  1. I feel like I should invest for a larger NIC, as that would make the process easier.
  2. Yes, I am looking to separate my networks for Guest usage, production usage and smart devices.
  3. Which device should I do the subnets and vlans through?
  4. Hello everyone! I have recently started using PfSense at home and would like some advice on how I should use DHCP. My current setup is as follows: ARRIS Surfboard Modem -> PfSense -> Cisco SG300-10 -> Other switches and devices If I want to use different IP addresses for switches (Example: One switch starts at 192.168.2.1 another starts at 192.168.3.1) should I use the Cisco switch for DHCP or the PfSense box? Any advice is appreciated as this is my first time using a firewall. Regards, Van
  5. This is the wireless connection at my school. I got this about 28 feet away from the closest router on my Surface 3. \ Wired is more like a Gigabit up and down.
  6. What do you think of this? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816101357&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Server+-+Accessories-_-N82E16816101357&gclid=CjwKEAjwwcjGBRDj-P7TwcinyBkSJADymblTqDXZbUZ1iAEq4j6JMvozciAgmuybXmNQmis9f3RdTBoCmafw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
  7. I'm willing to do some slight mods. Not really into shelves.
  8. Hey there everyone. I have a home server cabinet with a depth of 1000mm, and I have some custom computers in some chassis's I bought off of Newegg. I currently have them mounted via shelf, but I would rather screw some sliding rails into them. Here is the link to the case: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811219032 I had no luck finding any.
  9. I want 2 of the drives in a raid 5, and the other 2 disks individual. Effectively this will let me make 3 network drives. I will have one 4TB share and two different 2TB shares. I'll look into it. Thank you.
  10. I was under the impression that Ubuntu and Ubuntu Server were almost exactly the same except for Ubuntu came with a GUI and Ubuntu Server did not...
  11. Currently in my last year of high school. I looked into DreamSpark, which is now Imagine, and it was not available for me.
  12. Thank you! I'll try this after I finish the machine and setup everything. Does anyone know of any affordable Windows Server license keys though? Again, I am not looking for virtualization.
  13. I have one x1 for my managed switch, and the other 4 are for other servers. I forgot to add the raid card in this list.
  14. Hi there everyone! I need a little help picking an operating system for my new storage server. All the computers in my home are Windows based, and I want to keep it that way. I want this server to list 4 2TB network drives for everyone on my network to write or read from. I know I can do this within Windows Server, but I cannot really afford that type of license. Is there a way I can do this with Linux? Perhaps Ubuntu?...
