  1. LTT team should make a video about enclosures and chipsets, NVMe, SATA, etc. Bought a 2.5" SATA enclosure made by Orico recently after reading a review somewhere. Unfortunately received the older model that is apparently still sold alongside the newer model, same looks, different chipsets, one does ~4xxMB/s the other one does 5xxMB/s, ASM225CM vs ASM235CM. Nobody should ever have to unknowingly get stuck with outdated chipsets and performance. Need for force manufacturers and sellers to step-up. 10Gbps, 20Gbps, 40Gbps by themselves just don't say much. Very hard to find enclosures with recent chipsets (VL716, VL717, RTL9210B, ASM235CM), most manufacturers and sellers make it difficult to find that info. Fwiw, most manufacturers have barely any idea of good product design in the first place, or so it seems, or one wouldn't get a plastic insert with an aluminium shell where the hot ssd makes essentially no direct contact with the aluminium, but that's a whole other rant. 90% of enclosures have some tool-free design now at the cost of size and cooling. Also almost all enclosures support 9.5mm when most people looking at this topic with any seriousness probably have a 7mm SATA SSD. smh.
  2. Good morning everyone! After escalating to the manager, things do not change unfortunately. " I can understand your point but please take note that the KB controller is fixed part of the motherboard which cannot be exchanged separately. Therefore the repair team needs to exchange the whole MB to fix your issue. Please let us know if you want to proceed with the repair or if we shall return your device to you. " <rant> There you have it. I so wish right now I just had bough a Dell or something where the spare parts and repairs are very straight forward. If Razer were such a premium brand, then their shit should not just cease functioning when pretty much just out of warranty really. This is absolutely horrible and I will not have it repaired, giving them even more money. I will use with external keyboard and eventually rather buy something else. Razer will not see a single dime from me anymore (apart from the testing fee I have to pay them for their incompetence). </rant>
  3. Well, this lesson wasn't cheap but hey, the more you know! I see what Razer says and just hope more people search for reviews before buying that junk.
  4. I fell stupid for ever buying a Razer Blade 14 in the first place, honestly...
  5. sigh... It's just insane that they do not have a way to repair their own boards, espc for something like a f... keyboard controller. It's a very sad business model to charge the customer for a full replacement for something that should not break by itself after not even 1.5yrs
  6. Sorry, updated my post - bought in in Singapore directly ....
  7. Hi, this is about a Razer Blade 14" FHD from 2015. By now, that device would be almost 1.5 yrs old (bought in Singapore). Early September, the backlight and entire keyboard and touchpad stopped working (apart from the power button). After a lot of back and forth, Razer Europe, offered to have me send it in. Initially, Razer (by mistake) wrote me that the display and keyboard was broken. They also quoted me for a new keyboard and new motherboard, ~$1600. After I asked for the reason (they just quoted $1600), they actually requoted after several weeks, saying they would 'only' have to replace the motherboard, ~$1400. Now, I had had a working laptop (apart from the keyboard), basically a fully functional laptop - working just fine and stable gaming system with external keyboard and mouse. And Razer is asking me to pay for their design flaws, a broken keyboard controller ?! This should never have happened, especially not after effectively 1.25 yrs of age. And they cannot repair their own motherboards but have to have a completely new one every single time? WTF After nearly two month without laptop, being asked to pay as much as for a used Razer Blade 14, I am speechless. This is completely unacceptable. # RZC-0148181-00912120 Anyone feel that pain? k
  8. Headphones *droool* Also like the keyboard, sleek and minimalistic
  9. Imagine, people would change their motherboards for new features like USB 3.0, then USB 3.1, or DDR4, and Intel would not sell any new CPUs! Of course, Intel changes the socket, at least partially, to ensure continuous sales. To think anything else is naive! Keeping the cpu socket compatible would mean that everyone could upgrade ram and motherboards only, and not worry about cpus unless they really needed more speed which most people just don't. Since mostly everyone overclocks (with the right parts), and cpus do not get that much much faster with each generation, people would easily cheap out on the cpu, making Intel very sad. Intel does it, everyone else does it, the world is evil and greedy
  10. I am just writing this for discussion purposes: http://www.flexhub.org/forum/index.php?topic=788.0 "Asus currently sells wireless routers that include AiProtection powered by Trend Micro. [...] sending the full url of visited webpages to Trend Micro [...] This means that Trend Micro can collect, monitor and store your complete browsing history and technically can even take over (unsecure) web sessions by using the token you use yourself. This is a huge privacy and security issue." So, imho, for me this is a case of "guilty, unless proven innocent". Since part of the ASUSwrt and TrendMicro code is not open, it's difficult to check (for most of us anyway). Merlin does a great job with tweaking the stock ASUSwrt. Still, there is still stuff in there from ASUS & Co. that nobody should not even consider enabling. That whole "AiProtection" section should in fact be disabled so nobody (especially unknowingly) gets lured into false security land. Maybe one day pfsense will support ARM
  11. http://www.snbforums.com/threads/asus-merlin-fw-vs-tomato-or-dd-wrt-for-rt-ac66-or-rtac68-routers.16397/ I have not decided yet which one I like best. Also, I am waiting for an ARM version of pfsense ^^ Give Merlin a try (google: asus merlin), otherwise have a look at tomato and dd-wrt. But as Merlin put it in 2014, still pretty much true, "I offer performance. DD-WRT offers features. Tomato offers a mix of both." After 'some' back and forth, I found Tomato to be the best in my case. But there is a lot more opinions on that than choices, obviously Also, have a look at the cable, try a different one, and at least cat 5e. Otherwise, need more info on setup and the like from you.
  12. I have the NZXT Kraken X61 and Corsair AX 860i. Trying to use both NZXT CAM and Corsair Link is pretty much not going to happen. 1) Use NZXT Kraken Control for the Kraken X60, which does not clash with Corsair Link. This way though, the X61's variable pump seems to run full speed all the time.... 2a) Ditch NZXT CAM. It got way too much clutter, auto-enables CAMFPS (that's almost how malware would work), high cpu utilization, constantly trying to phone home 2b) Use Corsair Link to control the (Asetek-based) NZXT Kraken, shows up as Corsair H80i GT / Corsair Hydro Series 7289 USB Device. Btw, I am not saying Corsair Link is the model citizen in terms of lightness, it had it's problems as well, but it's the better alternative, relatively. If it does not show up outright, be sure Device Manager/USB controllers shows the 'Asetek USB Device'... If still does not work, let me know
  13. Long story, short answer: avoid the NZXT Kraken X61 (X41/X31). Also, avoid NZXT in general for any longer warranty period if you are in Europe. My X60 broke, and NZXT sent me a X61 as replacement - which is great service. The problem was, that the X61 they sent me had a bad pump on arrival and had too much air inside. The pump makes noise no matter what and I can only mount it with the rad on top or the pump will run dry immediately. After one whole month of messages back and forth, NZXT's only offer is for me to FedEx the X61 from the UK to California, on my pocket of course, to then check the item, and see what they can do. That must be by far the most useless suggestion I can imagine. No cooler for weeks and spending half the coolers value of FedEx to the US. After all, it is not my fault that the product they sent me is not working as it should be expected/ Never again.
  14. From what I've read the X61 has pump-noise issue. Mostly that will be related to fan control settings in BIOS/UEFI where the pump won't receive the full 12V. Plenty of videos out there showing the Cam software and the pump speed below NZXT's specs (2400-3600 +-150 rpm). So simply disabling cpu fan control in UEFI and the pump will get 12V when needed, otherwise not and the thing runs too slow and sounds like a tractor. Some actually have real issues though with pump QC. My X61's pump makes too much noise despite 12V (had X60 before and that was much more quiet). I am currently in contact with NZXT about that. My X61's making noise whether 3Pin connected to motherboard, psu directly via molex or Scythe fan controller... But NZXT will sort it out, I'm sure. EDIT: NZXT surely is taking their time to get back to me on the pump noise issue. I was even redirected to their head of tech support, but have not actually gotten a message yet. It looks like they might be asking Asetek what is happening. I am on my Intel stock cooler for now because it's quiet... While waiting for NZXT's eventual response, I was thinking whether the new H110i would maybe have been the better choice. Pump noise really is annoying. But now apparently, Corsair's new H110i (which I believe is not Asetek-made) has some 'partial recall' due to potential leaking... Apparently, this only applies if the unit has seen negative Celsius temps during shipping; if you don't find coolant when unboxing, you're "good to go".... Quite reassuring really. So, it's noise/broken pump vs coolant leak... muah Seriously, I have no idea how these things are not being checked and tested more thoroughly before they are being sold / brought to market. Many recent NZXT and Corsair rads and pumps were based on Asetek and thus had similar issues. Apparently, Corsair went to see if someone else would be better to work with. Puddle jumping all over again. If Noctua would finally get away from that stupid brown, I might actually go back into aircooling. Custom loop is too much for my pocket / too much effort. EDIT 2: NZXT has practically denied me support, although they admitted that their X61 has issues and that they are working on it with Asetek. I sent them videos, pictures, screenshots, but after a long month of questions and requests from their side, their only solution is for me to FedEx the X61 to the US (which I pay), to have a look at it. Cost of shipping is half of the items value! Plus the whole thing would take at least a month, they didn't give me any assurance that they would send out a replacement right away either, they just mentioned testing. My videos show the issue clearly, I provided all the info they wanted and more, but they basically tell me that since I am in Europe (UK), I can go f off. Their support guy (George Perez) also never seemed to directly respond to what I was writing about at all. It was more like trying to find an excuse every time for me to try something else, or try the same thing three times.... Waste of time. So happy with their service, I will never consider NZXT's products again.
