  1. ah ok gotcha. it might be a good idea to reseat things like ram too, just inc ase it's a loose connection or something. you never know. also does the Event Viewer in Windows show you any useful errors?
  2. i had a similar problem, turns out after 6 months of troubleshooting i had a bad pci-e slot and everytime there was a lot of vibration or my pc got a knock it would freeze. maybe see if it's anything like that, like try to put your gpu in the other slot and see if that helps.
  3. oh wait i know what this is, it's aero snap. you can disable it in settings as shown here: https://www.msftnext.com/disable-aero-snap-windows-10/
  4. what gpu do you have? what version of Windows 10?
  5. i don't know the solution, maybe go back to 1909 for now? i dunno.
  6. that's interesting. i haven't experienced that. what hardware do you have?
  7. the problem was google logged it on android, even if it was disabled.
  8. maybe because android is a privacy hellhole and a buggy mess but other than that i don't get it either.

  10. NO FREEZES!!!

i played some games of overwatch and even hit the side of my case as a test (before that would lock it up instantly) and nothing! it's fixed!!!!!

  11. in all seriousness though what? i've never seen someone so fragile. listening to female singers now invalidates your masculinity? i guess i should only listen to female singers then because if i hear a male voice singing my femininity is magically gone?
  12. you went through every setting to make sure it's default? you also checked task manager and stuff to make sure it's running at stock speeds?
  13. pc froze again, i moved the gpu to the other (good) slot. not ideal for airflow but we'll see what happens.

Your GTX 690 could be half dead at this point or a PCIe slot on your Mobo is bad. But otherwise you've got yourself a pretty good Rig, CPU and GPU is what I would be looking to upgrade. Also nice you've got a pair of Sony XM3s, Ima get the new Sony XM4s once I've got cash again to spend on Hardware 👀👂

@soldier_ph it's not the 690. i currently have my R9 290X in it and the issue also happened with a known good RX460. that slot was just bad, since i put the card in the other slot it's been 100% stable. before i'd have 3 crashes a day at least, now it's been on all day without any problems.

  14. I FIGURED OUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY PC!!!

i have a bad pci-e slot. basically i swapped the 290X back in being like well, let's try this again, and i noticed something. i put the card in, connected it and it was working. i pushed the computer back in it's place, and it froze, rebooted and then black screen. i couldn't get it to post after that.

so, i pulled it back out, opened it up and pushed the card down into the slot and it worked again. pushed the computer back in it's original spot under the desk and black screen again. i then reached around it without moving it, pushed the card down and now it's working.

so, i'm gonna see how it runs like this without touching it, if it continues freezing i'll try a different pci-e slot.

  15. never mind it froze again...

Darn. Time to run the troubleshooting gauntlet again! Hopefully its not a hardware fault.

@DrMacintosh i did notice the vague performance mode thing in the bios was set to max performance for some reason, i didn't remember ever touching that but i set it to auto and that adjusted a load of cpu settings so hopefully that was it

  16. i figured out why my pc was freezing.

    the problem was

    drumroll

    MSI Afterburner.

if it's open and a custom fan curve is applied then my pc crashes after a while.

if it's not open (i uninstalled it) then everything is fine.

I've been having lots of issues with hardware monitoring software. HW monitor made my PC take like 5min to shutdown the other day.

@DrMacintosh i could live with 5 minute shutdown time. the symptoms here were a bit more severe.

the symptom was that after some gaming the pc would lock up, like you can hear it in the audio that it's frozen, the displays would go black and the gpu fan would spin up to 100% and stay there until you force rebooted the pc.

that's a little more annoying than a long shutdown.

      Yeah, that's unusable.

  17. anyway @TofuHaroto @Oswin shall i text him to order the parts?
  18. i should also say that selling the existing parts for a bit more budget isn't a good idea, because this will be his onyl computer and he also needs it for school. should something suddenly break i want him to have spare parts.
  19. i picked it because it was che cheapest tbh, we're at €611 total rn and his budget was €600 max, but he said this is fine still. i don't really wanna go much higher.
  20. ok so my brother needs some significant upgrades. his current build: i3 7100 B250M-DS3H (iirc) 8GB 2400mhz DDR4 (2x4gb) GTX 1050 Corsair TX550M random ssd and hdd Thermaltake Vesa H13 case he wants to play games like Rainbow Six Siege, Ghost Recon Wildlands, among others on all ultra at 1080p 60fps. this machine currently can't do that. he also does some game development/programming on the side, as well as some video editing. i was looking for parts to upgrade this machine and i want to go AMD for him, but i want this list to be looked over one more time because i'm familiar with AMD up to AM3+, i know nothing about AM4. new build: AMD Ryzen 3600 included cooler MSI B450M PRO-VDH MSI GTX 1660 Super Ventus XS OC Corsair Vengeance 16GB 3200mhz DDR4 (2x8gb) parts that will remain: the ssd and hdd, both are still working fine i see no reason to replace those. the Corsair TX550M, again still works fine and 550W should be enough for this right? the case. i might put some front intake fans in it because currently it only has rear exhaust installed, is that a good idea?
