  1. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with Mountain products, specifically the DisplayPad. If so, how do you find it? Company website: https://us-mountainggshop.com/ DisplayPad: https://us-mountainggshop.com/collections/keypads/products/displaypad I've been considering getting an Elgato Stream Deck, I've never used one before. I'm primarily considering it for productivity and enhancing games. Recently I heard of Mountain via Bitwit, The other review that I watched that went further into it was a review from KitGuruTech, With Mountain's being fairly new, they still have some growing to do to fully match the Stream Deck. From what I've seen, it does look like the DisplayPad has better build quality and a better price but you'd be waiting for updates for it to get as good or better than the Stream Deck.

  5. Summary Unity (game engine) to merge with ironSource. ironSource is a company that specializes in monetization and many consider to be malware/adware/spyware due to the extra stuff their installers include. Quotes From the announcement Unity posted: From the ironSource website: From Business Insider (2015): From Ben Edelman on the installation of Google Chrome with extras: The installer included Astromedia new-tab add-on, Framed Display, RegClean Pro and DriverSupport. It then pushed further downloads: From developers: My thoughts If the Unity game engine becomes infected with add-ons, extra programs, analytics trackers, adware, etc... no end user asked for, it will be a mess. As games have increased monetization, the game distribution platforms will likely have to start making notices standout more for games that push the user to buy in-game goods, push ads, or push the user to install other programs. I'll be keeping an eye on future Unity games that I may be interested in. 7. I'm in the process of getting parts together to get a new rig built. Due to the scarcity of some parts, it may be a bit before I can get everything together. I'm looking for case recommendations. Specifically cases that are good for air cooling and have good built in filters that are easy to clean. I have cats so I'd like to try and keep as much dust and hair out the PC as possible. I'd prefer to stick to full tower cases as I'd like ample room to work in and to future proof the case for possible larger GPUs. I do plan on using a Noctua NH-D15, 165mm tall (depending on RAM sticks, the fans may be raised slightly). I've been considering the following cases, Full Towers Fractal Design Meshify 2 XL https://www.fractal-design.com/products/cases/meshify/meshify-2-xl-dark-tempered-glass/black/ CPU cooler max height: 185mm be quiet Dark Base Pro 900 rev. 2 https://www.bequiet.com/en/case/1473 CPU cooler max height: 185mm Note: not a fan of the PSU mounting. As well as any complaints if you've worked with one of the above cases and discovered issues.

    Stopgap GPU

Thanks for the all the suggestions, went with an RX 580. Figure I'll either keep it with the old system if I keep using it as a secondary computer when I build a new one or sell it.

    Stopgap GPU

A GTX 1060 and a RX 580 are very similar in price and benchmarks (https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1060-6GB-vs-AMD-RX-580/3639vs3923). Not that I'd get the full benefit with PCI-E 2.0. Thanks for the possible option. Some aftermarket parts I've gotten over the years are hit or miss with the quality (i.e. DOA) and refunding them can be a pain.
  10. I have a GIGABYTE R9 280X WindForce with the fan bearings starting to fail (increased noise and sometimes at least one of the fans won't spin up or it may come flying off its sleeve bearing). Giving the fan a little kickstart or putting it back on will get it going again for a while. I've had the GPU since 2013, so it's out of warranty. I'll be doing a new build later this year as my current system is now 10 years old. In the meantime, I'm looking for a stopgap GPU that would offer similar or better performance. The area of Canada I'm in doesn't have a good used GPU market, so I'm looking at new with the idea that I may try and repurpose it later or leave it with my old system as it becomes a secondary system. In terms of system bottlenecks, I'm limited to PCI Express 2.0. The specs are, Case: ThermalTake Armor+ PSU: Enermax EVO 1250W Motherboard: ASUS P6TD Deluxe CPU: Intel i7 920 @ 2.67 (not overclocked and based on the age of the system I'm somewhat hesitant on doing it) With being limited to PCI Express 2.0 and not having a more current CPU, what GPU would be a good stopgap to go with? I realize I could put anything in, but for the time being, I'd like to find something that would be a reasonable fit for the rest of the system. The other option I'm considering is removing the fan shroud and strapping on some case fans. This is likely the cheapest, depending on what fans I get.
  11. Loaded up YouTube for the first time today and got the same thing.
  12. I've tried searching for answers to the below question with no avail. 1) When will the Windows 7 Update Servers (the servers that host all the OS updates for Win7) be turned off? i.e. when you install Win7 from its SP1 disc, when will Windows Update either not work or will not be able to download any updates from the server beyond the SP1 package you installed from. 2) As the latest disc/iso version of Win7 is SP1, is there a complete or near complete update package available from somewhere? i.e. instead of having to go through all the downloading of updates and reboots, is there an additional package you can download and put on a USB key to have Win7 fully or almost fully updated without having to go through the normal update procedure.
  13. Would the left-side edge bleed be enough of a concern? Album: https://imgur.com/a/q8o83fp
  14. I just purchased a new monitor, the ASUS XG27VQ, a 27" 1080p 144Hz VA panel, currently running at 120Hz on HDMI since I don't have the required DVI-D cable to run at 144Hz. It is meant to be my primary display until I do a desktop upgrade and get a 1440p display as a primary. It replaces an ASUS VH238H. The VH will become my secondary display, eventually being moved off to something else when I do a full desktop upgrade with the XG being downgraded to secondary at that point. In testing the XG out, the colours look a lot nicer and the blacks a lot deeper. However, when running through tests I've noticed a fair amount of backlight bleed. Of course, everyone will have a different tolerance, but does my panel have too much? Album: https://imgur.com/a/pw7rZDs I'm using 1920x1080p images of straight black and the primary colours in my testing. I've noticed a bleed going from top to bottom on the very left side along with other bleed areas when on black.
