  1. According to a quick google, it's a C++ runtime you need for some programs. Someone else will know more though.
  2. I've tried the copy/paste into "Get Info" pane trick, but I can't get that trick to work for Safari or other default MacOS apps. Any ideas, or places I can find ways to change the icons in my Launchpad/Dock? Thanks!
  3. Elementary OS, hands down. At least, if you like minimalist design, which I do. EDIT: My browser glitched, sorry for the double post.
  4. Build looks good to me for 1080p ultra. You may want to go for a 2x4 solution for the RAM instead of 1x8 so you can run it dual channel, unless you plan on upgrading later. Also, Windows 10 will cost about the same if you just buy a transferable Home license from Windows, which would be a better choice IMO because you don't run into issues if you change your parts around later. (Pro is much more expensive... but do you actually need Pro, or do you just want to be able to say you have Win10 Pro?)
  5. So the 450w psu will technically be enough juice for what you're planning on doing. However, I'm not sure of the rating or tier level of that PSU. The quality, essentially. I'm not sure how well it can protect your components against surges and ripple and such. It could be fantastic tier 1, or (more likely) it's tier four or five at least, if not six or seven. I'm not sure where to find the PSU tier list, but @Droidbot created it I believe.
  6. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QPsmd6 Here ya go. Should be compatible. Don't worry about the RAM, it should be fine. Double check the stats from the Node 202 and that graphics card though; I've never heard of that brand of GPU, but that might be a function of my location.
  7. That will probably work? As @Fruitsnacc said, if you put everything into pcpartpicker it'll tell you if your parts are compatible in terms of size. Also, lesson from experience: Do NOT cheap out on your PSU.
  8. Maybe OP should go for a Vega if he wants to go AMD. Otherwise, for the price of two 580s, you could get at least a 1070ti right now, if not a 1080 or 1080ti on the right sale, which would absolutely annihilate the two 580s in pretty much anything. EDIT: Oh. Two other people already said this. Oops.
  9. The pci-e wireless card I have in my custom desktop slows down internet access for every computer on my network to a crawl, relative to normal speeds, even when the computer is simply on but not in use (no downloads or games running). I have an Airport Extreme 7.7.8 router and my wireless card is the Rosewill RNX-AC1900PCE. I'm currently running a firmware update on the router, but does anyone know why this could be happening and how to fix it? I do have the most current driver for the wireless card, so far as I can tell. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
  10. I'm a big fan of the G502, but I haven't tried the other two. Build looks good to me. Good luck!
  11. Build looks good as is, to me. I'm personally a fan of AMD's stuff generally, so I would go with the R5 1600 suggested above. However, the difference won't be anything to write home about between the two, as far as I'm aware. It's really a matter of preference at this moment in time. As to what the future holds in terms of games taking advantage of more cores, I have no clue. I'm not a game designer, or a CPU engineer. Get either, they should both be fine for a bit. Good luck with the build! Oh! One more thing. If you can, I would pony up for some extra RAM. 16gb will go a long way in gaming, particularly poorly optimized games such as-guess what- PUBG. Also being able to run dual channel will help you out. Basically, don't make my mistakes.
  12. Definitely C haha, but thanks for checking.
  13. No. I just noticed that my GPU temps were hitting the low 100s after only half an hour of Overwatch. I'm thinking that it's likely because my case is badly ventilated more than anything else, so that will likely be solved by extra case fans. I think I remember my CPU getting hot as well, but I haven't tested that in a while.
  14. I'm having trouble finding the PSU tier list. Can you recommend one for me?
  15. Thanks, everyone! It's looking like I should upgrade RAM > Cooler > extra case fans > PSU, so that's the order I'll work in. At some point I'll also replace the case for aesthetics.
  16. Would you say the RAM or the PSU first? What are the tradeoffs? I have no idea. I'll need to check that once I get home for the holidays before I pack up my computer to ship to school.
  17. I've actually already got an SSD and two hard drives in there. Sorry, I should have specified. Fixing post now. And yes, it computes. But it gets burning hot and I get weird framerate drop in some games. I'm aware that I need more RAM and more case fans, as well as an aftermarket cooler, but I'm wondering what people are recommending to do FIRST from those things.
  18. I built this computer (my first build, huzzah) about nine months ago, and looking back, and knowing what I know now, I see some problems, by which I mean many, many problems and I have no idea where to start. Given $100 ish to spend on upgrading/fixing it, what would you do first? Would you flip any parts? CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 (stock speeds) Cooler: Stock Wraith Cooler GPU: EVGA GeForce 1060 6gb SSC PSU: EVGA 430 Watt 80+ certified RAM: 1x8gb Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2666 Motherboard: MSI B350M Mortar Case: Thermaltake Versa H15 (1 case fan) 1x SK Hynix 120gb SSD, 1x WD Blue 1tb, 1x Seagate Barracuda 1.5tb Thanks!
  19. Are you planning on using the NAS via WiFi? It would be ideal if you could physically wire it in. Other than that, as far as I understand about NAS requirements, that build looks great. The other one, I don't have the expertise to comment on. EDIT: I apologize, I just reread your post. Are you planning to set up a separate network for just the NAS, with no internet access? If so, isn't that as little clunky? Wouldn't it be better to connect the NAS to your router and use FreeNAS or something to store your files?
  20. Build looks great! It might even be overkill for some of those games, assuming you're playing at 1080p. This will absolutely slay 1440p 144hz gameplay though. Looking forward to the log. Maybe some more case fans would be helpful, though.
  21. You could try a refurbished workstation with 2nd or 3rd gen i5 and buy a low profile GTX 1050 or RX 560, but I would agree that ebay is a good place to look as well. Best of luck in the build.
  22. I say the SSD is a must in this day and age. One that size? Maybe not, but hey, it's OP's money. Agree. OR you could save that extra cash and spend it on that potential upgrade down the line for more demanding games, or, if you don't need the upgrade, trick out the PC with some sick peripherals and RGB. Best of luck with the build!
