  1. I just got a new 2TB HDD for my PC, and in setup it wants me to choose between MBR and GPT. Does it matter which one I use?
  2. I don't think it should, but test it out and see if it does fit
  3. yea the case is most definitely being cheaped out on. thanks for the suggestion. edit: also what are the benefits of a more expensive board? @amdorintel
  4. The wires are fine. They won't melt. Make sure all connections are secure. The graphics card should go in the top slot usually I think.
  5. wait @Jurrunio @Adorable Cat what ram do you actually recommend tho?
  6. yea I was gonna put some different one in
  7. That ram was put in there temporarily thanks for remiding me i'll update it the case actually we're not getting bc i have and old empty case and we're just gonna use that
  8. I helped my friend put together a pcpartpicker list for his computer. Any thoughts or suggestions on the build? He's on a budget so I'm trying to get most bang for buck.
  9. You don't even have to completely do a fresh install. Just follow this- https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12415 (always make sure to backup your files)
  10. So we have StockX for shoes where you can see the price graph and sell and bid, and for pc parts we have pcpartpicker and ebay. My idea is basically a combination of pcpartpicker and ebay. You can see the price history, buy, sell, and bid, all in one place. Take this example and this one . Now combine them. That's the gist of my idea. I don't have the means or ability to pursue this idea or anything but if anyone wants to steal my idea go ahead I think it's a good one. (like at least gimmie 1% profits or something lmao)
  11. Go for a ryzen board, even the lowest level ryzen chip is pretty cheap and powerful and a good value, but you can still upgrade to a faster one, and if they release a new Ryzen chip, it will still be compatible with the AM4 board. Intel can have inconsistent socket upgrades which isn't the best for futureproofing.
  12. Consider running an ethernet cable, or if not possible, try one of those wifi boosters so you don't use up your mobile data. For the wifi on the computer, either built in motherboard wifi or a wifi pci card both will work equally as well, go for whichever one is cheaper.
  13. I'm not really trying to make it a gaming computer guys, I'm just trying to upgrade it so it can function just for regular web browsing and stuff as an extra computer.
  14. Uh ok, so what's the fastest single core processor then compatible?
  15. Ok, I am heavily considering the Q6600 because it is within my price range and is significantly faster than what I have right now.
  16. My friend found his old Dell Dimension in his basement, and we were hoping to fix it up to run substantially for under $50. Here are the specs for the computer currently. Here are the things I need help with: -I was considering buying a cheap faster cpu for the socket which is an LGA775 socket so I don't know what the fastest cpu for that socket is for the best price.(edit) -Going to put some more ram in, but idk how much more I should buy though, it has 2 500mb DDR2 sticks rn. -I'd also buy the cheapest ssd possible, probably less than 100 GB is fine, i don't care about the speed of the ssd, anything is faster than the old hard drive. -Considering putting a new GPU in, but I have no idea which gpu is best for the system as I don't know old gpus that well. -Finally I need a windows 7 file boot drive to download windows 7 to it, and I can't seem to find one, as microsoft only has boot drives for win 10 on their website. I'm going with windows 7 because it runs faster on slower systems I think unless I'm wrong here I'll just go with windows 10. Remember I'm hoping all this can be done with a budget of under $50-$60 which I don't think should be too hard because the hardware is old and I'm fine with buying whatever is cheapest used from ebay or wherever. Thanks
