Actually you shouldn't go Threadripper but with the i9 9900K instead if you can afford this kind of hardware, the Intel i9 9900K will outperform the TR 2950X on all of Adobe software, even on Premiere Pro rendering thanks to the iGPU hardware acceleration.

Cinema 4D most features like deformers, generators and cloners also can only work off single core, making the i9 have superior performance when it really matters your actual editing work.

Hey Princess Candence ^_^,

Mind if I ask, just out of curiosity... lol, have MAXON themselves or any YouTubers in the community who use CINEMA-4D a lot shown and explained why the software itself prefers Intel's somewhat latest i7 and i9 CPUs over say.. Ryzen or even Threadripper for heavy workloads/projects? Because I'm thinking about getting an AMD Threadripper Rig in 2019 perhaps for mostly 3D-Modelling and other Rendering stuff.

I just wanted to ask you because some comments on other forums have got Me very confused as you might have guessed, haha, about how Threadripper is more or less equal in terms of performance and pricing but now I'm not 100% sure if that's correct. So basically what I'm asking is this. Should I still stick with Threadripper do you think?

Thanks

    Basic explanation...
Intel typically have higher frequencies and better single core performance. AMD CPUs, in particular Threadripper, have lower single core performance but just have a bunch of cores. If the program can scale well and use lots of cores, Threadripper can have an advantage. If the program relies on single core performance, Intel will often beat it.

As @Princess Cadence mentioned, some video editing software can also utilise a feature of Intel CPUs with integrated graphics called "QuickSync" which uses the integrated graphics processor inside the CPU to assist in transcoding tasks, which is why the Intel CPUs may perform better in software that can use QuickSync, despite having less cores.

@Xiauj Hello there! As @Spotty resumed there are enough peculiarities to consider but sometimes an i7 8700K build can be a much better price to performance alternative to building a fancy TR 2950X workstation.

This article does a great job explaining it: https://www.cgdirector.com/best-cinema-4d-pc/

But in shorts people may focus too much solely on rendering times which is the easiest thing to quantify without giving credit where it's deserved, even the most multi-threaded software still have codes or features in them that are highly depended on single thread performance.

Lets take After Effects as an example, but have in mind all other features like warps, stabilizers, previews and so on all benefits on the stronger single threaded performance of intel:

    pic_disp.php?id=47172&width=800&height=8

    pic_disp.php?id=47174&width=800&height=8

    pic_disp.php?id=47173&width=800&height=8

As we can see on these important workloads the Ryzen processors all lag behind the i7 8700K, although should be noted that the cheaper i3 and i5 due to the less threads will struggle more, so we can't cheap up That much to keep the performance high, but any i7 or now i9 on Coffee Lake line up will perform greatly.

Taking into account Threadripper 2nd gen won't have better single thread than the Ryzen 7 2700X it won't out-pace Intel here.

    -

Then you might ask yourself "but I do need to render faster! so Threadripper is still justified!" Well not quite, at least on Adobe and Sony Vegas and any other application that might add QuickSync support is giving Intel a tremendous advantage:

    6_ask-gn.png

Just enabling iGPU QuickSync is allowing the i7 8700K to actually Match the rendering potential of the first gen TR 1950X which mind you has 10 cores / 20 threads MORE.

So really, this is not about being Intel fanboy, I actually HATE Intel business practices and trust me I'm counting on Zen2 being a success but as it is right now we do have a clear winner in value as the i7 8700K or i7 9700K are much cheaper than the high end Threadripper chips, on a cheaper platform.

Like in Linus last video, PCI-e Lanes and Quad-Channel memory is the only thing HEDT has going for and if you don't need these things (and up to 32gb of system memory there's no difference between Dual Channel and Quad Channel) you really shouldn't pay the premium of a HEDT system.

Huh. Interesting. Very interesting indeed. o.O:D Still a bit confused but not as much now, definitely a lot clearer compared to other comments I've seen, lol.

Oh and by the way @Princess Cadence, seeing as we're talking about CINEMA-4D etc.., I'm definitely/probably gonna be thinking about saving up for a better GPU to do some GPU-Rendering-based tasks like say for example: Octane/RedShift/VRay - But... ?, what would You recommend, perhaps? I'm not sure on a 20 series card like a 2070 or 2080 but I honestly dunno if their are much better options currently.

I'm currently using a GTX 650 Ti which is not the best at all in CINEMA-4D, so yeah, I definitely need some newer options lol That and because I don't trust the other comments I've been reading on other forums haha

These have very up-to-date data, down the line stuff like the 1080 Ti / TITAN Xp / 2080 / 2080 Ti have more performance but not always meaningful enough to crack your head around it.

A value orientation purchase seems to lie on the GTX 1070 Ti which can still be had for considerably cheap brand new and has superb performance compared to any thing previous generation had to offer, even on the "pro/enthusiast" market.

A random moment just happened, lol. I saw this and it reminded Me of this CINEMA-4D Status-Update straight away, dunno why xDxD Looks pretty neat/impressive with Ryzen/Threadripper as shown.
