  1. I would encourage you to check out Wyze Cameras. If you can place the Outdoor Basestation near a window that has line of site to the barn, it's something worth considering. I use them for home security and they have pretty good coverage. Bonus of the Wyze outdoor cams is that they have built in battery back up, so if you lose power they'll keep recording.
  2. Summary Foxconn increasing their non-China manufacturing presence in order to avoid tariffs imposed on electronics originated from China. Quotes My thoughts With the increase of tensions between China and the USA, this shift of manufacturing process out of China will be a win for consumers. The cost of importing electronics from China have increase quite considerably over the last couple of years due to tit-for-tat increases in tariffs across the board. It is unlikely that these savings will be passed down to consumers in the form of lowered prices for goods, but it would reason to say that landed costs for the manufacturing to delivery will stay rather steady. 3. I've not had any issues with airflow and temps. with the intake right next to the video card temps have not been an issue. You can always look at this build that Linus and Luke built in a SFF case as well. or the Sequal: Smaller and Better....
  4. I'm using the Corsair H100i as my CPU cooler. CPU Temps generally sit at 22C at idle and at the end of running the Unigine Heaven Benchmark it sits at about 65C. Noise wise it's negligible and it's really all up to the cooler and gpu that you get. The case fan itself it's pretty quite at full speed however. With the fans on the MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G at full speed there is a fair amount of noise, if you have your gaming audio turned down, but if your playing a game fan noise isn't really going to be an issue. Under normal HTPC application use, there is no noise since the temps don't reach high enough temperatures to kick the fans on. There is magnetic mesh on the inside on the top and GPU side, no mesh on the rear exhaust or the psu exhaust. there is also an external mesh cover that is slotted in on the bottom for the PSU intake. Overall though it's pretty quite. I would definitely recommend this case to anyone looking for a small form factor build.
  5. Fractal Core 500 will support a full ATX power supply, I'd recommend going with the Silverstone SX600-G it's a 600W SFX power supply and fully modular. Here's a link to the forum where I posted the pics of my build so you can get an idea of how everything fits in there. https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/679617-zippy-my-first-build/ http://pcpartpicker.com/b/tzbj4D - more thorough build guide with parts listings.
  6. I do in fact have them set to push air through the radiator. However the margin of difference between push-pull is generally negligible.
  7. I've added another 2TB HDD from a WD MyBook NAS that I found in one of my storage containers that wouldn't show up on the network, after a couple of days of trouble shootings. I ended up pulling it out of the enclosure and just connecting in via SATA next to my other HDD. More pics have been added to show the mount for the SFX-PSU (the silver plate is the adapter) and the HDD/SSD mounting points. If you try to use all 4 mounting points, it would be pretty tight between the SATA power and motherboard connectors. I've now got 2x 2TB HDD (file storage) and 1x 256 M.2 SSD (boot drive).
  8. Bad news folks, if you bought the "qualifying" graphics card via Amazon you won't be getting the Gears Of War promo. There were too many people ordering a qualifying video card, getting the download code instantly, and then cancelling their order, playing the system so to speak. So if you want the Gears Promo then you'll have to buy it from one of the retailers listed on Nvidia's website.
  9. You could definitely try that since you know your friends RAM sticks work. You could try your ram in theirs as well to check both.
  10. Probably not as long as you've got it installed in the right DIMMS like your manual says. If it is a ram issue, I would get two more of the exact same sticks and just install it in all four slots.
  11. Use your DVI connection to initially set up the computer instead of using the HDMI port. If that works you'll need to do a bios update in order to get it to work.
  12. Are you connecting via HDMI or DVI-D. Recommend using the DVI-D for the initial connection if you can. I initially had issues with the HDMI ports on that and my video card.
  13. You should connect to a regular monitor using a DVI-D cable vs initially connecting via HDMI. You'll need to update your drivers before the HDMI ports will work for some reason. I had this same issue with my GTX 1070. The HDMI would not output properly until I updated all of the drivers. Then voila it worked with no issues.
  14. For the last 10 years I've only had mid-range windows laptops and my 2012 MacBook Air. I've been wanting to get into PC gaming and seeing the numbers my roommate's PC was putting up and lot of LTT, BitWit, Pauls Hardware, and JaysTwoCents I finally settled on all the parts. When you initially connect it, you'll need to connect it via a DVI-D cable to update all your drivers, initial HDMI output to the TV and HDMI monitor was the only frustrations issue I came up against with the MSI video card. PC Part Picker List ~ $1500 USD after purchasing the Windows 10 Pro key. CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Motherboard: Asus Z170I PRO GAMING Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory Storage: Intel 600p Series 256GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Video Card Case: Fractal Design Core 500 Mini ITX Desktop Case Power Supply: Silverstone 600W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular SFX Power Supply I purchased everything on Amazon due to availability, except the case which I got from NCIXUS, due to availability. I've seen some build logs where folks put full size ATX power supplies in this case, which it does support, but definitely recommend the SFX form factor as it leave plenty of room for cable management. I've set the radiator up into a push configurations to draw the cool air in over the radiator, and the case fan as the exhaust. The Silverstone power supply came with an included bracket to to allow it to fit into the ATX positioned brackets on the case. If you don't use the bracket your power supply won't fit properly. I chose the Intel 600p M.2 drive as the boot drive for the sake of saving some space and having the ability to add more storage inside the case in the future. There is no way to get to the back of motherboard after you have mounted it, so you'll have to make sure to install the M.2 and the CPU cooler brackets before installing it on the stand offs. Pictures are attached and initial benchmarks shown. More benchmarks to come for AAA titles as I buy and install them. Let me know what you guys think or if you have suggestions on what I could have done better.
