  2. Recently came across this issue after updating Office. After doing some research, people have suggested disabling the Scheduled Task, but that doesn't explain why this task pops up or needs to run every hour for that matter. As far as I can tell, this has been an issue since it was an Insider Build back in April. I'm surprised this wasn't fixed by the time it reached the Slow Ring. Isn't that the whole point of the Slow Ring?
  3. If you regularly patch your machine, you should be fine. You should disable SMBv1 though. SMBv1 only. On Windows 8.1 and later, you can completely uninstall SMBv1 quite easily.
  4. Only issue is it's not officially supported anymore. Any vulnerabilities in the software will remain unpatched, thus creating an additional attack vector into a system or network.
  5. Yes, it's tempting to leave your backup drive connected. I know the feeling. As was mentioned, a backup is only good if it is separated from the network completely.
  6. Easier: Type Turn Windows features on or off into Search. Uncheck the box shown below, and restart the system when prompted for the settings to take effect. All set!
  7. Have you tried Shotcut? Just found it. Looks to be a good alternative to Movie Maker.
  8. uBlock or uBlock Origin? The latter is updated at a pretty nice clip.
  9. @LinusTech @Slick I try to whitelist websites when I can, but I have absolutely no qualms about using an ad blocker. As long as malware and obnoxious tracking exists, ad blockers will exist. Native advertising is something that I'd be willing to deal with. It doesn't impact performance or put my computer at risk. If these ad companies would like to compensate me in the event they serve malicious content, I'll get rid of my ad blocker right now. I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon, however. The user has no say, or knowledge most times, in how these ads are sourced. If you turn on any ad tracker, you'll see that they come from sources that you've never heard of. An adage in security is don't click on random links; if you didn't ask for it, don't install it. Isn't the same true for advertisements? If advertisers wish to incentivize people to forego ad blockers, Google, Microsoft, Apple, and the EFF should sit down together to create a searchable, open-source, database of known good advertisers. Advertisers should be treated like Certificate Authorities. I'm looking at you, StartCom! If an advertiser serves malicious content, they would be immediately flagged (suspended until further notice) and all major browsers can use this list to block traffic from those companies. Repeat offenders would be blacklisted indefinitely.
  10. Having to do a fresh install is a bit of a pain. I usually do fresh installs. Luckily, the Upgrade Assistant worked rather well. Seems like Windows is getting better at the upgrade process. Used to be that fresh installs were always required to prevent strange oddities from happening.
  11. Looking at your specs, an in-place upgrade might be a problem if Windows is not able to grab the proper drivers for your raid. That could possibly be why you're having trouble. On my rig, I just have one drive and had no issues. You have the latest UEFI?
  12. Are you using the Windows Media Creation tool or the Windows Upgrade Assistant? On your particular machine, you could be possibly having an issue with an in-place upgrade. Have you tried installing from a USB?
  13. Yes or no, are you bothered by the fact that many of the hijackers came from Saudi Arabia? If you are, why wouldn't it make sense to include Saudi Arabia on this list since the underlying impetus of the Executive Order is ostensibly to keep Americans safe? Business Insider:
  14. The key phraseology is, "Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States,..." The class or group in question had no terrorists ties. As a matter fact, the countries prohibited are war zones that the United States is bombing. The 9/11 hijackers primarily came from Saudi Arabia, yet that region is not included in the list. Saudi Arabia is the top ally of the United States, Donald Trump's business ties notwithstanding.
  15. You have yet to address the several incidences of judicial affirmation that the 14th Amendment provides constitutional protections to non-citizens, especially under the Equal Protection clause.
  16. Even if I did agree with the immigration ban on the seven countries, it does not make much sense in terms of national security. No terrorists originated from the listed countries.
  17. There were multiple cases which addressed this issue. It is a well-established precedent. Did you read the entire article that I provided?
  18. That is incorrect. Noncitizens do have rights under the 14th Amendment via the Equal Protection clause.
  19. That is in no way related to this situation so I'm not sure why you would bring it up. Of course, phrases like that would be of concern. Harmless mosque pictures do not fall into that category.
  20. Mosque pictures are un-American? That seems like a vague, far-reaching standard. What is American? What is un-American?
  21. She was born in Morocco. That was not one of the seven countries listed in the immigration Executive Order. She specifically states that she travels to the US regularly and has never had an issue.
