i5 2500k Can you still game on a i5 2500K in 2018?
LemurWrangler replied to paxterr's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Currently using an i5 3570K @4.2 GHz and GTX 980ti and getting pretty solid 60fps with some momentary dips into the 40 fps range at 1080p on Far Cry 5 and Ghost Recon Wildlands on High settings, but in both cases, CAM shows that my GPU and CPU are often in the low to high 90's for % utilization. Does it get the job done? Sure, but I'm not sure how much runway this setup has left before I have to drop the quality settings on the games, or take major frame rate hits. Hoping to get at least a couple more years out of it, but that depends on the games that come out and my tolerance of my hardware's limitations. IMHO, the 980ti is still a capable gaming card, especially at 1080p, but I'd look for a more modern cpu that fits in your budget if I were shopping today for a new or "new to me" pc. -
@Clanscorpia, Congrats on your first Million! Here's to many more to come, and more quickly at that!

What about this one... Best of both worlds?

Yeah, sorry. Read your original post too quickly.

Found this, that meets your budget requirements. Don't personally own it, as mine was a bit more than your budget, but it has over 3000 reviews, and they are strongly positive. Slight regret in spending $35 on mine, considering this seems to do the job at 1/3 the cost. Edit: D'oh. Just reread that you want a standing one... I'll keep looking.

Hi @another random person, While it may be your GPU that's causing the failed WUs, we don't know if it is the GPUs fault, or if there is another system component (PSU or MB) that is contributing to the failed WUs. So, let's start the process of identifying that it is in fact the GPU that is causing the failed WUs and work from there. 1. What does the log tab look like for each failure on that particular gpu? Does it give a reason or error code for the failure? 2. Has the failing GPU successfully completed WU before, and it's just starting to fail now after days, weeks, months, years of success, or it has always had this problem? 3. Has failing gpu successfully completed WUs when it was run as the only GPU plugged into your system? 4. Has the other known good GPU successfully completed a WU in that slot on your MB with the PCIe connection from the PSU that was connected to the failing GPU? 5. Has the failing gpu successfully completed WUs when it was powered by a different PCIe lead from your PSU? 6. Has the failing gpu successfully completed WU when inserted into a different slot on your MB with the same known good PCIe lead from your PSU? Cheers!

Your Folding Rig(s)
LemurWrangler replied to Whaler_99's topic in Folding@home, Boinc, and Coin Mining
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm new to the team, but not to folding. Been folding about 3 years solid now, and my machines have grown over time. Right now I'm folding on 3 boxes: a dedicated folder, another that serves as a family room pc, and my office/gaming rig. Specs for the machines below... Dedicated folder (built with inspiration after my mom passed from an autoimune disease that affected her lungs) Case: Fractal Arc XL Mobo: MSI XPower Z87 CPU: i7 4790K (OC @4.4ghz; folding on 4 threads) GPU: 3x EVGA 780 ACX SC SSD: older 128 GB OCZ PSU: EVGA G2 1200 Watt Cooling: Custom watercooled loop for GPUs and CPU with a thick 280mm rad and thin 360mm rad, with a mixture of Fractal and Noctua fans. OS: Win10 Office/Gaming rig Case: Fractal Define S Mobo: Asus Z77 LE CPU: i5 3570K (OC at 4.3 GHz; folding on 2 threads) GPU: EVGA 980ti SC ACX SSD: 480 GB Crucial HDD: 2 TB Hitachi PSU: EVGA G2 850 Cooling: Corsair H80i OS: Win10 Family Room PC (built with parts left over from upgrades to the two above machines) Case: Thermaltake New Soprano Mobo: MSI Z97 G55 SLI CPU: Haswell Pentium G (3120?) GPU: HIS AMD 7870 and Gigabyte R9 390 G1 gaming SSD: 240 GB Crucial PSU: EVGA G2 850 Cooling: Stock Intel fan With these 3 machines folding near 24/7, I have averaged between 1.2-1.7M PPD over the last 6 months, and earned over 500M for another team, before I just switched to LTT. Cheers! LW -

Old-ish folder, New to LTT team
LemurWrangler posted a topic in Folding@home, Boinc, and Coin Mining
Greetings! Wanted to introduce myself to the team. I'm LemurWrangler and just joined the LTT folding team. I've invested a few years of folding for another team because I'm excited about the science and enjoyed the team atmosphere on their forums. But over the last year, the company that sponsored the team was sold and bought, and part of changes that the sale brought were a dissolution of the entire forum. So, while I was earning points, climbing the ranks and contributing to the research efforts, the part I enjoyed most was gone. That said, I'm excited to make a new home on the LTT team, and continue to contribute to the F@H efforts. In terms of hardware, I've got 1 dedicated folding box going 24/7, and 2 PCs that fold the vast majority of 24/7 for a total of 2 CPUs (6 threads) and 6 GPUs folding. My profile pic is from a recent backpacking trip to the North Cascade National Park in Washington state. Tough day of hiking, but well worth the view! Cheers!
