  1. We do have a local place that does cheap off-lease machines. I will look into it, thanks!
  2. He's trying to stay inexpensive (the ones he linked me were in the 5-600 range, but say, under 750?) and I don't think he's got a screen size preference, but I'm guessing a 17" would be too big. The ones he was looking at were 15" but a 14" or maybe even 13.3" is probably fine.
  3. Dual-boot anything is probably a non-starter for this friend of mine. I will look at a refurb/used Thinkpad though. Thanks for the tip. Will also happily entertain other suggestions.
  4. Hey fellow nerds, I'm looking for a good entry level laptop for a buddy of mine. I'd know better where to point him if he wanted something decent, but his needs are basic - youtube, web-based stuff for his job, and playing Hearthstone. I have no idea what cheaper laptops are good to buy. Looking at something available in Canada, 8GB RAM, an SSD, and a CPU that is not going to suck in a couple years. He sent me a few models he was looking at, but the reviewed terribly for various reasons. They were Pentium Silver / Core i3 type stuff. I'm trying to find one that is similarly cheap but a bit better (Core i5 or Ryzen based). Any suggestions?
  5. I am also having this issue. Earlier this week it was playback errors nearly constantly. Stupid YouTube.
  6. I'm currently running an HD 6850. I upgraded this rig 4 years ago and I'm basically maxed out. Between it and the Phenom II 960T, the case gets so hot inside (Antec NSK 2400) that I had to take the lid off to prevent BSoDs during gaming. It still does it sometimes, and I'm getting fed up. I'll need to rebuild from scratch soon, and a shiny new Radeon will certainly help with that. I'm currently waffling back and forth between an RX 480 or... one of those 10-series cards from that other company (I'm not a fanboy and have no loyalty - current plan was to build with Intel). Wiinning a Radeon would make that decision a lot easier.
