  1. no, I do not think like you assume, at least as I understand it. I do not understand each word of the posts here, technical English was not part of my ‘training’ so I might still misunderstand things. if articles do not state the power consumption in eg idle, office, …, but do point out strongly an over average heatproblem or high over average temps (and in the case of the Taichi even a kind of concern based on its default being way too high) than there is the possibility of the reasons being as good heat-spread, badly designed, cheap materials… and/or it can be based on badly chosen general part details on the motherboard, bad software, … = as in it needing more power than the actual technology really warrants. And if 2 motherboards are in general of similar quality / have similar abilities, I’ll pick the one with less overall power consumption need in idle/office work, even if its only 1Watt. How high the actual power standard for z790 or alternatives motherboards are, I do not know, I know it more about what was normal 10y to 20y back, at least then the differences between motherboard details (including their software) was a bit more than like 2 Watt High heat points / at certain positions (no matter which part of the pc) do interest me, not for long lifetime of the parts, but for thinking about how to maybe improve/adjust airflow to support that … region of the motherboard. Let it be another case, an additional fan or eg building a custom tube (for air, not water) or… depends on temps or position.

It seems my self-trained English was not good enough to explain myself clear enough I seek ‘cool’ motherboards and I seek a motherboard, that at least at idle and at simple office work wont consume more power than absolutely needed I did find some reviews mentioning the temps of the ‘converters’, some did mention the power consumption with idle, some only mentioned the power consumptions of the whole system, some did tell eg the CPU temp but not a word about power and vise versa = my impression is, the details I seek are not always listed, so I try to guess based on little hints It will be used for both, light office work and gaming, sometimes even extremer gaming, also some video work and so on It should be able to do so with lots of reserves for the future. Like buying / building only every ~ 10years or so the next one, the PC should be bored for now, so it might not run too powerhungry in the next few years No, not an RTX 4090, but probably a 4080 with FPS cap in normal gaming (majority of the time) and without caps sometimes/seldom whilst gaming at higher levels Heat: the room is under the roof, fully south orientation - means it is already too hot there in summer, not only not nice for the user, but it adds to all the temps. So I’d prefer to pick the most efficient parts (like a titanium PSU) to produce as less ‘heating’ as possible not only for the power saving (?), but also to not heat up the area in summer too (but power is the main reason) We do not have a climate cooling machine (term?) and never will have one of those, mostly because of avoiding unnecessary power consumption If one motherboard will be able to run in light work like eg 30W and another one needs 50W, I’ll pick the 30W I hope it is clearer now, but thank you for your comments still too

Trying to find the least power hungry and also the coolest parts for a new PC, in especially in idle and for light office work, temps also important to me during gaming = the PC should act rather extreme eco friendly during the times it is not used for gaming, preferably also during light gaming the reviews for Z790 DDR5 mobos seem to either not include all of those details or its always only the same few motherboards getting reviewed. Not interested into Asus nor Gigabyte this time around, beside the Aorus Master only getting 55°C temps for the For the moment ASRock, MSI and EVGA seem to be good in general, I do not know anything about other options Originally I picked an ASRock Z790 Taichi, but according Tom‘s Hardware its too power hungry in ‚default‘ & gets rather hot too. No idea if that could be solved with changing the setting e.g. undervolting. The MSI MPG Z790 Carbon WiFi gets 76°C hot, means 21° hotter than the Aorus, I hope for a cooler board (according to a PC magazine in my country) I am hoping to get a mobo with a stable software showing the temps too, read somewhere the Steel Legend does not show all the temps I am interested in? not sure if it will be an i913900K or an i713700K, probably it will be the latter Temps: CPU and the .. using a translation software for that one: voltage converters for the vrams?
  4. ??? Your link ends on a 'MAC Raedon combination is working with OpenGL ....' post. I am not convinced that the same result mentioned there will also count for non MAC computers. I do not think the results mentioned in the linked post can count in every case e.g. not outside the MAC world and I am also not sure about the speed possibilities for the different codecs possible. I feel the post at Adobe is too generally formulated and have learned to do additional research after reading this kind of formulation there (not in a bad meaning... only in it's too general). The example list I posted shows IMHO how far asunder their 'it's possible to do with this xy' is to what users say what will really work with this or that situation => as long as do not find even one post with PP matching benchmarks or RL examples I stay rather sceptical. I do believe that PP is able to use OpenGL too, but I do think CUDA is needed for e.g. speed or even certain possibilities in complete. It needs CUDA = means not its solely using CUDA, but the difference is big enough to not consider a GPU not able to use CUDA When I write CUDA needed, I mean pick a nVidia GPU (they also include a bit OpenGL) and don't pick a Raedon (probably not counting for some very low level material where the CPU can very simply do the work too?). As I am aware how many cameras.... use h264 and how much that is NOT a low level codec and how seldom a low level codec is used nowadays.... (in cameras and DSLRs) Is it possible that I do not understand your reasoning for giving the link???? I am bit in haste, I should probably re-read this all and might find out later where the missed understanding is left...
  5. @WoodenMarker Not a rant . The only rant you will hear from me is their CC idea (as in the future consequences for their customers) What detail did I write incomprehensible? In the case you were wondering about why the list: compare it to the PP system requirements edit to add: I now read the link in complete: as far as I understand they also named solely MAC - Raedon possibility or did I understand there something wrongly?
  6. The PP users still say condolence to the ppl with Raedon. It seems to depend among other things on the file material / video codec used. The only exception I could find was an ATI within a MAC. I might use the term CUDA a bit wrongly as in = nVidia far better suited then Raedon, but I hate that formulation as it seems to me it invites to general discussions about the 2 companies. Example CPU AMD isn't suited for PP because e.g. SSE 4.x. Shall I say, AMD is 'bad' for you? I am sure some will read it as 'it's bad' => what it clearly is, but not suited for PP. It will work, but only very very slowly. I found a lot of - written by Adobe ppl - posts within the Adobe site that seem to differ quiet a lot from the experience of RL users, take some looks at their forum or at creative cow or..... If you take a look at Adobes recommandations for their programs, it is so far away from what is needed to use it at all, to use the most common possibilities or the worst - to use all possibilities, I am really astonished why they do so. Premiere Pro CS6 needs CUDA, Premire pro CC (way too expensive in the long run and other IMHO bad situtaion details) is also possible for Raedon Depending on the cameras they used at your sisters wedding it is highly possible that Premire Pro isn't even able to use more then 4GB RAM as they too often include the Quicktime Server 32 exe in the files. Try to get the original / complete fle from the cameras, it might help. I own both (Master Collection CS6 and Cyberlink Director Suite - it includes the Power Director 11) => stay with the Power Director, think maybe about upgrading to the Suite, it is 'only' semi-professional, but for normal hosehold situations usually way enough. Clear up beforehand, what kind of quality the wedding film shall get, if Blu-Ray => check which verision of what programm can give out that file version. A lot programms can work and cut FullHD, but not all can render it in that quality too (formulations!!!!) Look for at least 8GB RAM, better 16GB RAM. You don't need the 'gaming' version of RAM for that I bought this version (long searched for, payed a little bit more then half of the official price) http://pcpartpicker.com/part/crucial-memory-bls4k8g3d1609es2lx0 => there are also smaller kits to buy, very nice air flow .....
  8. @adrianandmel If you give some details like what kind of programms / software you'll use the others here might be better informed to advise for e.g. the video card / GPU CPU: like WoodenMarker already told you, pick the 4930K I'll have 2 GPUs running (1 GTX + 1 less power hungry Quadro) and some extras like firewire, 2 optical drives and lots of other thingies and still picked 'only' an 850Watt Psu = it will not reach the max Will someone move the thread or how does that work here? For me a new situation???
  9. Nowadays very seldom, in the past rather often as we live on the top of a hill in a very rural area and during each thunderstorm something got broke via too near thunderbolts. Now the energy lines are in the earth, not on a pole anymore => stabile. In winter I start to chop wood as no power means also no cooking => we have a special windowed tiled stove with an additional bake area => Pizza or a nice roast taste even better made in that way.... bt it takes time till it is hot enough. In sommer I start to take difficult / sensible products... in a special cellar (not under the house => cooler and the correct air humidity) When I'm done I usually start with reading with candles or the fire or if I have enough light, build something without powertools or go to photograph things or drive to the grocery store or... Never been bored in my life

If I would take a board with less SATA III I'd had to buy a RAID card or something like that => way more expensive (but then even a bit faster as my system will be, but more work afterwards too) I only gave the hint as my impression - after reading this - was your main reason to avoid the 4xxx CPU is the BIOS detail Best of luck and lots of fun with your new system

But CC is very expensive in the long run (starting ~ the 2nd year) and even if they promised that you can save your projects to CS6 later on (when you do not want to pay 'rent' anymore) even now that promise is already not true anymore for all cases. And without CS6... you'll never again can even open up your own projects. And if you are changing to CS6, then you'll need CUDA. You might want to read a few adobe forum threads about cloud http://forums.adobe.com/message/5423339 (intersting for e.g. Adobe can always delete a complete program version out of CC and how Encore is working and even if some ppl say the one program not really working, depending on your workflow, for others that one was important...) http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1253512 (that one hasn't to do with you directly, but might show some details about their general policy / future prices) http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/faq.html#desktop-products The following applications support the ability to export to the CS6 version of the application: Photoshop InDesign® Illustrator Flash® Professional Dreamweaver® After Effects® No Premiere Pro on that list! In addition there seem to be some problems even with the listed programs, when your files were created with cloud alone possibilities (add-ons? Term?) Saving time = no problem with your general idea. Only asking bcs of vRAM (GPU RAM), and normal RAM.... people are often not aware, how big a file can grow whilst working on it. Like when you use e.g. 6 different camera angles at once for your work, how that can not only increase the 'virtual' (what the computer has to juggle in that moment) file size a lot, it wouldn't work with a 4/4 core as you still need a core for general use and you need core work also for not only seeing the different cameras, but really do work also and so on Or that Adobe, depending on the version, is able to for 'Global Cache' => max RAM.... I do not know if you aware of this detail: a lot of programs are nowadays in general HT able, but that doesn't mean, that all possibilities of those programs are HT-able. Might be improtant for what kind of CPU you'll choose. Only a hint to dig deaper into the programs 'quirks' beforehand, search for 'problems' and so on. Be aware that e.g. system requirements stated e.g. at Adobe are only enough to start the program, but not to really to do something with it => search the program forums for suggestions, read the pro and contra of the suggested systems In the hope my mainly self-trained English is understandable
  13. Dell's service varies a bit, don't expect them the same for non-alienware products to be the same. Here in Germany they HAD a very good service for all computers, but the last ~ 2-3 years that changed a lot. In the past it was THE company for us (circle of friends,...), but now not anymore. I think the i5-4200H has HD Graphics 4600, not 4400 ???? What I do not like: - they tend to be a bit behind the latest technology = up to ~ 9 months after the release of xxx parts (probably for BIOS reasons?), even if named parts are usually earlier in use. - they do not really release details about used controllers,.... or even parts beside the CPU + GPU. No real possibilitiy to inform yourself beforehand, often enough not even with your product already in the house - their BIOS does usually (not checked for new products) not allow to get your driver updates directly at e.g. nVidia (GPU), you have to wait till Dell works those over and add the update at their website. They do not always do even (for me) realy important driver updates by e.g. nVidia (I still wait for one driver update by one manufacturer for my 3 year old XPS 15 that got released around 6-9 month after buying the notebook) - they do not inform really about the chipset in use, you have to find a list of the abilities yourself. Chipsets decide, which abilities your pc will really have, what abilities of the CPU will be given access to via the motherboard - retrofitting RAM upgrade is double the market price, they do not tell you, who is the original fabricator ( I found out accidently, they work perfectly for literally half the price they ask for) - other spares are also no fun to get without them I do not get the 'thin'... fashion. My XPS has the biggest akku available (back side higher as the front, better for typing and better access for the airflow) and it has a lot more space for moving air because the far mor thick/high case. Are you aware about dirt... in the air, how simple it is to clogg the... air pipes used in the notebook's cooling? The next notebook I'll buy will be something like most of the 'Schenker' models. Those are usually higher... and you are officially not only allowed to open them up (most of them or all, didn't check), it's contructed to support the open up work. The most of their notebooks even have LGA chips = you can exchange your CPU! Service at home is nice, but follow up costs and very good cleaning abilities of air lfow involved parts are important too....
  14. the 4xxx version has e.g. more stabil / better memory control... and other details too here in Germany the price between the 4390k and the 3930K differs only ~2 Euros, so I am surprised to read about the difference in your country Why not taking a look at the newer boards? I am also rendering... (no games) incl AVCHD files I'll buy/bought Asus X79-Deluxe with the 4390K, GTX 780, inexpensive low profile RAMs and air-cooling...., and 4 different storage 'lanes'/branches... (OS, scratch, storage,...) for Adobe MC CS6 In that combination even the PCIe 3.0 seems to finally work with the GPU (see google: problems GTX PCIe 3.0 i7-39xx)
  15. I love in-depth reviews a lot. And hardware comparisons with different tests (not only game stuff) Usually I do not even like unboxing without first hands on / in use impressions. But for some reasons I like your unboxing style / way to do the clips often enough I even ended in this forum. Liked the surprises in the clips like the cat in a box/karton in a case review and the clip with the helicopter,... when you add fun reactions / details... Some unboxing clips at YT sound so.... earnest or breathless or babbling or... yours sound(ed) more fresh. So I'll 'vote' for a lot less of them and as much in depth / test reviews... tech quickies... even some comparisons like SSD speeds or... as possible Maybe unboxing clips reserved for big releases like new generation of xxx-chips? Or fun stuff? Or something special added /seldom shown at other channels like e.g. cases with some typical equipment mounted and directed smoke to show airflow and some bad examples of how to be aware of where a weakness of a case could be like the wires in the way of airflow? Hot spots,... Some stills with different PSUs for size comparison within the case... pro and contra or... If you yourself have fun with it (again)... I'll guess 'we' might like it too.
