  1. its really up to you. for the computers i build i always buy used. as long as you buy from a reputable seller you should be good. here’s a few examples all with sellers over 99% positive feedback 1070 https://www.ebay.com/itm/155350578230?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=2bCBlDMmSmy&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=ZqvfcQYkSbC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY 1080 https://www.ebay.com/itm/325364269767?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Bur8NZm3S4y&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=ZqvfcQYkSbC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY 1080ti https://www.ebay.com/itm/165909653034?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=i8UdcXQWSZW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=ZqvfcQYkSbC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  2. should be a very solid build! if you want some advice you can go on ebay and purchase a used gtx 1070 for around $130, and it will preform similarly to a 1660ti. or alternatively a 1080 will run you about $200, 1080ti around $240. that’s if you’re willing to go used. as for everything else it all looks good. i’ve personally used the gamdias apollo case and it was great to work with, very nice fans aswell although not a ton of airflow. i’m a big fan of the button controlled ARGB fans. here’s a pic of mine that i’ve sold
  3. recently i purchased an i7 5775c for my ASUS z97-pro gamer motherboard. currently i have 16gb of hyperx fury 1866mhz DDR3 ram. upon installing the new cpu, the system simply did not boot. after removing a few sticks the system booted correctly. i cannot for the life of me get the system to POST with more than 2 sticks of ram installed. did some more research on the 5775c and intel specifies it takes DDR3L memory at 1.35V. the hyperx kit i have is 1.5V but everywhere else i look online says it shouldn’t matter what ram i have in the system. even with that, undervolting and underclocking the ram did nothing. the system works perfectly fine with my xeon e3 1220 v3 processor with all ram installed, so i know the mobo or the ram cannot be defective. should i bite the bullet and buy a kit of ddr3L or is there anything else i can try with my kit? full specs i7-5775c asus z97 pro gamer 16gb hyperx 1866mhz memory gtx 1080ti kingston a400 240gb WD blue 1tb stock intel cpu cooler thermaltake 700w rgb no chassis at the moment
  4. Well the main reason I want a 1070 is because the 1650 super cannot keep up with a 144hz monitor and in the future I will get one. A 1070ti is around 240 though, so I may get one of those.
  5. Ok so my birthday is coming up and I wanted to get myself something nice and you can get a gtx 1070 for around $200 usd here in the US. Is it a bad idea to buy now? The rtx 3070 and 3060 will be coming out soon and big Navi as well, but their lower end cards won’t be coming for a while. I don’t think prices will change much in the coming months but my 1650 super may drop in value quicker (currently going for $130 on eBay) What do you guys think?
  6. Just asked the seller and he said that when he first got the board he made that mistake lol. Let’s hope he didn’t make any other mistakes using this board
  7. Ok so it’s probably just the controller for the FireWire port, plugged in a FireWire header and no luck with it. I guess it’s a good thing FireWire is dead
  8. It’s not a connector as far as I can tell, I think it may be a controller for some kind of port around it
  9. I bought this board about a month ago and everything looked fine on it and now I’m taking a closer look at it and there’s something burnt on the bottom of it. I looked back on the original listing pic and it’s there. I’ve been using it just fine and got a stable OC of 4ghz on an i7 960 so it must be non essential. The board is an msi x58a-gd45. I think it may be the connection for the FireWire port and the previous owner plugged in a usb connector on it or something. Any help is appreciated
  10. This is a high quality board though, the capacitors on it are rated for 14yrs if used stock (according to the box). But if it does fail, whoever buys one of my PCs gets my business card with my email on it. If there are any problems down the line with the board down the line I’ll be responsible.
  11. Yeah I’m sure I’m looking at the right numbers. I guess I’ll heed your advice, it’s a shame too it looks like I won the silicon lottery with this one. I suppose it’s better than getting an angry email 1 year down the line saying the pc fried itself
  12. Alright so I got a deal from a friend on an i7 960 16GB of G.SKILL RipjawsX and an msi x58a-gd45 motherboard for $50. He got it new in 2011 and never overclocked on either the chip or the board. I’m planning to use this in a cheap gaming rig to sell locally but I wanted to see how it overclocks first. I got it up to 4.02 ghz without touching any voltages with the cpu multiplier at 175x23. I’ve been running cinebench r20, prime 95, Aida 64 and playing games on it all day and haven’t had any problems yet. The max temp I got on a hyper 212 evo is 85C with room temps around 30C. The voltage stays constant at 1.28v on the cpu core. From what I’ve heard most of these chips need around 1.38v to be stable. I’m pretty new to overclocking and never did it on a platform as old as this. I want to know, is this sustainable? Is it a good idea to sell it this way? I got a reasonable improvement in games and cinebench r20 scores went from 1062 to 1301. Any experience is greatly appreciated
  13. Ill probably underclock it, just to be safe
  14. Its a 500BQ and theyre EVGA ACX FTW 780s, theyre pretty high quality and the guy I bought them from had them underclocked to stock speeds
  15. try reseating the ram/ PSU cables/ GPU, maybe they came loose after a while. If that doesnt work you can try another power supply but as you said you dont have any spare parts to test with. Maybe ask a friend you know if they have one you can try
  16. yeah I got an EVGA 500W and my r5 1600AF isnt overclocked, I think Ill be fine with that for a few months
  17. If you wait for the new gpu generation to come out used prices on cards like the gtx 1660 or even gtx 1070 are going to drop a fair bit. A nice 1650 super goes for around $170 and even right now a 1070 goes for around $200 on ebay. I would wait maybe a few months to see if those prices go down. If not and you cant spend the extra $40 the 1650 super isnt bad at all
  18. Ok so I just recently started building and selling computers and got a great deal on 3 gtx 780s for $60 each. The OG plan was just to use these in the next few computers I built BUT I tested them in my system and the preformance in the games I play isn't too far off of my new 1650 super that I bought a few months back for $160. Would it be a good idea to sell my 1650 super for around $140 (New ones go for $170 now and it is practically new with box) and use the gtx 780 until a new gpu generation comes out and I can pick up a deal on something like a used 1070 for maybe $200. Id get a fair amount of the money I spent on the GPU back AND the price of GPUs is going to go down dramatically because of new RDNA2 and Ampere GPUS coming on the market soon. Plus I still get to use the GTX 780 in a build down the line. Thoughts?
  19. Found a great deal on a few psus on office depot of all places. They have an EVGA BQ and a BR variant, with the BR being about $15 cheaper. I know the BQ is modular but im already well over budget (prices are going up because of corona) and I'm not sure if I want to pay a premium for that modularity. Is the BQ made out of higher quality materials than the BR? I'll pay more for that because high quality psus are super expensive now.
  20. The wraith stealth needs the backplate in the back of the motherboard, if you don’t have it you might need to buy a new cooler with its own backplate.
  21. Made a post about this a few days ago but now I have the GPU in my possession so I can do further testing with it. The GPU in qestion is an MSI Armor RX 570 with 8gb of vram. Was in my cousins PC for about a year and he decided to reuse it for his new custom pc that I built for him. In the old PC this problem happened rarely and could be managed. But now it is impossible to play games for more than 10 minutes without the thing crashing. When it crashes it goes to whatever color on the screen was most prominent. Its not an overheating issue, the card rarely reaches 60 degrees celcius when in a game. It doesnt just crash when it gets warm, it also crashes when it is moved bumped or even just tapped lightly. The interesting thing is, it doesnt react to bumps when its idling at temps of 30 degrees celcius, only when it reaches higher temps. Another interesting thing is it is much harder to make it crash when moving it upwards, when I press downwards on it it crashes much more easily. Thought it may have only been a problem with the ports so i tried with all 3 DP ports, the hdmi and the DVI port, all had the same issues. Tried it in 3 different PCs and all had the same problem. I even connected a second display to my integrated gpu and played games with the card while afterburner was running on the second screen. When the card crashed it took the other display with it, freezing it. Luckily I was able to take a picture of the temps and utilization while the screen was frozen. Any Ideas on why this was happening? I thought it may have been a broken capacitor or there were fractures on the pcb, but i found nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated OEUD8523[1].MP4
  22. Yeah he said he would give it to me for $20 I’ll take it and do something with it
  23. Put together a pc for my cousin and he was reusing his rx 570 from his old build. Whenever the card is slightly moved the card crashes. We put the card in a different pc and it did the same thing and used a different card in his pc and it worked just fine. Im pretty sure it has a bad contact. Is there any way to fix this or will we just have to buy a new gpu.
