I'm not sure if you've every tried to listen to music on a 8 hour flight, but you can damage your hearing if you try to drown out ambient noise with just music.

Bose QC25 or 35 if you want wireless. The new sony MDR-1000X is also class-leading. Some people claim better than Bose.
Do elaborate on the "negative" experience you had with a $2 knockoff ANC headphone.
