  1. Auctions scare me And they don't have Windows, right now at least, which is really what I'd use these sites for (I didn't make this clear in the OP) That's not really a problem for me, I've got a seperate email address for signing up for stuff like this I guess it's probably not a big deal then. Both you and @Coombzy said they were alright, so I'll probably just go for it.
  2. Thing is, it's like a £60 premium for a definitely legit copy of Windows. That £75 really does dig into your budget. I might try it out then, it's not like I really care about supporting Microsoft.
  3. I'm not sure if this is the problem you described, but I've heard people having crashing problems with Watch_Dogs. Their problem was with the Uplay overlay; turning it off fixed the problem. Again, I'm not sure if this is your problem, but it might be worth a shot.
  4. CD key sites like G2A always seemed a bit dodgy to me, despite people like JackFrags promoting them. Are they really ok, or should I stay away from them and pay more for games, Windows keys, etc?
  5. I'd personally go for the 200R, the SPEC-03 looks silly IMO
  6. Hey, there's nothing wrong with a 270X. I'm probably looking at getting a 270 in September for my first real PC - either that or a 760, we'll see.
  7. The fact that it's a Mac. Before I get completely dunked on, my dad bought it for his work (he's a musician)... in 2007.
  8. I think my grandpa has an Apple II in his loft, I might have to go and play around with it The first computer I ever used was this crappy eMachines thing running XP, with 256MB of RAM and an Intel Celeron D. Oh, and a MASSIVE 30GB HDD (IDE of course). I've still got it, actually, but it's currently in bits. I'm still pretty grateful for us Mum getting that computer - not only did it get me into using computers from a pretty early age, it also got me into PC gaming. I remember playing through Dark Forces II on there, as well as Half-Life more recently. Damn, it also helped me learn about computer hardware - I've disassembled and reassembled it dozens of times (and it took me years to figure out how to take off the heatsink - it was some weird clip design). I love old hardware... I'm semi-considering buying a broken 9800 GX2 for use as a coaster
  9. I don't think the cooler will actually block a PCIe slot on that motherboard, because the motherboard has a VRM heatsink below the CPU socket - if the NH-D15 does hit anything on that side of the socket, it'll probably be the heatsink. I'm not certain though, I don't have the motherboard or the cooler - this is just from a picture on the motherboard and OC3D's video on the NH-D15.
  10. Looking at it, it does kind of make sense. I just never thought you'd be able to fit a 280 into a £550 build
  11. It doesn't look like they do, all of their current listings are laptops. Ah well, neither me nor my friend could afford it anyway
  12. This listing ended a while ago. Shame, seemed like a pretty good deal
  13. No way are those prices real... That's actually crazy. Does it involve stealing at all?
  14. I'll look into it, but will there be much of a performance boost over the cheaper one?
  15. It's pretty much an SSD at the expense of an aftermarket cooler or a better graphics card.
  16. Thanks I changed the retailer for the OS to Ebuyer (free delivery), but I must have accidentally undone the override. I'll just edit the OP
  17. Hey guys, I'm going to be building a PC for my friend after we finish our exams (few weeks left now ). I've been working on a spec list for him (he's a software guy; he thought a power supply was "just a cable" ), so if y'all could give feedback on it that would be great. I'll stick to the recommended format for this post, and I'll add the PCPartPicker list as well. Budget & location He has a budget of around £500-530 and he can't really go over-budget by much, if at all. As you have probably figured out, we're in England, so all of the prices I state will be in £GBP, not $USD (sorry Americans). Aim & peripherals He will mostly be playing grand strategy games such as Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II, and I think he'll be playing some Morrowind and Skyrim as well. He will also likely do some sort of coding (I think he mainly uses C++ and Flash), although I wouldn't think this would be very performance hungry. He'll be using a single 1080p monitor (he already has one), and I highly doubt he'll get another one any time soon. We're not including peripherals in the budget, and he doesn't play games where you really need fancy peripherals anyway, so if he needs any he'll probably just grap some cheap ones. He will need an operating system - we were planning to go with Windows 8, since it's slightly cheaper than 8.1 and it's a free upgrade anyway. PCPartPicker PCPartPicker part list: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/3Q7js CPU: AMD Athlon X4 760K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor (£57.31 @ Scan.co.uk) Motherboard: MSI A88XM-E35 Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard (£37.18 @ Amazon UK) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£62.16 @ Scan.co.uk) Storage: Crucial M500 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk (£50.15 @ Amazon UK) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£39.50 @ Amazon UK) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Video Card (£107.99 @ Ebuyer) Case: Fractal Design Define Mini MicroATX Mini Tower Case (£62.66 @ Amazon UK) Power Supply: Corsair CX 430W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (£35.65 @ Amazon UK) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (OEM) (64-bit) (£72.88 @ Ebuyer) Case Fan: Fractal Design FD-FAN-SSR2-120 40.6 CFM 120mm Fan (£6.08 @ Amazon UK) Total: £527.37 (Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.) (Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-05-24 19:33 BST+0100) I mainly tried to go with Amazon (they mostly had the cheapest bits anyway) or Ebuyer, so we wouldn't have to pay for P&P. Same reason goes for the case - we were going to use an Arc Mini R2, but the Define Mini has free delivery and isn't much more. Anyway, sorry for the long OP and thanks in advance!
  18. Two graphics cards does look pretty baller though, especially if you've got a 1-slot gap between them. The EVGA and MSI cards look awesome in SLI
  19. Well, thanks guys. I don't really want to risk flashing the BIOS, and I don't know if you can actually do that without a CPU on the board I'm looking at (it's the MSI B85M-P33 btw). I'll probably stick with the AMD CPU.
  20. Where I'm looking, the i3-4150 is ~£20 cheaper than the i3-4330, and my friend doesn't have a lot to spend on a mobo. It's either this or an Athlon II 760K and some £56 Gigabyte mobo. Cheers guys
  21. Just because it's been out for a couple hours doesn't mean YouTube has bothered processing it properly.
  22. It wasn't even in stock on Scan, so you're probably right. I don't really have much space where I want to put it, but I am prepared to use an AIO if I need to.
  23. Hi there guys, I was looking for the Cooler Master Elite 110 for use in a home build. However, I was having trouble finding it in UK outlets, and wherever I could find it it was fairly expensive, compared to the Elite 130. Ebay Elite 130: £35-40 Elite 110: £90 Scan.co.uk Elite 130: £40 Elite 110: £66 Does anyone have any idea why it's so expensive compared to its big brother, and why it's barely available? Thanks, FullNuclearBreakfast
  24. It'll just be a £15 tabletop and four legs from IKEA, shouldn't be much of a problem. And I have a ton of space in my room that wants filling It would also let me get my hands closer together without having an edge there, and it would stop my keyboard from slipping. I really don't know why I'm trying to sell it to you...
