  1. I found a kink in the cat5 wire. i straightening it out and the internet 'tried' to work. but i broke down and chopped it up, splicing the wires back together. The internet is working again, but i know this is temporary. theyre just twisted together and covered with tape, again, temp fix. i dont feel like buying yet another wire, since i just got this one. How long do you think i have before this fix stops my internet. again. im just so tired of this crap not working. Im downloading Hitman to see what 60 gb will do. Right now my speeds are ~12mb, before it was 26 mb. so im already concerned it wont last.
  2. The past few months ive been struggling to make sense of my internet problems. I installed a new cat5 cable to reach across from my router to my pc on the other side of the house about a year ago. Eventually i started having numerous internet issues such as degrading speeds and lag spikes in game. Eventually my connection went out all together. But only for my pc on the long ethernet cable. I replaced the cable with two shorter ones and an adapter i had laying around. That worked fine for a few days. then the same problem, unreliable speeds, then nothing. So i was on wifi for a while until i came up with a solution which was, getting yet another long cat5e cable. Again, good for a few days, then when i came home one day, it didnt work at all. The internet works fine in the rest of the house. the router is connected to the tv, ps4 and the bluray player in the living room and never has a problem. I would like to think the router is overworked since theres around 10 devices connected to it including phones and my personal server but nothing else is experiencing any kind of connection or speed issues. Im at a loss. The router works fine. im not "overworking" my internet connection. My pc is just for games and i dont stream. Yes, i tried switching ports, hoping maybe it had a bad one. Nope. Ive updated the router and it updates on its own sometimes. I have not contacted my isp since im not sure if its a problem on my end. Did i get unlucky with 3 or 4 bad cables in a row? Why is it working properly for a few days, then nothing? I did a speed test the day it installed a new cable a few days ago and i didnt even know my internet was that fast. With everything plugged in like normal, the adapter settings tell me its not connected. and Yes, i have double and triple checked ALL the connectors.
  3. Hmm. I was under the impression others had already received theirs.
  4. I purchased the limited tech linked shirt on the 20th. 2 or 3 days after it was available. I would have bought it sooner but I was having trouble with the site and their customer support is pretty f garbage. It's been almost a month and nothing. I know I purchased the shirt because I've checked my bank account numerous times and the $29 charge is still there and I haven't gotten a refund. I Never received any notification that the shirt was purchased or sent or started to be packaged or Anything. I Did receive a sLoad of promotional bs, however. But after all this trouble I will probably never use the site again. When I made the initial purchase it said I should expect the shirt around the 13th of this month. So today came and went. Nothing. I'm a fairly patient person. Im not writing this because I didn't get my precious immediately, but because when I logged into my account it said the item hasn't even been packaged yet "check back soon." Let me calm down before I continue. I ordered the shirt at least 2 days before it was no longer available. I messaged their customer support about the stupid first purchase 10% code that didn't work. And bought it anyway without the f code. No notifications what so f ever. The deliver date keeps getting f set back. I'm beginning to f wonder if they have any shirts left. So I am writing today. Is there anyone else out there who hasn't gotten their Tech Linked shirt yet or has experienced similar issues? Thanks for your time and hopefully you're a more patient person than I.
  5. I shoulda looked up your cpu sooner. if you got the i7 860, you really wouldnt see much improvement. and the pentium Gxxxx isnt hardly better than what you are currently running. 4 Cores > 2. youre only other option is going amd http://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=772&cmp[]=2925&cmp[]=1782 the 8320 is a perfect 8 core chip for $100 <eBay Link Removed>
  6. Lol i didnt even see that. the optiplex has a i5 2400, thats a 1155 socket chip. the optiplex 990 also has a regular 24 pin psu so you can switch it out when you wanna add a stronger than a gt 610 gpu
  7. My fx 8350 cost $150 and performs just as well as my friend's 3770k stock. Really if you want performance youre gonna have to save up money a little longer. but if you want an upgrade now youll have to settle for a cheap i5 like the 2500k which is a great overclockable chip i think for like 100 and heres a well kept secret. these old prebuilt machines are beats ass machines <eBay Link Removed> just add a 1050 ti (cant upgrade the psu) and call it a day. or you can get the <eBay Link Removed> in which the psu can be upgraded.
  8. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=2594&cmp[]=2598&cmp[]=896 Just a general idea of performance. And these are all the non overclockable chips. the K version is clocked higher out of the box and provides more performance if you get a board that supports OC. but even the i5 6600 (nonk) would be more than enough for todays gaming with almost any set up Definitely would wait on those bids. a good chip wont stay at a low price especially when the last day hits the 3960x is a 2011 socket. those boards can go for more than the cpu you are buying it for. like $300+
  9. i spent $50 on my msi h81 micro atx board that still allows OC https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130731
  10. my first budget build was the g3258, overclocked to 4.1 on air plays gta well on medium settings. but thats about all it can do. if you really want to save money, watch Linus' scrapyard wars videos. some really good information out there on the interwebz. just depends on what kind of budget you really have and what you are looking to do with your machine (i know you said gaming). ultimately i would say anything quad core is great especially if it can be overclocked. The new pentiums look good on paper and in those videos but youll only get a couple years out of it before looking for another upgrade
  11. Wow, 32 posts an not a single one containing useful information. Thats cool, trolls dont generally last on this site.
  12. I had this problem in windows 7, had something to do with sleep. whenever the screen went off its like it forgot what was it was doing. Reinstalling windows was the only thing i found to work. sorry If Restart works your best bet would be just hit that and wait til your cmos comes up then hit the power button to force a shutdown while out of windows
