  1. I just got all the parts and assembled. Got a GIGABYTE B(GIGABYTE B450M DS3H) board and upgraded to a 2TB Toshiba HDD and lowered to 4 GB Corsair value DDR4. That said I got very lucky the company I ordered from pre-flashed the bios to support the vega chip. Was kind of low balling on them doing that since it's the biggest hardware reseller in The Netherlands and it payed off! You are right though that athlon packs a punch for it's price! I got 3 out of the 6 camera's running on it and it's running like a charm (see system monitor below you can see when I switched them on if you look at the network)! Thanks everyone for the hints! And I'm sure my parent's will be happy! Greetings, Jessie
  2. Yeah I came up with this list now Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-A320M-S2H V2 (don't need overclocking I'm pretty sure, and since it's V2 it supports the Athlon out of the box) Case + powersupply: Chieftec UE-02B 1TB HDD: WD10EZEX Processor: AMD-Athlon-200GE 8GB DDR4-2400: BLS2K4G4D240FSB But still not sure if I want 4GB or 8GB of ram. Think I can do 1 stick of 4GB and later if necessary upgrade, but I have no idea if that will impact the performance of the CPU as well(since it will not be in dual channel)
  3. Is that strong enough? Only one store sells it over here in The Netherlands, hence why I missed it but I can maybe look abroad. Good suggestion thanks
  4. Thats exactly what I though as well. Thx!
  5. Well the problem is they want it is as small as possible since they want it in the closet where the router is and the meters etc. But thats not even too bad indeed. Thanks
  6. Hello, My parents have several camera's running at home and I used to run Ivideon on my own server for them. Last year I moved out house and recently I took my server with me since the upload speed at me parents home was to slow for me to use it. Now they want a small "server", aka a small pc to hang up next to the router and I've been searching around for cheap deals. Not that there are any over here (The Netherlands) so I came up with to two options: 1 - A new system, with 4GB DDR4 and a Intel Celeron J4105 (Intel ark page) in a small gigabyte barebone for a total of around 200 euros. 2 - A new/old system with 8GB DDR3 and a 4th gen processor (socket 1150), basically any one I can pick up from second hand market, like a i3 4160 I found for cheap (Intel ark page) for a combined total 300 euros. Now for a fact my parents are cheap af... So they would much rather buy the GIGABYTE barebone but I was thinking to myself... Can it handle it? I am planning to run the camera server on Ubuntu 16.04 and I need to hook up 6 1080P wireless camera's over RTSP. I will be running it on a 5400RPM 1TB disk. How well does the new Intel architecture handle decoding? All the camera's us H.264. Or am I better of buying a older system but with a stronger 4TH gen processor I3/I5. Sorry if I'm explaining it a bit chaotic since English is not my first language. Thanks in advance! Greetings, Jessie
  7. That's what I thought as well. Thanks for the help I think I will just go for the backplane just to be safe.
  8. I have an old server which I got from my work to fixup and place in the serverrack to do fun stuff with. It's a write-off for them but good enough for me It's a DL360 G6 with 1 backplane and I want to connect 6 2.5 inch discs... Which leaves me negative two spots. A new backplane with cables is around 40-50 euros on ebay so this is still a possibility but I just realised there may be a cheaper option. I've seen there are Mini-SAS to Sata cable for like 15 euros which leaves me with the power to sort out. Which... would be easy because I have a 6 pin male (PCIE) to 2 * 3 pin molex cable hanging around the house so I thought why not use that! Just put a male to male molex coupler on it an a molex to sata power and done! (FYI the only power connectors are on the motherboard and there is only 1 6 pin female left) But when I was searching for a molex to sata cable because I don't have any currently, they where all with 4 pin molex connectors but the connector on the PCIE cables are only 3 pin molex. Does this even matter? Or should I not bother with the connectors and just buy a HDD backplane and cables instead? It's a 20-30 euro difference which I would like to spend on other parts so some help would be advised. TL;DR Can you power a HDD over a 3 pin molex connector instead of a 4 pin? The cable I have with the molex connectors looks like this: Link to amazon
  9. Razer blade stealth would be awesome. My old acer is dying and that new razer would be amazing. I could really use that 4k screen with the 100% adobe RGB screen for making new designs for my websites and the new websites themselfs. Thanks allot for letting us participate!
  10. Hmm makes sence. I think that'll be a good Idea. It's than just a case of finding a server board and but the compatible stuff of that board on it? so use the old case and build a new server from it.
  11. Good morning, midday or evening depending on where you are. A while back i bought a old HP Proliant ML350 G3 which was a steal because one of the SCSI discs was broken so it costed me only 10 quid and got some extra RAM and 2 redundant power suplies with it. After that it's just been sitting here for a while, I was intended to set up as a website hosting service but I soon forgot about it / didn't have the time to do something with it. Lately I was thinking of turning it into a NAS or a gaming hosting server (simple stuff like terraria or minecraft. Just for friends and me) but I soon found out why it is so cheap. It's slow as crap! So I decided to upgrade it to the max! And I want to start with the (in my mind) most important thing to start with: The processor. Acutally processors! Since it has 2 CPU slosts. And thats what my question is about. I want to upgrade tot the baddest possible processors around for my server and money isn't a roll in this since most of them only cost like 15 quid anyway on ebay. I discovered that my server has a Intel Xeon CPU 2.80GHz singel core which isn't gonna set any records soon. The socket type is 604 mPGA. In the documentation I found online this is the most advanced processor they shiped at that time but I was wondering what can I upgrade it to? Can I upgrade it to a dual core? Or maybe a quad core? And also the server is running 32 BIT windows 2008 currently. Will it be able to run 64 bit with a better processor? Also: one more question(to which I think the answer is no) is it possible to use 2 different ones if I can't find the exact same processors on Ebay? Also I have no idea how to find a second cooling block for the second processor I want to add but I think i'll may be able to figure that out. Suggestion will be nice doe. Thanks in advance and thanks for taking the time to read my question! Help will be much appreciated! (P.S. Please don't mind spelling I'm dutch :P)
