  1. You can refer to this thread for more clarity on this: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1225873-4000mhz-cl18-vs-3600mhz-cl16/. For the RAM kit, it depends on what you're looking for honestly. Judging by your parts, if I had to buy one I would go for the Trident Z Neo series of RAM kits as the Neo series is supped to be optimized for Ryzen and they look really good (I've been using the Trident Z series of RAM for about 3 years now). You should watch this video by Gamers Nexus on what's the best RAM for Ryzen for more insight on this topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IY_KlkQK1Q&feature=emb_title
  2. I was looking to buy a new laptop and did some research on my own but I would love your suggestions. My primary use case is coding and light video editing. Battery life and portability should be the main focus along with a good, color accurate display. A 4k or touch display isn't a necessity. Also, Is it a good idea to wait for a few months for the Ryzen laptops to come out? My budget is around US $1400. Thanks a lot for your time!
  3. Let's all take a moment and appreciate all the CPUs and GPUs that have been running 24/7 for the past 14 days or even more. Cheers to everyone who participated!
  4. @GOTSpectrum take care of yourself mate. You've been working really hard since this event started and you don't have to apologize for anything. Thanks for doing all the hard work.
  5. For that config, the stock cooler is fine. If you're gonna overclock, then you might wanna look into a better air cooler but don't go for liquid coolers. The cooling performance is almost the same, yet is more expensive than air coolers. I personally have a kraken x62 from NZXT and although it looks cool and all, I now kinda regret buying it as after only two years, I am already facing problems with the pump. I've contacted NZXT so let's see how that goes. There are just more points of failure with a liquid cooler; the pump, the fans, potential leakage whereas with air cooler only point of failure is just the fan, which can easily be replaced in the rare chance it does fail.
  6. I don't think disk cloning allows you to select individual files, and even if it does, I would advice against it as some files maybe important for Windows and if you accidentally skip them, then the cloned windows might just not boot or just crash upon boot. One thing you can do is to get an external drive from a friend, and then copy all the personal files to the external drive and then delete them from the primary drive( the one that you will be using for cloning) , perform a clone to the SSD, check if the cloned windows is working properly, format the primary drive and then move all the files from the external to the primary drive
  7. I think a better way to do it would be to clone the HDD to the SSD and then just deleting the personal files from the SSD
  8. If you are talking about completely moving all the games from one drive to another, then yes it is possible. You basically have to clone your source drive to the new destination drive. You can use Macrium Reflect for that as it is free and I've used it multiple times. But if you're taking about cloning games to another drive which already has some games installed, then I don't think it's possible as Macrium will completely format the destination drive. You can this video from Jayztwocents for more information.
  9. Use Macrium Reflect. It is free to use and works really well. I've used it multiple times. And as @r2724r16 said, you can clone Windows as well from you old drive, including all the partitions and everything.
  10. I've never done a multi GPU setup so can you guys answer a few doubts that I have? I am currently using a GTX 1080 for folding but I had a 750Ti lying around and would like to use that for folding. 1) After installing the 750Ti, do I need to install drivers for it separately or the drivers for the 1080 will do? 2) How do I add the GPU to the folding client?
  11. Is there any way to avoid this error from happening? Or is it a problem on the server side and there is nothing I can do nothing about it.? Also, I checked the logs for that error and sure enough, all of the WU for which the credit estimate showed only the base credit had that error in common. Thanks a lot for a proper explanation. I've been trying to find a proper explanation for a almost a week now and finally got one.
  12. But the finished work unit got successfully uploaded. So that does mean that the client is able to communicate with the server right? I'm confused
  13. yes I do have a passkey set up. As I mentioned, only sometimes I would get the base credit instead of the estimated credit. This is the most recent one: and this is the one before that: You see what I'm trying to say?
  14. Do all Work Units have the bonus points attached to them? Or do some of them don't have any bonus points? Although I would get the estimated credit in most cases, sometimes, I would get some work units, where I would only receive the base credits, instead of the estimated credits. Anybody else experience the same thing?
  15. Dial back the clock speeds to stock speed using the program that you were using to overclock and see if the problem persists. Sometimes some games may crash due to the the monitoring software built into the program (RivaTuner Statistics in the case of MSI Afterburner, it doesn't play well with many games). So one think you can do is after applying the overclock, quit the program from either the task manager or from the system tray and then launch the game. (Remember to quit the main program, i.e. Afterburner. If you just quit RivaTuner, it will restart automatically again after a few seconds. ) This way the overclock will remain active and you can enable the app to startup when you boot the system and then again quit the program before playing any game. Doing this will ensure that the overclock settings will get applied every time you startup you computer and you won't have to manually launch the program every time.
  16. Are you allowed to buy from companies like Maingear, iBuypower, Cyberpower, etc? I mean, they are technically prebuilt systems as well. Or is it strictly OEM manufacturers like Dell, HP?
  17. Have you seen the LTT video on VR gaming? If not, you should watch it. It should help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTwgInKmEHI Alternatively, if you are planning to play Half Life: Alyx, then you can check out Valve's VR support list and then pick out the ones according to your budget and watch individual reviews about them and make a decision.
  18. Depending on the ambient temperature of your room, the temperatures seem okay. Like if your room temp is around 34 - 35 degree Celsius, a GPU temp of 48 degrees, especially considering the fact that it is a laptop, the temps seem fine. You can download Hardware Monitor and check if your GPU completely idling or not. As you can see here, my GPU is under full load (as I'm folding) but the memory and other parameters are not under load.
  19. Anyone else experiencing inconsistency with the quick return bonus points? I know for a fact that I am qualified for the QRB as I get the estimated credits most of the time, instead of the base credits and I have also met the requirements for QRB. But every now and then I just get the base credits and it happens only with the GPU. Is there any other criteria that I'm missing? P.S.- The points in the Web Control take forever to get updated. So I mainly look at the logs to see how many credits I got.
