sleeve from MDPC, start of the new build I'm planning soon, gonna get a head start on the PSU.

First, just check to make sure your pad switch isn't engaged, it'll take 20dB off the signal.
Next, turn your comp back pretty much all the way. Some of these cheaper boards will automatically gain the signal up after compression, but still you're as well have that off for now.
I'd say keep the 3 EQ channels pretty much flat, if you're recording into some software, you'd be able to do all that after very easily.
Turn the FX send down completely.
Now look at the gain knob at the top. Turn it up while speaking into the mic or making the sound you wish to record. Watch the 'peak' light at the bottom. Turn it up until it blinks a small bit, then back it off a bit from there for headroom.
Turn up your level 1 down the bottom.
I see phantom power is on, that's good.
Turn the FX down on the bottom right.
Now turn up on the 'level stereo' and watch the levels in your software. At this point you should be pretty much set on the desk. If you're still not getting enough at this point, you need more amplification, the pre amp in the desk won't cut it.
Also, try a different channel, could be as simple as a problem on Ch 1.

Hey there.
I've been into water cooling for a long time, but only getting my first real chance to look into it now. I have a GTX 780 Ti, which I plan on holding on to until the next gen cards come out. I was thinking about getting a decent universal block, like this one here, which could be used on both this and the future card.
First of all, does all of this sound like an okay plan?
Second, if I go ahead with this, what further cooling would be necessary. EKWB have these guys as needed for the RAM chips, but how do I go about cooling the rest of the card, VRM etc.
Thanks in advance.

What I have an issue with is singers who... just... can't... sing using it
I understand what you mean. I would see it as something used to make an already great performance a little bit better, but it shouldn't be used to polish a turd, or completely in the place of talent.

Completely depends on a large variety of factors, but if we're just talking about MP3 files, then yes, most people can hear the difference between MP3 -b 320 and MP3 V2 encoding. With decent headphones in a quiet-ish home-based setting, tracks that have cymbals and other high frequency sounds will sound noticeably crisper at MP3 -b 320 than at a lower encoding quality because there's more headroom to store the extra frequencies. This is extremely simplified though, as your headphones, playback hardware/software, or even ears will affect sound differently.
Bear in mind that this only applies to tracks that are mastered properly in the studio to begin with, meaning that almost every modern-day track will still sound like shit because studio's almost always master for perfect beat replication using loudness equalization and extreme levels of compression, and more disgustingly, auto-tune vocals of so-called "singers" as if it were going out of style. Good test albums to actually hear the difference between bitrates would be older versions of Pink Floyd's The Wall or Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy as they aren't mastered using cheap tricks to get noticed right away.
Full disclosure: I love my modern-day shit-mastered EDM and pop tracks just as much as Linus himself does, but it doesn't mean we can't also appreciate real music mastered back in the days when you had to listen for the faint sound of the strings in a hard rock song just to enjoy them.
Auto tune would be as much my issue to be honest, it's a tool that many musicians and band use for the whole process. I can understand people seeing it as cheating, but it is a tool. Would you get mad at a construction worker using a drill or a digger?
The loudness wars on the other hand, that's a pain. Open any modern song and look at the wave form and it's absolutely slammed to the limit. There's no dynamic range to pick out the nuances, and that sounds bad.

Are you interested in getting into overclocking in the future though?

You could always just sit opening and closing 50 tabs on chrome, that's probably what I'd do..
But you don't have to do something with it right now. I built what you were talking about a 'strictly gaming' PC, cos I didn't see myself needing to do video editing or that at the time. Year or so down the line I ended up needing to do a fair bit of it for college and personal stuff. So just because you don't need it now won't mean you won't need it at some stage! -
Pretty sure at the time it was my GTX 560ti, that PC is gone now though so it'd have to be my full laptop, G46VW! Still only one part

Hey guys! So in the last week or so, I've seen some artifacts while gaming on my pc playing payday 2 so it wasn't anything especially intensive. Anyways I tried to launch a game the other day, my pc fully crashed and froze instantly and now won't boot past the windows logo.
I've tried booting it with the igpu in my 2500k and it'll boot fine there. Any ideas? Specs are in my sig.

Went for a slick style on my TK, with a few changes!

Nope, my dad did get me interested in auto stuff, but tech was all me pretty much!

Hey guys! Been away from here for a while but I'm back for the foreseeable future!
Anyways, I'm thinking about building a wooden PC case as my summer project, and I'm wondering if any of you have some tips?
I have an old case I can offer up for motherboard tray, PCI slots etc, so that's pretty handy. I also have plenty of fans and that as I understand air flow will be pretty important so I'm gonna stick to the whole front intake back exhaust ethos. Other than an AIO I have no water cooling, but I'd like to leave it open to that in the future if I could, as in just some room in the basement for rads pumps and the like.
Anyone done anything like this before? Any advice really welcome!

i wouldn't bother with windows 7 ultimate, also see if you can get a school deal on it! in Ireland basically anyone can get cheaper rate OSes
-
Monitor first (still using a tv) then i'd say a new GPU! 560 ti is getting a bit tired at this stage...
-
Is there any upgraded pump or anuthing like that? I suppose these are aimed more at new customers, not upgrading ones really.
-
Nothing!
I had everything that interested me.
I had everything that interested me... but i still bought games!

go into your task manager and scout out what's in the running processes. It's not going to be as obvious as virus.exe but you might see something. Run all the virus checks too of course!
-
I just bought one from Dabs, they tend to up their prices as they get shorter on stock so watch out, they're not that cheap!
-
My outdated GTX 560 Ti gets around 150 hashes average (sometimes higher, sometimes lower, it fluctuates) when cudamining doge. Take that for what it's worth, my Clarkson loving friend.
yup mine gets about the same, with mabe 2-3 hours pool mining so far i have over 1000 doges!

i didn't even know there was types(pun intended)! i just hammer the keys.
How to cool rest of card with a universal waterblock on.
in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
Posted
Because this upgrade will be approx. 6 months to a year down the line, so I was seeing if getting a universal block, which could be used on both, would be worthwhile. But I think I'll just wait until the new card to go for a watercooled GPU.
