  1. the wait is finally over. almost. Minecraft: PS3 Edition launches this week. PS4 and PS Vita versions are in the works. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/12/16/minecraft-hits-ps3-december-17th-in-north-america/ http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/12/16/minecraft-is-coming-to-ps3-this-week/
  2. and now i might reconsider a water cooler on a server.
  3. i have a friend who gets great discounts on corsair stuff. so the price for an H60 is about the same as it would be to buy a decent air cooler. not using stock cooler. pure insanity there. so yes a water cooler for a server. with the BBU, will i need a remote battery kit or can it mount directly to the card itself?
  4. Windows 7, Visual Studio, Office, few patches, some small programs.
  5. alright so my current server is an old Dell Poweredge 2900 that my high school gave me when i graduated. i know, nice school. anyway, its dying. slowly and painfully. and needs replaced badly. here are the current planned specs CASE: Corsair Carbide 330R PSU: Corsair RM450 CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1245V3 RAM: Kingston 4GB ECC(4) MOBO: AsRock C226 WS COOLER: Corsair H60 HDD: Western Digital RED 2TB(4) The issue i have is that i don't want to really use the onboard RAID. what would you guys recommend for a good sub 500 dollar RAID card that allows RAID 5, 4 drives, and has good ubuntu support? yes ubuntu support is a requirement. i am moving many of my systems over to linux based. the ECC is also required. This will have databases on it. i don't need corrupted databases because of a single bit error that occured three months prior. -rock
  6. new video card. Something like an ASUS R9 290 would be great. Or an ASUS GeForce GTX 780 with their awesome DirectCU II cooler.
  7. and you easily could do that. by default, it comes with many audio codecs and various software for things like media. xbmc runs on it too if you prefer that.
  8. if you like Ubuntu, maybe try out Linux mint. I use this instead. its based on Ubuntu. and is binary compatible with Ubuntu.
  9. I laughed when I saw this. if it handles release upgrades like Ubuntu does, then in terminal it would be 'do-release-upgrade' but I don't know if they do it that way. I started with Mint 15 myself but recently switched to Kali to try it out. I have been excited for Mint 16. Cinnamon 2.0 seems way faster than before. Linux is customizable to the extent that you can easily find other Desktop Environments and install those and use them instead. Mint is Ubuntu based so find one that supports Ubuntu and looks how you want and then run it. Virtual Box is less technical. It was just offered as a way for users who don't want to go through creating a live USB. It means rock or stone in Greek.
  10. so this was released November 15th, but I just saw it today. Linux Mint 16 Release Candidate has been released to the public. This one is based on Ubuntu 13.10. This is my personal favorite Linux distro. Two versions are available. Cinnamon and MATE. http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2477 Download it and check it out. if you don't want to run a live USB, grab virtual box and create a new Virtual Machine to try it out. http://virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
